“Brilliant location, would return every visit”

Beautifully positioned 200 metres from St Marks Square, easy to get to, easy to find. A couple of minor issues with the TV were sorted out immediately. Friendly reception staff, good restaurant recommendations.

“Don't drink the breakfast coffee!”

We thoroughly enjoyed our second visit to Venice, especially staying at The Best Western Monte Carlo, which is located so close to St Mark's Square. An excellent location and a fair quality hotel with just one HUGE disappointing feature.............that's the extremely poor breakfast coffee! An experience NOT to be repeated, EVER! All other aspects of our Venetian weekend were brilliant!

Area recommendations
The whole of the city is to be recommended!
What to pack
Comfortable walking shoes.

“A very pleasant experience”

I had never stayed at a Best Western Hotel before and was very impressed with the whole experience. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was clean and ideally located for exploying Venice.. The breakfast choice was very good and there was plenty of it.

Area recommendations
Obviously you need to explore the area around St Mark's Square to see the Doges Palace etcbut you also need to go further afield and take to the back alleys. We visited the Jewish Ghetto which was very moving and we loved the Rialto Market with it's variety of fish stalls.
Getting around
Wear comfortable footwear and be prepared to walk for miles. You need to be fairly fit to negotiate all the bridges but we walked to most places rather than use the water buses as we thought they were quite expensive. We did not try out a gondola ride but did use the stand up and balance boats to cross from one side of the Grand Canal to the other. You obviousy need to to use the water buses to get to the other islands.

“Good location”

This was a little hard to find but we made. Room was nice. Breakfast is typical Italian hotel breakfast. Good over all.

“Location was great!”

St. Mark's Square was close by and the shopping was wonderful. The variety of restaurants was fantastic. The location more than made up for the small rooms in the hotel. The choice at breakfast was extensive and it started my day well.

Area recommendations
St. Mark's Square is a must with both the Basillica and Doges' Palace! Both venues bring "alive" the history of Venice.

“A great hotel find in Venice”

This hotel is a great find in Venice! The hotel staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. It is just a couple of blocks from St. Mark's square and relatively easy to find and convienent for exploring Venice. The room was comfortable (although it had a standard hard european bed), but we had no problem sleeping without any noise or interference. Really a great find, and we wouldn't have any issues with staying here again.

Area recommendations
Venice (and the lagoon islands) are a great place to explore. It is easy to get lost, but the residences are very friendly and will to provide directions. Everyone readily explores St. Mark's square and the Rialto Bridge area (which is where the crowds are), but it is just as much fun to explore the Jewish Ghetto in Cannaregio. Also, Murano and especially Burano in the Lagoon are worth exploring. I haven't met anyone who has told me about a 'bad' area of Venice for visiting, depending on your interests.

“A good hotel in an excellent location”

This hotel is very expensive. I have stayed in others in Italy with larger rooms, larger bars/lounges, and better breakfasts, but, and this is a very big but, this hotel is only 50 metres from St Marks! I was happy to pay the premium price for the truly fantastic location. The waterbuses were five minutes walk, there were numerous cafes and restaurants withing a few minutes stroll, I will definitely book again. The room was spotless and comfortably furnished, but it was rather small. The third bed was a bed-settee: at this prices it ought to have been a proper bed. The breakfast was good and plentiful but having been offered a hot and cold buffet the hot element was very disappointing with only sausage and egg four days; the fifith day bacon as also available for a few minutes, when it was gone no more was put out. I think the hotel would benefit from some redecoration. Wallpaper in our room was feeling in place and there was a hole in the carpet in the corridor. However, overall, I wass happy with the hotel and would stay again mainly because of the location which really is fantastic. For dinner I would recommend the Centrale Ristorante which is about 20 metres from the hotel. The tourist menu is available in the evening, unlike all the surrounding restaurants, and is really good value for money. Fantastic meals and a litre of wine cheaper than any other restaurant in the area.

Area recommendations
I would recomend the are in which we stayed, close to St Marks Piazza

“Room extremely small, hotel had no restaurant facility and for the price was dissapointing.”

Staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Breakfast plentiful and well organised. Room and general hotel very clean and pleasant but room very small with only a tiny window. Mini bar prices however quite reasonable. Would probably choose to stay somewhere else if returned to Venice.

Area:

San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Mark’s) is quintessential visitors’ Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
