overall a great stay
the hotel was about a 8/10 but the service was excellent and the balcony view and space really made the stay. on the Monday night the restaurant was closed so we got ham, cheese, wine, bread etc., from a supermarket and ate al fresco on the balcony, which was wonderful The following evening we ate in the restaurant which was great and they catered for my gluten free requirement. We were treated to an amazing storm so we were able to sit on the balcony and watch - which was totally awesome. The parking was a bit tricky. 3 spaces downstairs and maybe 8 upstairs but a bit tight and you'll need to park up the way and walk down if you arrive much past 7 I would say.

Lovely friendly family hotel
We stopped at Hotel Colonne for the World Championship bicycle race in Varese. We had an accident in the hire car and Silvio owner / chef looked after the problem allowing us to prepare a bicycle for one of the Great Britain team riders. Silvio's food and hospitality is also World class along with a selection of fine wines.

Nice hotel in mountains
Lovely hotel near Sacro Monte di Varese, lovely view and room. Staff are friendly, the only downside was the restaurant and bar were always closed.

Beautiful location
Beautiful room opening to a private balcony overlooking the town and a lemon tree. One suggestion would be to arrive in the daylight. Navigation to this hotel is very tricky!

Super hotel, very good value for money, super staff, but did not meet the owner, who I think could have introduced himself to my wife and I. Area is stunning, with lots of walks etc. Only problem is the Wifi, or lack of it. There is supposed to be a connection!! Breakfast was adequate but limited, but at least there was English breakfast tea. We stayed in room 4, which was lovely, very comfy bed and good sitting areas. Bathroom good. Amazing views from balcony

Magnificent view of Varese, situated on top of the near by mountain in the Sacro Monte area. You would need a car to go up there of could take the bus. Has parking and it is a family run hotel, very nice people. Would stay again ...

Lovely small hotel ......
Our stay at Hotel Colonne exceeded our expectations, the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner and staff were delightful. The view was outstanding and our walk around the close by small village was lovely. Last but not least the quality of the food, sublime ..... My husband and I have been traveling around Italy for a month now and this small hotel has been the highlight so far ..... this will definitely be part of out next trip, however we will stay longer next time.

Bicycle Tour, Bolonga to Varese
Wow, what an amazing place. At the end of a 5 day bike ride, the hill up to the Motel being a bit of a challenge, to say the least, but, boy was it worth the ride! Silvio, you and you staff, especially your mother, are amazing. Our room was absolutely delightful, our afternoon on the terrace celebrating our ride, was amazing and to top off our stay, the breakfasts, I'm sure my husband eat you out of the "homemade" cheese! I could go on and on, but, thankyou. You are a star in Italy's eyes. Love from Jen and Mark Australia

Die Lage des Hotels war ideal, um zu wandern und die Kulturschätze im Ort zu besichtigen. Sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, sauber, aber etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Dusche leider mit Vorhang und sehr klein. Parkplatz prima! Wir waren mit unserer Tochter dort und bekamen leider kein Zimmer mit der schönen Aussicht ins Tal. Der Blick Richtung Berge und Bahnstation war aber auch in Ordnung und hatte irgendwie „Charme“. Wir hatten Halbpension und wurden im Restaurant am ersten Abend leider in den hinteren Teil des Lokals gesetzt - auch ohne jegliche Aussicht. Am zweiten Abend hatten wir einen schöneren Tisch am Fenster. Das Essen war qualitativ in Ordnung und lecker. Aufgrund der Beschreibung der Küche und Kochkunst hatten wir aber deutlich höhere Erwartungen. Ansonsten sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter. Sommelier jedoch leider extrem wortkarg (keine Konversation über die angebotenen Weine, keine Empfehlung), jedoch sehr freundlich. Insgesamt alles etwas „oldscool“ - aber Preis-Leistung stimmt absolut.

Die Lage des Hotels ist genial! Es befindet sich in direkter Nähe des Weltkulturerbes " Santa Maria del Monte". Die Inneneinrichtung ist stilgerecht. Leider fanden wir das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis nicht in Ordnung. Die Küche wurde sehr angepriesen (ehemaliger Sternekoch), war aber enttäuschend!! Für den Preis hatten wir weit mehr erwartet!!

