“"Excellent location"”

We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel and were very satisfied. The location, being so close to St Mark's Square, was absolutely ideal. Our bedroom, and particularly the bathroom, were quite small but well equipped and very clean. The continental breakfast, included in the price, was good and well served - we were always asked if we wanted more coffee. The Diana Comfort, in our opinion, represents excellent value for money and is ideal for a short stay when on a tight budget - bearing in mind that everything in Venice is very expensive.

Area recommendations

St Mark's Basilica & the Doge's Palace are absolute must sees. The entrance ticket to the Doge's Palace also includes entrance to the Correr Museum which displays items on the history of Venice. We would also recommend the 3 hour trip to Murano, Burano & Torcello which allows you to see the smaller, quieter parts of the lagoon and learn more about its people and their history. The commentary was excellent. The only dissappointment for us was the gondola ride, booked through expedia for my wife'e birthday, as it was not as described, lasting barely 30 minutes when it was supposed to have lasted 45, and there were 6 of us crammed in!!

Dining

Dining out is very expensive in Venice and finding reasonably priced restaurants is hard. The cheapest way of eating is to have either pizza or pasta but the so-called "Tourist Menus" represent very poor value, often having a cover and a service charge on top of the stated price. Soft drinks and bottled water vary in price considerably - we were charged €5 for a litre bottle of water in a very basic restaurant. We had a couple of reasonable evening meals but expect to pay between €60 and €80 for dinner for two with drinks (2011 prices). Our best meal, by far was at the "Trattoria della Madonna" (down a little alley off the "Riva del Vin" near the Rialto bridge), which seemed to be very popular with locals and provides excellent food and service. We were told to arrive early and when we left at 8.30 there was a huge queue outside of people hoping to get a table. Definitely try out the "bacari", small traditional Venetian wine bars where they serve local wine by the glass and "chiceti" (Venetian version of tapas) or snacks at any time - prices are very reasonable. Also try the local aperitif, called a "spritz" which is very pleasant.

“Venedig - Abseits vom Nepp und trotzdem mittendrin !”

Das Hotel iegt in einer sehr engen, aber idyllischen Gasse - etwa 200 m Luflinie vom Markusdom bzw. Dogenpalast. Das Haus macht einen sehr ordentlichen Eindruck - ist angeblich "familiengeführt" und bietet einen aufmerksamen Service- angefangen von der Rezeption bis hin zum Zimmermädchen. Einziger Wermutstropfen - der aber nicht zum Verzicht der Hotelwahl führen sollte : Das angebotene Frühstück ist "sehr kontinental" um nicht zu sagen : dürftig. Es liegt "strategisch günstig", d.h.: alle sehenswerten Ziele liegen in gut erreichbarer Nähe. Zu einer guten Verpflegung bieten sich zahlreiche Restaurants an, die jeweils um die Gunst der Besucher buhlen. Diesbezüglich eine "Warnung": Nie das erstbeste Restaurant wählen - schon gar nicht in der Nähe des Markusplatzes oder der Bootsanleger - im Stadtinneren bekommt man alles fast für die Hälfte dessen, was man auf der "Touristenmeile" bezahlen muss ! Die Pizza (Margartita) kostet dort um die 12 Euro - im Stadtinneren nur noch (sogar etwas größer !) 5,50 bis 6 Euro ! Zum Vergleich das deutsche Standardgetränk : Bier - 0,4 ltr-Glas 9,00 (!!!) Euro zu 5 bis 6 Euro (was allerdings immer noch zu teuer ist !) Aber : Es gibt ja immer noch die Freiheit der Wahl ! Fazit : Venedig sollte man sich schon eingehend ansehen - leider ist es aufgrund der vielen Brücken - für Gehbehinderte wirklich nur schwer zu erkunden ! Ein Umstand, den man so schnell (und wahrscheinlich auch aufgrund des Erhaltes der Urtümlichkeit) nicht ändern will oder kann.

“Hotel Diana in Venetië”

Het hotel is gehuisvestig in een zeer smal, bijna onvindbaar steegje. Venetië kent dus geen taxi's, je moet het zelf uitvinden als je uit de boot bent gestapt. Een goede routebeschrijving in dit speciale geval is absoluut noodzakelijk. Het gemis ervan is slordig.

Area recommendations

Niets aan te raden. Venetië is vergeven van de honderdduizenden toeristen, de rijen voor de bezienswaardigheden zijn honderden meters lang en de dienstverlening en prijzen zijn mafioos.

“Nous y retournerons volontiers”

Hôtel très bien situé tout à côté de la place Saint Marc. Excellent accueil, personnel très sympathique. Très bien climatisé (il faisait 33degrés) Le restaurant en dessous a été un peu bruyant mais seulement 1 soir.

“Hotel tres bien situé”

à 2 pas de la place San Marco,un peu vieillot au niveau des chambres,chambre 101 peu recommandable car pas de possibilité de visibilité de la fenetre donc pas de clarté,dommage!
