"Worth the money "
The motel could use some updating. However, with updates comes higher prices. You can smell a slight hint of mold. But keep in mind, you're on the water and it's decades old. If you're looking for a more modern, clean, bleach smelling, high priced motel, this is NOT IT! The people are friendly, it's convenient, it has a pool, and the price is great!

"Beach front without the frills"
The hotel is a 1950s style beach front efficiency motel--clean, modest, and dated. We enjoyed our courtyard 1-bedroom apartment with 3 girls under age 7 and two adults. The pool was crowded usually and in the middle of the poolside rooms. The hotel is ON the beach, but it is still a 5 minute walk to the shoreline. The waves were a bit rougher than I expected from a Gulf side beach. Restaurants were close but we brought food for the 5 of us and were able to eat all of our meals out of the kitchen (full frig, microwave, 4 place settings of mismatched stoneware, 2 pots w/lids, colander, baking sheet, toaster, can opener, 2 ice trays). The table only has 4 chairs, but we were able to use the footrest bench from the couch. Living room furniture is vinyl, a good option for wet, sandy beach bottoms. It's not an upscale hotel with lots of amenities, but it met our family's needs in price, comfort, and access to the beach.

"Back to the Future"
I first visited Treasure Island with my parents and other siblings in 1962. My uncle became the City Manager holding that position until the early 70s. During those years, we drove from central Ohio to Florida a good number of times, once even before I75 was completed! So, I've always been a fan of TI and the area. I vividly remember all the hotels, motels, surf shops, shell shops, even a Howard Johnson's along Gulf Blvd. As a teenager, I worked as a dishwasher at the Thunderbird Hotel and also for the beach operator providing surf boards, cabanas and other stuff. It's always been a surprise to me that the Thunderbird and Bilmar have remained along with several of the other smaller "Mom&Pop" abodes like the Satellite Motel. I suspect that the Bungalows Motel may have also been there but I don't remember. However, knowing that I'd be in the area for several days, I decided to give a "smaller" place a try. I could have gone to the T-Bird or Bilmar or Residence Inn but thought that the Bungalows might be more interesting. I wasn't disappointed. I wished a bit of the retro feel from the 60s/70s when the smaller places really thrived. I also didn't want to end-up in hotel with a room above a dining room or kitchen, or a club with live bands, or near the throbbing chillers. Something quieter and just as or more convenient.
