“Good value, but not the best location”
This provides good value in Tokyo, but the location isn't the best - quite far from the nicer parts of Ueno. There is the Shin-Okachimachi metro station nearby though, walking to Ueno with luggage is a bit too far. Breakfast is free, but not great (salad, pastries/toast, some meat/veg item that changes daily, soup, eggs).

Great time

All was good
“Good Business Hotel”
A short taxi ride from the Ueno Station, I found that the Hotel Villa Fontaine Ueno was easy to get, and less than a 10 minute walk from three subway lines. The hotel provides a map of the neighborhood stores and restaurants, which makes finding your way around very easy. The rooms were clean, and although small, they are pretty standard for a business hotel in Japan. The buffet breakfast is nothing to write home about, but it is convenient. Overall, an above average business hotel that I will return to when I have the chance.
“4-star hotel in Tokyo”
This hotel's service is good. Breakfast is good. Room is good. Location is good - near subway station. BUT, there is no good restaurant near by, that's why I rated it 4 to the convenience of the hotel location. If they could have a good restaurant inside the hotel or some good ones near by, I'll rate it 5. If they could provide shuttle service to/from subway stations nearby, that would be great. I didn't prepare well, so I didn't find the subway stations near the hotel in the walking distance. It's difficult for strangers to find out the subway stations near by the hotel in Tokyo.
“Would Stay there again and confidently recommend it to anyone.”
Loved it .... will go again next year for the exhibition that I was supposed to go to this year... I messed up my bookings. Language no problems as the Japanese try their English speaking skills where ever possible. Very helpful people at the hotel and would stay there again without hesitation. Salad for breakfast was a bit hard to take. But they have boiled eggs and toast so what more do you want.
“The hotel is ok...location is very close to subway....”
The bathroom is clean although it's small. The rooms are very small but most rooms in japan are like that. This hotel location is great....quiet neighbourhood although the market is about a 10 minute walk
“Great Tokyo hotel, but...”
Hotel is as good as you can get in Tokyo, however some explanations are needed... - The hotel is accessible from the high-speed rail from the Airport, but it is a 30-minute walk (please be advised that you WILL walk A LOT in Tokyo). - The room is big compared to others, but real estate is a LUXURY in Tokyo and is still VERY SMALL when compared to North American rooms. The bed is VERY firm, but that is the norm in Tokyo. The room is very clean. - The breakfast is decent, but gets boring very fast. The staff was once again very polite and helpful. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and we would definitely recommend it. Please remember however that you will not get a North-American-sized room.
“Functional hotel handy for Ueno station”
The hotel is relatively functional, with a atrium down the middle which was reminiscent of a prison. The room we booked was fairly small, but this was expected for this for this price in Tokyo. We almost didn't book this hotel because of criticism in other reviews on Expedia regarding the hardness of the beds - in fact, we found the bed to be pretty much standard for Japan (i.e. an unsprung futon matress, being fairly hard, but comfortable enough). The breakfast was a little haphazard, and largely comprises boiled egg, juices and bread. The laundry facilities were handy, but the detergent provided by the hotel extremely ineffective. I would recommend you buy your own. It is a short walk from the hotel to Ueno station, and the hotel is also handy for Asakusa. However, there are many other hotels closer to both stations and in a similar price range. The reception staff were helpful and generally spoke good English, although when I discovered there was only one towel in my room it took a while to get over the idea of requiring a second. I would suggest this hotel is a good central base for exploring Tokyo.
“Returned back to the hotel on my second visit to Tokyo. Will go back again for the same price.”
Excellent location, helpfull english speaking staff, walking distance to Oedo, Asakusa, Hibiya line metro stations. If you are willing to walk 20 minutes JR station too within walking distance. 800 yen by taxi to main Ueno station. Good beffet breakfast, clean room.
