“convenience, good value”
The hotel is clean but the rooms are definitely small (you know that about Tokyo hotels ahead of time so no surprise) but efficiently designed. Might be tight quarters for a couple spending more than 2 or 3 days. Lobby attractive, staff friendly and very helpful, computers available. Nice, quiet street just off the busy intersecion. The location is very convenient to the Kasei line from the airport but you need to get the brief walking directions ahead of time - the intersection and pedestrian bridges are confusing. Easy walking distance to Asakusa and river, market and restaurants nearby and very easy access to subway lines.
“A place to stay for a night.”
The hotel is within a couple of blocks from the Ueno train station and was an easy walk for our family of four. We arrived late at night and we were easily directed from the train station to the hotel. The rooms are small and we could only sleep two to a room. Our two rooms each had a double bed and there was not much room for anything else. The beds were hard, but that seemed to be typical of all the hotels in Japan and China where we stayed. As non-smokers, we noticed there is a cigarette smoke smell throughout the hotel. The staff was friendly and spoke a little English. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were small as well. We just needed a place to sleep for one night and that fit our need well. If we were staying longer, I would want something with more space.
“Good location, good value”
good value for money. tiny rooms but nice and clean. great location for restaurants and excellent transport options. Quiet rooms thus busy road and train track being nearby. "business" style hotel rooms - big enough to fit a bed, desk and barely walk in between. possibly the smallest room we stayed in during our time in Japan but good value. The LAN connection was quite quick. Would stay again.
“Touganeya Ueno AMAZING!”
This hotel is in a fantastic location. Ueno is lovely and it is so easy to get around Tokyo from Ueno. The station is about 2 minutes walk from the hotel. The staff don't speak a lot of English but still went out of their way to help us and were always very polite and friendly. The room was really clean and comfortable and very reasonably priced. It was quite small but it had everything you would need for 2 weeks in Japan. All in all, it was a fantastic hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.
“Decent home base for tourists”
Small, quiet, clean with reasonable service. Decent English at check-in, typical very small double, computers with internet in lobby. Very close to train station, which is also close to lots of shops and restaurants. Quiet, slept well, affordable price. I would call it a "functional" hotel, since it fill our needs as tourists, with few frills. Note that it's just a few stops to Tokyo station, so easy access to bullet trains, other routes.
“Great stay experience”
The people in the hotel are really friendly and helpful.
“Small friendly good value hotel very close to Ueno station”
Located 2-minute walk from Ueno station (JR lines, Keisei lines and subway) makes it ideally located for someone on the move. Rooms very small but adequate, clean, not too noisy at night considering the location. Friendly helpful staff. Has its own restaurant which we did not try. Many small restaurants around around, lively area and noisy as Japanese know how to. Beautiful Ueno Park (Blooming sakura early May) a 3-minute walk from the hotel where the silence strikes us after the animation of Ueno. Good value for money.
“small room, but convenient location”
Room was smaller than expected - but I guess that is common in Tokyo. Location was great - very close to Keisei (direct train to Narita), JR and subway stations.
“Great for no frills proximity to Ueno station”
Cheap hotel. Rooms small and cramped but it was cheap so about inline with my expectations. Free wired internet access in room was nice. I think there was coin laundry available on the top floor though I didn't use it. Vending machines always useful though you could just step outside and literally around the corner was a convenience store. Proximity to Ueno station was amazing. Pedestrian bridge over the street means you don't have to wait for stoplights to get to the station. A bit unsettling having "held" luggage simply placed around the lobby but I suppose with hotel staff at the desk constantly (and being Japan) it was relatively safe.
“Excellent location; No complaints.”
The hotel was very easy to find and given its close proximity to Ueno station the hotel was very convenient. Westerners often complain about the size of hotel rooms but that's Tokyo...I doubt one goes to Tokyo to sleep in a hotel! Staff was friendly, room was clean, bathroom was adequate. A good efficient business hotel. Definitely would return.
