Came for leisure and as a first visit in Toscana, looking for relaxation. The team gave very good advice about the sightseeing around. The building has history and the owners do enjoy their place and want to make you share their appreciation and succeed in making you feel at home. Definitely a place to return and recommend!
The hotel was very nicely decorated. Room was small but perfectly adequate. We were fortunate to have a balcony with a fantastic view. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Breakfasts were fantastic.

Lovely setting, although a bit tricky to find even with GPS. Superb breakfast. Room very comfortable. Only downside there was a (locked) adjoining room to ours. There was a second door which one could close but needed to open this to use bathroom. As the people in the other room smoked one could then smell the smoke in our bedroom in the middle of the night. You could also very clearly hear people coughing talking etc. Mentioned this to the hotel staff but nothing was done.
Otherwise though, great hotel in perfect location as long as you have a car. We visited Florence, Sienna, Monteriggioni, Casa Maritimma and Vinci whilst we were there.
We had a great holiday based at "the old paper mill", whizzing around Tuscany in Florence (our hired Fiat 500 who did sterling work up and down and around the hills and winding roads). Colle is a good base if you prefer to stay in "real" Italy, and is close enough to the touristy bits (Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra etc) for days out. The hotel staff are great - friendly and helpful, and they didn't laugh at my amateur Italiano! Our room was clean and comfy with a lovely view of the old town.
The River Elsa cuts northwards from its source in the hills west of Siena before joining the Arno. Colle di Val d’Elsa is the main centre along its Sienese upper reaches, noted for its glass industry. Some 95 percent of Italy’s lead crystal hails from here, and the lower town is crammed with shops selling its wares. The upper town is set along a winding ridge, and full of historic interest. Several museums showcase Etruscan and Sienese art.