Ein wunderschön gelegenes Hotel (am Berg über Varese mit Seeblick). Unser Zimmer hatte einen grossen, tollen Balkon. Das Frühstück war klein aber fein, und die Empfangsdame sehr freundlich. Im hoteleigenen Restaurant gabs ein Gästemenü für 30.- (Vorspeise, Hauptgang und Dessert). War sehr lecker. Einziges Manco war die Sauberkeit im Zimmer (sehr staubig und das Bad war stark verkalkt). Anreise mir kleinem PKW von Vorteil.

We were a group of four persons, cousins staying in two rooms. The hotel staff were very friendly and most kind. I'm afraid the meals were not so exceptional as made out to be but, on the whole, our stay could be considered quite enjoyable.

Reizvolles Hotelchen in einer schönen Umgebung ..zum erholen..aber nicht für ein langes bleiben ausgelegt. Gutes Essen und Natur geniessen.. Alle geben sich zudem Mühe.. Dennoch .. Varese, Milano sind nicht weit weg und eine tolle Ergänzung in unserem drei Tage Aufenthalt.

Bad, very bad hotel! Stay away!
Negative: The toilet of the room was wrapped with a "desinfected for you" paper ribbon, but not cleaned (dry urine everywhere) yeurk! (Later the hotel owner, who is also the cook at the restaurant, apologized for the dirty bathroom, but that's it, no drink offered, nothing. Other than this small accident the hotel room itself was ok, but the hotel description does not say that the bathroom is on a different floor and accessible through some very steep stairs. And it was so cold everywhere in this hotel (except in the restaurant), although the heating was set at the maximum. We felt cold in the hotel, in the room itself. Also, the food got us sick. Stay away from the food they serve!! The butter at the breakfast smelled like blue cheese and the evening before we ate at the restaurant downstairs, we went for a "discovery" menu, well, let's say that it was not to our taste at all. The only good dish was the one we tortelinis. They believe to serve you "nouvelle cuisine", but raw St-Jaques shell sliced with some vegetable powder (that smelled like food for fish) or the 0.5 dl lukewarm asian soup... we were not impressed and eating at the restaurant made our final bill 3x bigger as the night itself. (although we asked, we could not see the restaurant bill before the check out!! No signature, nothing! We were asked to check the restaurant bill at the check out only!) Also, do not use their electrical sockets! Our camera charger burnt in the room after 10 minutes plugged.

Romantik pur
Charmant und Erstklassiges Restaurant. Der Service war einfach Top sehr zuvor kommend und freundlich. Restaurant ist unvergessliche gut... das Essen ist bis ins detail gestaltet und einfach gut. Zimmern sind sehr sauber und sehr charmant eingerichtet. Die Lage am Hügel ist sehr ruhig mit Seeblick einfach Top. In der nähe gibt es 4 Kappelen zu betrachten die beim Wandern einfach die Ecken und Kanten dazu beitragen zu diesem Dörfchen. Es gibt viele variation von Wanderwegen die man bei super Wetter endecken und in aller ruhe geniessen kann. Jedes Zimmer ist einmalig eingerichtet und man wird wort wörtlich verwöhnt. Das morgen Essen ist genüsslich mit verschiedene arten von Heimliche Käse und Früchte zur stärkung des Tages. Hotel Colonne ein geheim Tipp für alle Romantiker die gerne Ihre zweisamkeiten in der Natur mit Italienische spezialitäten genissen möchten.

Super accueil dans un cadre magnifique
Nous avons passé un super séjour en famille avec un bébé de 16 mois. Le personnel était très serviable, et notre chambre spacieuse et confortable. Les petits-déjeuners étaient délicieux, et nous avons mangé un fois au restaurant où nous nous somme régalé. L’hôtel est idéalement situé à 10 min du centre de Varese dans un magnifique parc naturel, près de magnifiques balades et points de vue sur la région.
