I have stayed at this hotel under its previous name of Riverbank a number of times and a few times as The Barley.
It seems to be a property in limbo. The bar which is the whole ground floor of the hotel has lost its way and you will eat your breakfast in an empty bar.
The breakfast is, however, very good and the skeleton staff are very friendly and obliging.
There are no shaver sockets in the bathrooms so remember to take an adapter for tooth brush or shaver. The promised one never materialised. remember to ask for the WiFI code early when you check it in as it is not listed anywhere.
The rooms are quite contemporary in style, Roman blinds over the windows and the decor is sound, executive style. However, look beyond the Roman blinds and the windows need repainting and cleaning up.
The main problem is that this place lacks professional management and has dropped to the feel of a B&B.
This was typified by when I asked if I could leave my suitcase for the day somewhere after check out I was assured that as I was the only guest I could have the room all day as it wasn't needed the next day. As I finished my breakfast I was then told a guest that stays two days a week only wanted the room I was in (even though the rest of the rooms were empty) and I had to vacate my room early. However, as soon as I went back to my room (9:15 AM) the cleaners arrived asking if I was leaving, followed by a chase up by the same gentleman.
At £80 per night,it is poor value & not recommended.
Superb location next to the river - no passing traffic only riverside walkers.
Although an old vicarage everything inside is new and up to date to highest standard. Fittings, furniture, shower etc all the latest designs. Breakfast brilliant. Garden immaculate.
No restaurants or pubs in the tiny village but they can be found in Malpas the next village along the river by walking or driving around via Truro.
Fine pub grub at the Heron Inn there.
Excellent, room had everything you could possibly need and more. The furnishings were of a good quality and the cleanliness was exceptional. Linda and Dave gave you hospitality that was second to none and nothing was too much trouble in fact you felt as if you were staying in their home as guests instead of paying ones. A welcome addition was a wonderful guests lounge that was extremely comfortable after a days exploring which allowed you to relax either watching television or reading a book. The surroundings were peaceful as well as being extremely beautiful and a welcome addition was a swimming pool. I have no hesitation in recommending Chycara House and in fact cannot wait to visit again.
We stayed at this hotel for one night. We picked this hotel for it's location (near Truro) and the price. We thought it might be a bit of a dive, so didn't expect much, but we were wrong! The décor was lovely, good quality sheets and towels. The room was a good size, the bed was amazingly comfortable (I actually slept through the night!) and the breakfast was awesome. I have a restrictive diet and they were really accommodating around this. Staff were friendly and relaxed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel :)
We stayed at The Whitehouse Inn thinking it was near Truro City Centre, when in fact it is half an hour's
drive away. However the lodge where the rooms are located was lovely and we could not hear the band playing in the main pub. The room was clean and spacious and breakfast was good. Staff could have been more helpful and were not aware that we had pre-booked online. Luckily for us there was a room available. On the whole a good stay for the price.
