5 story walk up was hard to find. Breakfast was average at best. Room was large, clean, good mattress, updated bathroom, staff was friendly and helpful.

The building is an authentic old Venetian palace with all the charm and decor you would expect. The staff were friendly and very helpful, especially the attendant who carried our luggage up 5 flights of stairs since there is no elevator. The step stone on the landing says 1437 which is when it was built. The bathroom is totally modern and the ac is heavenly. You feel like you stepped back 400 years in time in the main public rooms with the furnishings and details. Ca Malipiero is located not very far from Piazza San Marco and there are lots of opportunites to explore. We found an amazing museum just around the corner. Its a bit of a journey from the vaporreto stop but well worth it and the the Ristorante Santa Maria de Formosa is to die for, right in the adjacent square.

Lovely, large room in a very old building. Great view to the Campo from large, open windows. Quiet, especially at night. Only glitch was no hot water for a few hours.

Nice Venetian feel
Very nice..centrally located. The stairs up with suitcases was hard. Noisy at night with people on the street. Canal made the lobby smelly.

The beauty of staying in a true old Venetian residence also has some annoying aspects. Great location in the heart of Venice. That said, all the transportation is a 5-8 minute walk.. Great breakfast and helpful service. Room was adequate, nice to have a large bathroom, fridge and room safe. I would stay again. Be ready for stairs! That's Venice!

This hotel was ideally located within 5 minutes walk from the major sights. Surrounded by lots of lovely shops and restaurants. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms cleaned every day.

Old and vintage hotel in Venice, with an authentic and historic feel to it. The room was smaller than we expected, however it did the trick for our quick 2 night stay while in Venice. The room was clean and the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. I did not realize our room had air conditioning until the second day, as the system is a little outdated, so the first night our room was pretty hot. Once the AC kicked in, the room and sleeping conditions were comfortable.

Lovely lady at breakfast made the hotel experience
Enjoyed our stay, the room was huge and the bathroom a decent size. The lady at breakfast is so nice she can't do enough for you. We both really liked her. The breakfast selection is simple but does the trick. The tv in the room does not have any English channels which was disappointing. The lights in our room were also not working properly. The hotel is in a good location, nice bars and restaurants nearby. Be warned it is up a few flights of stairs.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, felt like we stayed in the castle, room was amazing and the view of the square with gondola waiting outside. Amazing location 5 min walk to St. Marco sq and so many cute restaurants near by.

We arrived and were so exited to see such a lovely place with great view of the square, it's a great location for all sights, and i can only say the staff were the most helpful and kind. Infact it was my Birthday and without being told they put a bottle of bubbly in my room as a surprise on that day, I will go there again.

Great place once you find the entrance!
Arrived at night by water taxi and unfortunately must have woken a resident in a private part of the hotel which was at the front of the hotel. She was lovely and redirected us around the corner to a door. Better signage and better directions when booking would be good. Don't carry heavy luggage as there are x3 flights of stairs to reception. A lesson learned if staying in Venice! As it is a very old palace, regulations prevent a lift from being installed... Once we arrived in our junior suite room we were pleasantly surprised, typical Italian decor, very clean and roomy. Staff were very helpful and delicious breakfast was served in a quaint dining room with other guests. Overall a pleasant stay in a real piece of Venetian history.

We found the reception warm and inviting. Room very large by European standards. Breakfast outstanding. Not too keen on the side door entrance to the hotel. With no lift, the stairs were somewhat challenging. All considered this was a very satisfying three night stay.

It's a shame there is no elevator but I guess that's most of Venice. I enjoyed the complementary coffee/tea/water in the room. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioner didn't work very well but luckily we could keep the window open all night for some fresh air (it was September so it started to cool off). The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was quiet too. Finding the entrance was a bit confusing. You see the hotel and a giant red banner with the name but the door that looks like the entrance is a private entrance of some sort. You have to walk around in the alleyway and ring a hard to miss doorbell. Then climb four flights of stairs I believe before you reach reception. Also, the walk to the nearest metro station is very reasonable.

Beautiful hotel..though accommodation is 2 floors up one had a grandiose entrance hall up the carpeted stairs to a beautiful palatial reception area bedroom was a junior suite and very well appointed with chandeliers everywhere..the shower is not brilliant .. breakfast with Maria the hostess who bakes us lovely pastries and has a kind and joyful presence starts your day well..infact we were surprised as one my son's birthday was during the trip and the staff made an effort with cake and candles as well..very centrally located to have a great wander around well done Ca Malipiero!..

