"A very pleasant and interesting hotel in a good lo"
The Manoa Valley Inn has quite a history. The present owners have done a good job of restoring and maintaining
the building and gardens. They have also added authentic furnishings which keep the historic background of the
mansion and gardens intact. Each room is carefully decorated and is unique. It is the real deal! As a guest you
feel like you have traveled back in history. The gardens are very lush and add to the beauty of the mansion. A special treat for guests is the hidden swimming pool surrounded by the flowering trees and bushes.
The delicious breakfast/brunch served on the veranda is another high point to the visit. The protected outdoor
surroundings add to the feeling of enjoying your own mansion on a leisurely morning. I'm talking about a full
on breakfast with something for everyone. The kitchen staff will also cook "to order" items including special pancakes! I wish I lived closer to the Manoa Valley Inn!
"I rented a condo and was not in the Monarch hotel"
I booked the condo because it was a 50% discount for one night. Fortunately I contacted the owner because of late check-in. He explained how to check-in the condo complex via security. Otherwise I would have been there at the hotel desk where they didn't know anything about my booking....
For check-out I had to put the key card back where I got it from... written that way in the instructions! Shortly after checking out the owner wrote an e-mail that he could not find the key and want to charge me a 100$ if I'm not returning it. Because I was still in Honolulu I could go back to the complex. The security did not now about any problems and they said that the next customer checked-in without problems...
In my opinion it is better to go to a hotel, hostel or B&B!
My wife and I stayed here for a week while vacationing in Oahu. We got a partial ocean view room with kitchenette on the 38th floor facing Waikiki & Diamond Head. The room was the perfect size with plenty of space for everything we had. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean, as well as the window. As mentioned in other responses, the TV was an older tube-style but it worked just fine. The only drawback was that our particular a/c unit had a condensor which was iced/frosted over which I discovered on our first day. I shut it off and let it defrost while were out & about and it worked fine for the rest of the stay. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk to the beach.
I had a rental car for the entire week we were there and paid for the 7 day parking pass when we checked in. The whole process was painless. The $18 daily parking pass is comparable to other big cities. You have to remember that this isn't a Motel 6 in the middle of Nebraska...space is a premium on the island. You can find cheap rental cars though. My rental car was $170 for the week. Factor in the $126 I paid for the parking garage and my total rental car cost was about $300 (without fuel). That's not bad for a week and gave us the freedom to do what we wanted, when we wanted! No cattle-esque tour busses for us!
The room was very quiet. I'm not even sure if we had adjacent neighbors. We were there in late October which is the off-season though. We were happy with this hotel!
This is my 3rd time this year that my friend and I have stayed here and they haven't let us down!! The staff is excellent and you definitely feel the aloha spirit!! It's clean, a fun environment, and a short walk to the beach. We've recommended all of our friends to stay here on their trips. Thank you everyone!
"Great size apartments with good views of the city"
We stayed here for 3 nights in December 2014 - we had a kitchen apartment of some 48 square metres and it was awesome. The hotel is clean and the staff were very friendly and courteous. It is a 7 minute walk from the beachfront of Waikiki and less than 4 minutes to the trolleys and buses. Views of the city and canal were great. The apartment was spacious and an absolute pleasure to spend time in. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Waikiki.
A few blocks from the beach and brand name stores for high rollers. There's a pool and sundeck and a fitness facility and restaurant/coffee shop that are affordable. The rooms are confortable, attractive and chic. a high definition tv and high speed free wifi. The staff are warm and friendly and very honest. I forgot my camera charger and battery on the wall in my room and I was told that it's on the mail.
