"Nice resort, close to kochi , allepey. expensive:)"
check in early, checkin is at 12 clk. plan your day to cover all activities. choose 5:30 cruise trip so that you can see sun set. food, massage and drinks(beer) are expensive. better to carry beers.pedal boating , evening snacks near lake, sea food platter, room amenities , evening cultural activities , swimming pool , breakfast and late night walk are good. parking place is bad. Spa services are little expensive.
It was our first time in Kerela and we cannot recommend it enough. The Backwaters was booked at the last minute once we had arrived in India and the whole experience of booking online was trouble free. The Backwaters resort is a very peaceful place. The staff are friendly and eager to ensure your needs are met. The food was wonderful though please note the resort is a 'dry' place so bring your own tipple! We had Ayurvedic treatments and the staff who run the center are great. We had very relaxing massages & learnt yoga which we are still practicing. We also went on a 3 hour boat ride in the backwaters which was made even more memorable by the boatman taking us to his home when we enquired about buying some green coconuts! This place is ideal if you want to spend a few days lounging by the pool & relaxing reading, watching the lake & its wildlife and the sunset.
The hotel is in a fantastic location right on the lake, great to watch sunrise and enjoy relaxing at the pool while watching fishermen and birds. The rooms are fine, comfortable and fairly spacious but nothing special, we had a pool view room with patio doors opening straight to the pool which was nice. The pool is great right on the edge of the lake and clean. The grounds are nice and we enjoyed using the hotel bikes to explore the surrounding area. The restaurant is good, perhaps a little on the expensive side if compared with general food prices outside of hotels in India however the quality is excellent and over 4 nights we did not get bored of the menu so no complaints, the decor could do with an update and they don't sell alcohol so bring your own. The staff are good, very friendly and helpful, overall a great stay and good value, would happily book again.
Its a amazing experience staying in Deshdhan.Their staff is excellent. They take personal care of customers.I would definitely recommend my friends to stay there and even I will prefer to stay in that hotal only whenever I will be there next time in Alleppy. Thanks n all the best to Deshdhan
A fantastic, interesting and educational experience, of a part of the world usually run down by others. So many different places of interest to visit e.g. The Hills Palace, the main residence of the Maharaja's through the ages until India became independent. To experience a houseboat trip through the backwaters to see how the locals live and survive. To be able if wanted to visit a lot of different religious buildings - e.g. The Synagogue In Fort Kochi. To see millions of people go about their daily life at all levels

Very efficient staff even when we checked in at 1am; abundant offer of buffet breakfast and choice of dishes could be ordered too; the lake facing rooms are beautiful & spacious. The complimentary boat ride on the lake was an icing on the cake. The spa facilities are excellent.

Traditional ambience, but very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and goes out of the way to accommodate your needs. You could pretty much step out of the hotel and hop into a shikara for a boat ride.
"An impressive and unique place but needs updates"
Location, layout, pool and plantings (flowers, bushes, trees) are truly impressive. All rooms arrayed around lakes. Dining room décor and location overlooking lake is upscale and pleasant. But definitely needs some fixes to live up to its “luxury” claims. Bathrooms in our “villa” badly needed updating. Gym was really disappointing: no AC and half the ceiling fans didn’t work so unpleasantly hot; equipment old and rusty; no TVs or even music. Free evening cruise was really delightful. Free ferry into Alleppey was very useful. Overall, enjoyed the stay for the uniqueness of the location, the staff tried, but it was not up to the quality of other 5-star places we stayed at in India. Hopefully, the renovations currently in progress will remedy the current shortcomings. Note that it is 2 hours plus to the airport, so make arrangements ahead of time.