Once we found this hotel, we found that the hotel was on the second floor (which was listed), however, no elevator, but we did have a wonderful front desk person named Andrew who took all our bags up to the main floor, was courteous, and answered every question about where to go, etc. Room was very tiny and air conditioning was mediocre at best (although you can't expect in 102+ weather that air conditioning would be working all that great). Venice is a city of labyrinths and you must look up on each corner to see where you are. Found Ca Malipiero a good spot to get to St. Mark's and other spots once you figure your way around.

Broken AC in 95+ degree heat.
Lovely in the photos and good location, but no working air conditioning. We got a replacement standing unit and had to keep the window open for the tube, and it flooded the floor. Huge mess, stuff ruined!

Uniquely charming.
The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything and with a small canal right outside our window! The property is uniquely charming in it's character, given that it dates from 1464. The beds were OK, the bathroom was rather dated but clean and everything worked fine, including the air conditioning :) The breakfast was the best we had out of the 3 hotels we stayed in in Italy, including home made pastries, fresh fruit and bunch of other stuff. The service was outstanding, at breakfast and from the front desk guys. Everyone was friendly and helpful. All in all I'd say a good choice. We got a water taxi to and from the rail station since there was 5 of us... a little pricey but great fun and super convenient.

Amazing location and amazing staff!!
This place was absolutely amazing! It was in a great location that was in a quite piazza but still close to everything! The hotel is an old palace built in 1484 and has beautiful details that people would stop and admire. There is a lovely seating area out on the balcony that we enjoyed breakfast and just sitting and admire the charm of the city. There is also a great little seating area right next to the canal were you can watch the gondolas go by. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have was the room was extremely warm. They did bring us a portable air conditioning unit but unfortunately it didn't help. The staff did what they could to help so I was appreciative of their efforts. I would absolutely stay there again in my favorite city in Italy. I highly recommend this hotel.

It was such a nice little brake and the staff made it so. We turned up on my girlfriends birthday and once we returned after popping out to look around they had put a bottle of wine in our room wishing her a happy birthday.

The property was pretty centrally located incense we found it the first time. The people were very nice. The room itself was simple and sufficient but there were remnants of dead insects on the ceilings. There was no a/c which I assume would be unbearable in the summer months. We left the windows open overnight which provided a breeze but also left us at the mercy of mosquitoes. There is also construction which gets pretty loud in the morning. Breakfast was delicious though. The price was reasonable for the area.

Close to the popular sights of Venice
Hotel quite tired but friendly and comfortable, close to everything so location is great. Breakfast had home made pastries and pies which is a lovely touch but coffee was not great. Tip go for drinks at the kiosk in the square at the end of the day and soak up the local atmosphere cheap and lovely.

Awesome location. As far as atmosphere goes you can't beat this place. Pretty cool to be staying in a place that was built in the 1400's. The room was very clean and the staff were excellent.

Hotel is actually an old palace. Pros: Huge room, and decent size bathroom. Great window view from our room. Excellent customer service. Decent breakfast spread. Hotel desk was always staffed and all staff were incredibly nice. Cons: Could feel every spring in the ancient mattress we slept on. Heater would not turn on in the room. Hotel feels very old and outdated.

October 2015 - Weekend break to Venice
Our stay was lovely just for a weekend break. The hotel was fine and in the best place for everything, you did not have to spend any money travelling as everything was at your door step, i would recommend if anyone going to venice where we stayed was a good location for eating, shopping and sightseening.

The staff, lobby and breakfast were all wonderful and the hotel is in a great location. However, the room is very small, especially the bathroom. Also, the bathroom emits a bit of a strange smell.

Fantastic location with short walks to St Mark's Square, Rialto Bridge, and the Grand Canal. Hotel staff were very polite friendly and welcoming. Room was amazing we have absolutely no complaints at all and will definitely be staying here when we return to Venice!!

Nice one within the price range
It's next to a plaza and a smaller canal, but the owner has two properties obviously so we were assigned to a room in another building without any canal nor plaza view. Since we were only going to stay for one night, we didn't argue for changing a room. The breakfast was very good, which seems pretty standard in Italy. There is no elevator so you need to be prepared to bring the luggage with you through stairs.
