Recreation

The Lido, a slender, 11-kilometre-long island facing the Adriatic Sea lies a 15-minute water-bus ride east of historical Venice's centre. In summer it becomes the city's playground, when beaches and water sports draw visitors and Venetians alike. Year-round, visitors rent bicycles to explore the island, take horseback rides, and play golf, tennis, and volleyball. Deep-sea fishing is available in the Adriatic Sea.

“Well-Satisfied of Suffolk”

Once again, a delightful stay at this hotel. Nothing fancy, just excellent, discreet attention, making our stay pleasant, relaxing and problem-free. Thanks again, Bizanzio - hope to see you next year!

Area recommendations
Venice is small enough, that you can walk across it in half-hour. But, all areas are worth a visit, and a return trip essential.

“Great location.”

Upon our arrival (after midnight), the staff was very pleasant and helpful. We were tired and they got us in our room very quickly. The room was beautiful. The bed was a little hard, but after a long day of walking in Venice, I hardly noticed. The air conditioning wasn't on yet (or not working) so we opened the windows for some breeze. You could hear people talking below as they walked (we were only on the second floor) which was a little weird, but beware!!! no screens so with all the water in Venice, you sleep with mosquitoes. keep the windows closed if you can. The safe in our room needed a new battery, but they let us use a safe in the office and changed the battery for us. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

When to go
Go in the Spring before it gets too hot. We were there in April and it was beautiful.
Getting around
Take comfy shoes - you'll be walking everywhere.

“Hotel Bisanzio does the biz”

After braving the Ryanair flight and bus ride to the edge of Venice, we were left in a cold, wet and dark car park with others, charged with finding our hotel for the night. After a bit of twirling around to find some barings, it was decided that water transportation would be the best way to start off, after all we are in Venice so headed for the Water Bus (72 hr ticket, 36 euros, bargin). Having reviewed the hotels website, I knew it wasn't far from St Mark's Square, a useful landmark when travelling by boat. We slowly passed around the bends, breath being taken aback by the cold night air and the wonderful views until St Marks came into view. We departed the boat, and went searching on foot, down what felt very eary narrow coridors of streets in search for a pillow and possibly some food. After a fair few minutes of searching without sucess, we were stood in front of a White Church and opted to consult a guide book for help. A couple of mintues of head scratching ensued, then low and behold, the lane leading to the hotel was right in front of us! Once inside we were greeted with a warm smile and a comfortable and well decorated room (view was disapointing but you can go out for that) and a decent breakfast to start the day on. The staff spoke good English, a good thing for my bad Italian, the location was superb (once you've found it) and rates seem competitive. Highly recommneded.

Area recommendations
Venice is yours to roam, I wouldn't want to stiffle anyones creativity or desires around this beautiful city. At first, the little corridors of streets can be a little daunting and you can get a little lost, but if you bare in mind where the rivers are going you should be able to find your way about. St Marks is generally the main hub and noticable land mark, so this represents a good place to start off from and stay, although I wouldn't say thats essential. Spending money is important, as you will be tempted by everything and the prices are a bit more of a premium although understandably so. For example a Gondula ride is 60 euros, so for us it was a case of look don't get in. A small regret of mine is that we did a lot of walking and looking as opposed to actually going into places. Of course this would have in most cases come at a price, but maybe I missed out? If you're into your football (like I am) and travel in the footall season, try and get to a Venezia home game. It may be Seria D, but it's a lovely little ground with a good set of fans and a team that play good football dispite the terrible pitch conditions - cost me 14 euros to see the game, best money I spent!
Getting around
The Water Bus is by far the cheapest mode of transport and represents good value. It beats walking everywhere, although you wouldn't go much faster than if you walked.
Dining
Dining out can be expensive so ensure you set aside enough spending money as part of your trip. 100 euros a day should see a couple by, but you could easily exceed this.

“Friendly, central hotel.”

3rd visit to this friendly, central hotel and could not be more satisfied. All the staff were pleasant and helpful all the time. Rooms always clean and well-serviced. The location is just right for St Mark's Square, the quieter parts of Venice and the, all-important, vaporetto, whilst avoiding the noisy and touristy parts! Highly recommended.

Area recommendations
Do the tourist spots on your first visit to Venice. Most important are St Mark's Square for the Venice atmosphere, the old Jewish quarter for reflection, the cemetary island for the peace, Murano island and find one of the little shop/glass workshops to buy a piece of glass, Torcello for the cats. After that just wander where your feet take you - no two walks will be the same. Travel out of high season - the acqua alta in November was fun! You can walk across the island in half-hour - it doesn't matter if you get lost, you will end up somewhere interesting, and eventually hit a vaporetto stop to find your way back.

“Would love to go back!”

Without even asking, we were upgraded to a room on the top floor with a balcony, a large bathroom and a nice sitting area. Everything was perfect, and close to Piazza San Marco.

Area recommendations
We liked being close to Piazza San Marco which is also close to the historic buildings, shopping, the lagoon, etc.

“Not Impressed”

Location is good. Except that, ordinary hotel, poor breakfast menu, outdated furniture. Not impressed at all by the superior room.

San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Mark’s) is quintessential visitors’ Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
