This hotel is a beautiful, relaxing, quiet oasis that is in the charming, lively Trastevere neighborhood, with many restaurants and things to do close by. It's a few minutes walk to the river where you can strolls, eat at riverside cafés and listen to live music. It's also within walking distance to all major attractions. The rooms are small but efficient and extremely clean, with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The staff is kind and friendly, you can check out free bicycles for exploring, and the breakfast and happy hour are plentiful, tasty and beautifully presented. The courtyard and sun terrace are wonderful places to relax after a busy day of touring. We loved it here.
Upon arrival the front desk staff (wish I knew the woman's name-but she only works in the morning) was going to allow another guest to check in before me, so that irritated me. The guest had to point out that i was standing the.
The room was spacious, had a balcony, and large tub/shower. I had no idea that you had to use European outlets to charge your phone (FYI first time Americans). The other front desk staff was very helpful and told me where I could purchase one. They also do not have irons (another surprise). You also have to check your key every time you leave the hotel. This didn't bother me but took some getting used to. The breakfast was pretty good with a really decent selection (pastries, cheese, Turkey deli meat, eggs, bacon, and cappuccino ). The hotel is pretty close to the bus or tram. Overall, it was a good hotel with a couple of glitches.
Everything is close except the Vatican which is pretty much far from everything. Really quaint streets in Trastavere (behind the building) and some great restaurants too! We loved the area and it was really fun walking along the river :) cant say anything bad about the place! Don't let the big door scare you or the unimpressive entryway on the first floor when you arrive! Just head straight up to the third floor and look for the "welcome" matt! the rooms are very clean and worked out great! Wife has celiac and we used a great app called find me gluten free. the food was excellent and there are a lot of choices if you are gluten intolerant.
Modern, clean and comfortable. Very convenient stay whilst attending a conference at the University of Archeology just across the river. Beware evening noise from bar below that goes on until 1am even at weekdays.

Nice hotel but awkward for transportation, 170 bus was the local bus but was very infrequent, we waited over 1 hour on our arrival at the bus stop. Room was okay but the glass bathroom door was noisy opening & closing. Toilet flushing noise was quite annoying from other rooms as it was very loud & woke us up. Hotel was well kept & the rooftop pool area was good despite the Jacuzzi not working. Staff were great & Restaurant was good.
The overall experience in Rome was great, most of it due to the welcoming and fresh atmosphere at Residenza Santa Maria. Extremely pleasant and polite staff. The whole place as a great atmosphere and it feels like to be in a small villa.

Across the River Tiber, Trastevere is a well-established 'boho chic' quarter, full of local character. The patchwork of tiny, cobbled streets houses many bars, good restaurants and buzzing nightlife spots. There is also a treasure trove of medieval churches. In its own piazza, the beautiful Santa Maria in Trastevere has shimmering golden mosaics and was probably Rome's first Christian basilica, founded in 222 AD.
