Alaya is very comfortable and quiet. If you are travelling with children the resort is not really suitable as the areas in the resort are designed for quiet times. My 8 year old daughter was very bored as pool was for relaxing not jumping, screaming having fun.
We just had an incredible stay at Villa Sarna! The staff was super friendly and the grounds were so lovely - like a little oasis. There were only a handful of rooms, so the place felt very private. The staff above all were very helpful - nothing was too much for them. The shuttle service was very convenient and they gladly accommodated our own personal timings and locations. Breakfast was delicious - I highly recommend the banana pancakes. Our room was very nice and comfortable, and the tv had so many channels that I could luckily fall asleep to watching programming from back home! Since we had just come off a very long flight, the poolside massage was very welcome. It was great to get away from it all, and an exceptional value! Hope to return soon!
"Beautiful hotel, walking distance to central Ubud"
This hotel is the oldest in Bali and it has kept its historical charm. It is brautifully situated on a hillside by a river, surrounded by forests, flowers and statues. You truly can relax just here for the week, having access to two outdoor pools and a spa that faces the river. The room was very clean and comfortable. We had our own private deck to sit outdoors, which was lovely. I would highly recommend this place!!!

Situated in the jungle and accessible only by foot or bike, this is a beautiful more regional property about a 20 min walk from central Ubud. This suited us just fine and was a perfect balance to busy Seminyak.
If only we could stay here longer than the 3 nights we did! Location is a little hard to find at first, but once you've adjusted it's pretty close to town through a 10-min shortcut behind Monkey Forest. The reception was superb - friendliest people on the island who can speak English, ever-ready to help with anything, be it bike rental (recommended but provided if you fulfill all the legal requirements of riding one), taxis, places to eat, etc. The room was huge, comfy and really inviting with a nice balcony for some chilling. It's peaceful and serene, kinda makes you question why you've booked this place for only a couple of nights. Sometimes at night, you get some friendly bugs keeping you company (the only annoying ones are the mozzies) but watch out for those geckos though, someone has been feeding them laxatives because they poop like nobody's business.

Too far from center of town and commute every time with expensive taxi fee.
there is no shuttle bus either so you basically stuck in Villa.
I thought our villa has a private pool included but it does not.
only one air conditioner in huge villa.
not much variety in food menu.
shower and bath is separated outside of villa and so hard to use,
Designers furnitures everywhere but not working at all.
rooms are smelly as old guys pants ( may be designed as it is then I hate all)
construction is going on next door.
not worth for money (A$250+ per night) even penny - I would rather pay extra to stay Four Seasons.
Loved Bali Spirit. Everyone that worked there was wonderful and created a memorable experience! Pool was gorgeous, rooms were great, bungalow was AMAZING, grounds were lovely, good location out of central Ubud but very walkable to town center for most people.
I extended my stay 2 nights and got moved to a phenomenal bungalow (at the same rate as my smaller room!) with an outdoor shower. LOVE!

We came to Ubud for a different experience after being in Kuta. It was just what we were after, it was quiet, peaceful, tranquil, sat by the pool with only one other guest, hardly anyone around (must have all been in town shopping). Staff were perfect, room very clean and cozy, amazing views, decent breakfast, great service. I'd come again!
