“Ideal for a city break”

Great position for a break inTurin, easily reached by a direct bus from the airport (a few hundred yards from a bus stop). Staff spoke very good english and were helpful. We did have the cheapest room although it was clean we found it a little tired, but that goes for a lot of city hotels around the world. The breakfast was good also. I would certainly recommend for a city break to Turin.

Area recommendations

All of the city is worth a visit and December is a lovely time of year to go, a good excuse to drink the wonderful hot chocolate. We were lucky with clear blue skies, so a walk along the river was lovely.

Shopping

All the high end fashion stores are here with the italian chains, some lovely individual small shops selling unusual things to bring home. The markets have also have some stylish bargains, just to stoll around the food stalls and the fish market is something to behold a way of shopping that is long gone from England.

Dining

We found a lot of places to eat restricted your evening meals to pizza, although lovely a larger variety would have been nice. The ice cream parlours open to 23.00 which is lovely to stroll as the Italians do after your meal with your desert, festive panettone is divine. Hot chocolate is a must, thick rich but not sweet, combinations include mixed with coffee and at Christmast time zabaglioni with cream.

“Good value through Expedia deal”

Room small but well organised with plenty of luggage space. Quiet (but rooms on main road may not be). Breakfast excellent. Staff helpful.Location good for trams, metro & buses. 20 to 30 minutes walk from the centre. Some reasonable restaurants in the area. Couldn't complain about cleanliness, although a particular bit of fluff remained in the corner for the duration of our stay. The only problem area was the lifts. There are two, very small lifts serving a seven storey hotel. At peak times, such as breakfast, which is served in the basement, waiting times for the lifts could be long. When we were leaving, I carried two heavy suitcases down three flights of stairs.

Area recommendations

The entire central city is fine and the appearance is identical.

Other

The Torino-Piemont Card is good value for culture-vultures. Tourist office staff are friendly & helpful but most of the literature is bad as are ALL guidebooks that we saw. There is a Torino maganzine, published annually, I believe, that is the only way to find all or most of the info you need on where to go, what to see, opening times etc

“Great breakfast!”

“Satisfactory”

The location of the hotel is very good and about 15min walking from the Center (Cathedral and Royal house). It is near the Train Station and both the underground and Pus stations. However, The room is quite small with a smell (?Old carbet). The bathroom is very small and a little bit uncofrtable. There was no Internet connection on the first day till the 2nd day night and repaired after multiple claims. The breakfast is good and satisfactory. Some of the receptionists are young and have no experience in solving problems and claims. It should be better to be a 4 Stars Hotel, However, It is recommended for a short stay.

Getting around

Visit the Cathetedral and the shroud, Walk and See the very nice Sqares at the center of the city, There are many nice Cafe and Bars, and many Niceand cheep Restorants. Visit the Mole and the nice churches. Go to Lingotto Mole.

“Great location at good price”

Hotel Diplomatic was conveniently located, just a walking distance to Turin center. Also - despite old-looking hallway & elevators, our room was freshly renovated and had a great design. My mother and I were very satisfied with place, price, room & service

“Not Impressed”

My first trip to Italy and I hope the experience of this hotel was a 'one off''. After checking where the staff must not be allowed to smile I went to my room. I could not work out the the TV and the bathroom had one of its lights out and the phone did not work. I went to reception and told them about the bathroom light and was immediately told 'we are aware of the problem and will have it fixed. He did not even ask what room number I was and I then told them about the TV and he said he would send someone up to fix it too but would need my room number. Amazing he was going to fix the bathroom problem without it. I went out later to return and find they had fixed my TV issue but not the bathroom light. I stayed 3 nights and the light was never replaced. The 'bar' is in sight of reception but never attended. Even though the reception see you go there you have to go to them and ask for someone to come and serve you. Sometimes they forget and you have to remind them. In the end if I wanted to be served I just went down stairs to the 'meal room' and asked the girl to come up and serve. The food was very average both at breakfast and the evening 'restuarant'. I think the management needs to install some customer service and enthusiam in their staff as everytime I went past reception there was never a smile or kind greeting. Even checking out was a task, pay your bill and move on. I got my change and he turned his back to continue something else. Not even a thanks, or goodbye.

“La Turbie with an excellent view of the Mediterraean!!”

Overall we had a great time, the bed was comfortable. The parking is limited in that small town. The restaurants were within great walking distance with a little market, too. I do recommend this hotel.

“Very nice, Great Location”

Hotel is nice with a professional staff. Friendly and helpful with the exception of the breakfast helpers who seem that they really don't want to be there. They're not rude just not really pleasant. The hotel is very well maintained and spotlessly clean. Housekeeping was great. The clothes I left on a chair as I hurriedly left were all folded. The water in the minibar is free and restocked every day. The room was small with a tiny but adequate shower. Wifi was good. Room was very quiet. Breakfast was good, good variety of cereals, breads and pastries with hard boiled eggs, meats and cheeses. I ate dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was good. However being on business, I was alone and the 1 1/2 hour pace may be great if dining with friends, not good by yourself. I ate several times at a little semi-fast food place called Mitco1 near Porto Suza, Great lasagna and pizza. Lasagna and a nice salad for $6. Sidewalk tables and inside seating. Very friendly and they speak English Buy the Turin-Piedmonte pass. It allows unlimited bus, tram and train travel as well as museums. It includes the Airport service DoraFly which is a train-bus into the city. The yrain station is attached to the A/P and it takes you to Station Dora, from there it is a 10 min bus ride to Porto Suza which is 1/2 block from the hotel. Don't rent a car, the buses and trolleys will get you around much faster and you don't have to worry about parking. Great city to walk, always felt safe.

“Great Location”
