"Phoenicia - A Charming Reminder of Times Gone By"
The hotel is steeped in old fashioned charm - reminded us of the Quisisana on Capri (this is high praise!). Staff are friendly and efficient and cannot do enough for you and the décor takes you back to a time when the best hotels just oused style and individuality. The public rooms are spacious, light and airy and the facilities are what you would expect from a 5 Star hotel. The food is excellent. Our room was spotlessly clean and had all of the facilities one could wish for but the en-suite was showing its age a little. We gathered that a refurbishment is planned this winter aimed at addressing this issue.
The hotel situation is superb. Ready access to Valletta city centre (2 minutes walk) and on the edge of Floriana (worth exploring!). Valletta itself is very much on the up-and-up with a lot of investment in public spaces, the impressive fortifications and communications. The city has some excellent restaurants (Inspirations, just behind the new Parliament building is well worth a few trips as is Papannis).
There is much to see and do in Valletta and it is the communications hub of the island. The bus service (the depot is 2 minutes from the hotel) is superb and very cheap - a 7-day ticket at under 7 Euros allows you unrestricted access to all routes. We were able to get out and enjoy visiting Mdina (a must!); Mellieha (best beach on the island and good eating at Munchies!), Mosta and other nice places.
Great location, good breakfast with plenty of choices. Walk to all the sights in Valletta. Very friendly staff. We had two different rooms. One was small with so-so beds and not good air conditioning on the 5th floor. The other room was on the first floor, roomy, better beds and good AC. Depends on the room choice.
Very enjoyable first visit to Malta. Beautiful, traditional 'pensione' with great sea views. Excellent shower. Excellent location, great for sightseeing in Valletta and close to the bus terminal. Excellent cleanliness. Good breakfast. Will definitely book again.
everything about this hotel was ok. it needs uplifting. New curtains, towels, pillows, bed and table linen. Better local soaps. Worst breakfasts ever. Either do not provide or change to hot rolls or local pasticci and proper coffee.
Good evening meals and wine. Effort made with evening tables. Not a sleek boutique but has plenty of charm, good helpful staff. Would always return knowing the above because of the position.

Nestled in the harbour of Valletta, the affordable British Hotel is one of the landmark hotel in the Maltese Capital City …More
Excellent holiday, hotel was small but very friendly and quiet. Good location in Valletta about 5/6 mins walk from restaurants and shops, although first bit is uphill. Rooms clean, comfortable and well equiped alrhough glass wall between bedroom and bathroom was a bit weird!
Located on a narrow peninsula, little has changed since the Knights of St John built Valletta in the 16th century. It remains one of the world’s finest fortified cities and an architectural masterpiece, home to the majestic Grand Master’s Palace, a magnificent cathedral, national museums and various sites interpreting the city’s rich history. Don’t miss the panorama of Grand Harbour from the ramparts. Busy by day, Valletta is quiet by night.
