“excellent hotel”

We arrived late at night as a group of 8 people, There is no ramp to wheel you bags up only steps, there are staff who did come to help. Reception eventually allocated our rooms but no direction to rooms , the lift to the rooms were at the other end of the hotel, not impress. The rest of the hotel was excellent. The rooms were spacious and beautifully appointed.The hotel has a Casino so we went for a drink there, the waitress didn't speak english but made us feel very welcome and with lots of fun sorted out our drinks. The next morning breakfast was served in a lovely room with a great view over the city. The location is excellent if you want to go to the old city.

Area recommendations

The old city has a great port area with many small bbq cafes. The food is excellent with bbq meat of all type on offer. The cafe are intermingled with little shops that sell clothes and souveniors but in a reasonably tasteful combination. We found this area to be one of the highlights of Montevideo.

Getting around

As there were eight of us we booked transferes from the airport to the hotel and return it is quite a distance. We organized a private tour guide to take us about

“Unimpressed”

As a member of Radisson's goldpoints plus programme and a frequent user of Radisson hotel's in Europe, I was disappointed by this hotel. It is situated in an old building and badlyneeds refurbishment. Although rooms are very large they are not particularly comfortable and service is abyssmal - expect to carry your own bags up the steps and into the lobby. We stayed 1 night at the Radisson and two at the Sheraton - the latter is 100 times better.

Area recommendations

The Punta Carretas area is a much nicer/safer area to stay - I would recommend the Sheraton at Punta Carretas.

Traveller's tip

If you do stay at the Radisson, there is an excellent Italian restaurant 2 mins walk away called 'Panini'. Be wary at night though as there are people in the main square (Plaza Indepedencia) asking for money.

“amazing, central stay”

my husband and i had two days to explore montevideo. the radisson is the best location. were able to walk from the ferry and our room was ready two hours early. the staff was friendly and helpful. and the restaurant is excellent. the only reason we didn't give it top marks is because our window blew open in the middle of the night due to high winds. overall it was one of the best stays we've had in a long time!
