“Looking a little tired, but best of those available”
Carpets and general decor looked like they were ready for a refurb, so a little sad, but not off-putting. Also clearly had a 'smoker's' room, but no alternatives available - clearly something going on in Tokyo that week (Tokyo Motor Show maybe). Appallingly slow Internet connection, and system insisted on performing an anti-virus check before allowing access -who knows what that may do. Then the Business Centre (only means of printing out a boarding pass) was painfully slow and intermittent - took nearly 2 hours at chargeable rate to print 2 passes. However, staff absolutely charming, incredibly courteous and helpful. Location is great for access to the business district and good connections to other areas.
“Very Nice”
Dai-Ichi Tokyo is a very nice hotel. I would say it deserves a 4 star rank. The area is fine--not far from the Ginza and close to Shinbashi Station. Not the Ritz or Four Seasons, but a fine place. No complaints, but not overwhelming, either
“Happy Shipbroker loves Japan!”
I am a big fan of the Dai-Ichi Hotel, Shimbashi, and have stayed there many times, however, I am becoming increasingly frustrated that a major hotel such as The Dai-Ichi Hotel Shimbashi, is still not offering Wi-Fi internet connection in their guest rooms. In this day-and-age, in many Western countries, free Wi-Fi in hotels, including the guest bedrooms, is standard. Come on Dai-Ichi Hotel! It is time to catch up in this area...!
“Dai-ichi is ichiban!”
We booked this hotel due to the special offer - would normally go for something more contemporary in design (the bathroom was a little dated) - but other than that we could not fault the comfort of our room, which was very spacious by Japanese standards. (We were also upgraded from a queen to king size room at check-in without asking). It was immaculately clean and the hotel generally had a very luxurious feel. Service was excellent. There was no breakfast included in the offer which was a shame but otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend the hotel. In addition it is very near Shimbashi station (even is connected by its own walkway during daytime) and within easy reach to Ginza district. Lots of Yakitori places nearby.
“Wonderfully relaxing spot.”
We had a fabulous week at the Dai-Ichi and could not speak highly enough of the staff and their customer service skills. The only negative comment I could make is that all tourist brochures were in cupboards - if we asked for them we received them - but if didn't make it easy making choices. Great spot!
“Best location in Ginza”
Superb, we were satisfied with the service and location. Just don't eat at the hotel, you have verity of restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance.
“Can't Wait to go back”
I simply don't have the words to describe how nice this hotel is. Staff was awesome, very friendly. Also they did speak english too. Location is great within walking distance of Ginza shopping district and if you wanted to go anywhere else the subway is about a 5 minute walk away. Whenever I come back to Tokyo I know where I will be staying.
“Great hotel experience”
All the plaudits above are right on. If you don't have loads of luggage (why should you), consider taking the JR Rapid Narita Airport from Narita Airport T2 straight to Shimbashi Station (1450 yen, 92 min, lots of local color). Exit 5 from JR to Ginza, go straight ahead across the street, walk past the Metro entrance on the other side of the street, take the next left under the tracks, and the Dai-Ichi is on the next corner to the right (tall tan tower with flower). Consider a one or two day Metro pass at the airport for central Tokyo. As an aside, just underwent one great earthquake for 3 minutes while writing this post.
“Truly "Number One"”
This was simply the best hotel we've ever stayed in - hands down. Every part of the experience was exceptional. The Hotel was GORGEOUS, our suite was exceptional with beautiful appointments, large beds huge bathroom with a two-person tub with a view (yes, a VIEW). In fact the bathroom was about the size of my daughter's apartment in kyoto. The (included) breakfast room was similarly appointed and stocked with a beautiful buffet.. Staff were great, and the hotel was accesible by tunnel to the local transit. I would definitely stay there again.

Ginza, Tokyo, Japan: High on opulence and popularity, Ginza was one of the city's first districts to implement Western-style brick buildings and gas lamps. Set in the heart of the city, it is the place for those who don't mind crowds, and serious spenders. But it takes very little to see Asia's largest fish market, a traditional kabuki play, or the latest gadgets at the Sony building.
