Eremo Gaudio is high up in hills outside Varenna. Quite an experience to ride its lifts and enjoy its views of Lake Como.

Vue imprenable sur le lac de Côme

Posted 11-May-2015

A Hike but TOTALLY worth it!

Posted 29-Apr-2015
Pros: The hotel is definitely a hike from town which requires you to be in reasonable shape. But it is so beautiful and the food is so great it's worth it.
Cons: Have the upper part of the hotel open in late April. The view is incredible from all points but especially from up there.
Location: We loved the local Tobacco shop. You can get train tickets, coffee, chocolate, wine, stamps, postcards and so much more. It was our favorite hang out.
My husband and I loved this hotel so much that we stayed seven nights instead of six nights! We were in Room 12 which was in the lower building, had a spectacular view and a "semi-private" balcony. People would occasionally walk by our windows but it gave us an opportunity to say hello. Our view of the lake and the mountains were fabulous. It faced west so we got a great soft morning view and a gorgeous sun set behind the mountains. We loved all the folks who worked the concierge desk. Monica was particularly helpful assisting us with our Milan hotel directions and Alex was particularly helpful changing our Milan hotel reservations on Expedia. Breakfast was fine. Some fresh fruit as opposed to can fruit would be a nice change. Also, the male clerk was very spirited and both he and Monica made sure we had a healthy glass of white wine and potato chips when watching the sunset on the upper roof deck.

Impeccably clean, over the top design.

Posted 26-Apr-2015
Location: In the heart of Lovere, and in front of the lake. Boat and bus transportation across the street. Plenty of places for dinner and breakfast.
Paula, the owner was very helpful and delightful. The architecture and design of the apartments could easily be used in an article for a modern architecture magazine. It is over the top with hints of the old world showing through behind large panes of glass. Very comfortable, clean, and easy.

Amazing views in an unusual setting

Posted 24-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is a combination of ancient monastery and modern conveniences. The views are breathtaking on the terrace. It is quite a trip up to the hotel lobby. The two funiculars of glass are a beautiful ride up to rooms and a pretty little chapel. It is a walk to town up and down many steep paths, but doable. Many hikers were guests as they hiked along the mountains. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. We did have a morning where one of the funiculars failed. Fortunately for us it was 200 steps down rather than up. The staff were most accommodating to guests planning their departure and retrieved luggage.

great view, staff and unique location

Posted 14-Oct-2014
Pros: view, staff location, food, quiet evenings and good value. we'd definitely recommend and return if we were to return to area.
this is a unique location in a unique community with wonderful, friendly people. each level offers priceless views of the lake and community. very quiet, nice morning breakfast, and very reasonable dinner options. the trip to the top of the property is a must see if staying in lower portion.
