“If you want to sleep at night, don't visit this hotel!”
What the other guests note about this hotel is true: clean rooms, courteous staff, great down-town location, older hotel building with character and reasonable rates, BUT you would be well advised to avoid this hotel! The staff did not notify us that there is an incredibly noisy discotec directly across the hotel and its patrons spill out onto the streets and yell, scream and laugh until 5-6 each morning! Remember, in the States, bar/discos close at 2am, but not in Uruguay. They close at 6am and don't get started until midnight. Thus, the street was quiet as we went to bed, but we were soon woken up with the tremendous noise from across the street. When we contacted the staff twice about this problem, they never offered to reduce the price nor to offer us a room at the back of the hotel where the sounds should be less intense. Bottom line: if you want more than a couple hours of sleep a night, avoid this hotel!
“Montevideo's best boutique hotel”
Excelent hotel well ubicated in the heart of Ciudad Vieja. A must while visisting Montevideo
“Run down and dirty.”
In a scary neighborhood. Had my purse snatched in the afternoon, and only a block from the hotel.
“Nice Rooms”
Very nice and clean rooms, I love the location, nice bars across from the hotel!
“Great building, great location”
The building is a beautiful old structure that has gone through a funky modern renovation. The building was built to last 500 years and the renovation was built to last about 10. That said, we loved it and the area. The bathroom was pretty disfunctional with a leaky shower and wobbley john. The rooftop breakfast area/bar is great and the food is great. All the staff were over the top nice. I am glad I am not the maintence guy but would stay there again. It was a great value as well.
“Great hotel.”
We enjoyed everything about this hotel except maybe the late night partying on the streets. We were on the 3rd floor, and lost no sleep over the partying. Reception was great--really friendly and accomodating, the room looks great with the high ceilings and lots of space. We liked the breakfast, enjoyed drinks in the rooftop bar/restaurant, and it is handy to the old town tourist area. No complaints at all.
“Hotel Plaza Fuerte”
Great, small hotel directly near main Plaza in downtown Montevideo. Nice breakfast included. Quaint old-style self-service elevator. Newly decorated rooms with balconies. Excellent price.
