“Walter Au Lac at Lugano”

the location , breakfast is really good .... the only thing bother me is the room floor is noisy when your romate walked out to the pathroom at night
“location, location, location”
last minute, high stress business trip into the unknown. found hotel on expedia. quaint, older, clean hotel right on the boulevard that borders the lake. right in the pedestian only shopping/restaurant district. car is not needed. low-key, helpful, courteous english speaking staff who know everything about their city. nice breakfast buffet included. couldn't be happier with my experience.
“Delightful Balcony”
We had the best table in town as we relaxed on our balcony while gazing at the sparkling lake and looking down upon all of the street and cafe action below. It was 'people-watching' at its best from a lofty perch! The hotel staff was helpful, friendly and fluent in English. The elegant, sun-drenched breakfast room takes up the second floor (their "first floor") and every window looks toward the lake. The fruit salad with fresh apricots, kiwi, berries, pineapple etc. was heavenly. Getting to the hotel is a short walk from the base of the funicular. Just head for the lake and you'll find it. This location in Lugano can't be beat!
“So-so; glad we only stayed one night”
Given the price compared to the other 4 hotels we stayed in during our time in the Italian lakes region, the Hotel Walter should have blown the competition out of the park. Instead, it was just fine. The location was ideal and the room size was relatively large. The "king" bed was actually two entirely separate bed frames with separate twin sheets, and the beds pulled several inches apart from each other while we slept in them. We also would have preferred that the hotel had attached parking rather than sending us to another hotel's garage at a preposterous rate for one night.
“Unbeatable View”
Although the hotel decor and furnishings are rather out of date, you cannot beat the view and the location. The hotel is located in the center city, close to the funicular to the train station, and right on the lake. Our room had a fantastic view of the lake and the surrounding area. There is a street out front that is noisy, but the windows shut out the noise. Some rooms have balconies. The room furnishings and décor are out of date, but the bathroom appeared recently updated and the A/C worked well and was easy to use. Breakfast average. I would stay there again.
