“First visit to Tromso and Midnight Sun”

The Thon hotel is conveniently situated at Gronnegata 50,one street back from Storgata the main shopping area. The cheaper Thon Polar, is immediately opposite at Gronnegata 48. Tromso city centre is compact and most of the tourist attractions are within walking distance. It is the newest hotel in Tromso and so everything is smart and clean. I had read the rooms were on the small side and this proved to be the case. This was not a problem as I was on my own. Clothes were stored in open shelving rather drawers or wardrobes. The bed was narrower than I am used to. Despite these observations I believe the Thon is a very good base for a seven night/short stay. The buffet breakfast is excellent value for money. It includes all options including, fruit juices, cereals,hot food, cheeses, meat, fish and fruit. Fresh baked bread is a bonus. Whilst there are no tea and coffee facilities in rooms they are freely available from a dispenser in the foyer. Norwegian drink lots of coffee and most shops cater for the demand. The reception staff were extremely attentive e.g. I asked about the weather forecast and was given a printed copy for the next forty eight hours. Housekeeping was very efficient. Based on my experience I would look to use the Thon Group should I go back to Norway.

New hotel so you would be pleased with the condition of all furniture and equipment. Breakfast is fantastic with a wide spread of good quality selections. Room and shower area is small. Key flaw and irritation is the big gap between where bath room tiles and shower screen doors were supposed to meet. Hence water splash out of shower area into the main toilet area no matter how you bath.
