This was one of the most pleasant hotels we have stayed in. The staff were uniformly courteous and knowledgeable, not only providing directions for transportation options, but also finding out about city and country tours and even providing wrapping materials for us so that we could safely pack wine to take home in luggage. The room was very big and clean, furnished in a contemporary style, and with all of the modern necessities, like outlets for charging electronic devices. We slept well (6 nights) as the beds were comfy and our room, facing the back, was absolutely silent. We asked for and were given a non-smoking room, with no trace of smoke. Breakfasts were ample and well managed, and the gratis evening wine tastings are a real plus. They included excellent boutique wines that are not available on the U.S. market, and the sommelier Mauricio was resourceful and informative -- he handled well the questions from those who knew very little, those who knew more, and those who just wanted to talk. The location of the hotel in the Pocitos neighborhood is also an advantage: the Rambla and beaches are a block away; the bus service to other parts of the city is frequent and fast; the neighborhood is filled with interesting postwar bauhaus-influenced architecture; and there are multiple restaurants, cafes, and a great ice cream place, Freddo, close by. Montevideo seemed very safe to us--no problems at all.
