“Holiday Inn like always very good”

Very nice Hotel, not far from city centre. Very nice and helpful staff. Room clean and specious, could easily accommodate family with one kid. Very interesting american style hotel. Breakfast nice but still little bit expensive...

“Big hotel on outskirts of Leiden”

This is a big conference/business hotel on the outskirts of Leiden. We had a family room with two double beds and a cot. It was comfortable with a nice bathroom and flat screen tv that had all the UK freeview channels. The Internet is expensive as is the breakfast and dinner. We bought some cereal and milk (there is a fridge in the room) and ate out for dinner. There is a MacDonald's a short walk away where you can access the Internet for free. The number 43 bus will get you to the station , or get a bus around the corner for less. If you are more than two people it may be cheaper to get a taxi. There is a small swimming pool and a small gym (cross trainer, bike, running machine and multi gym). The kids jungle is a bit grubby and full of kids of all ages. At the weekend the restaurant is busy. On the whole if you don't mind being out of town, don't eat there, and don't pay for the Internet it is a good choice.

Area recommendations
Old town Leiden is great.
Dining
Jilly's restaurant was very good - modern European fine dining at a reasonable price. There is also a Jilly's brasserie opposite the restaurant - but we didn't try it.

“Good hotel with some minor (and annoying) flaws”

The room was very nice and comfortable. The hotel features a swimming pool, sauna and gym. It is located close to the center of Leiden. Overall, our stay there could have be a really nice experience if it was not for a few little flaws and slip-ups. These included the sauna with the heater switched off although it was supposed to be open for another two hours (after a phone call to the reception, the heater came back on), no hotel staff being in the swimming pool area, resulting in several kids running in and out of the sauna all the time to the annoyance of those who wanted to use it, no towels being available in the swimming pool area, and most notably my son being told off for taking a small tub of jam at 11:10 am because breakfast was supposed to be over by 11.

“Holiday Inn Leiden Pleasant Stay”

The Holiday Inn Leiden was clean and well maintained. The pool was great and the facility quiet and family friendly even though it had conferences happening on the weekends. There was a shuttle to the train station M-F, but our family walked the distance many days. It was a 20 minute walk. When checking-in our room was a smoking room and we had requested a non-smoking room. They changed our room without any difficulty. There is very good security in the hotel. Internet service is not free in the hotel which was a negative for us. There is a Shell Station within a block which we frequented for snacks. Also, unlike Holiday Inns in the United States the hotel did not have an iron or ironing board. There was a refrigerator, pot to heat water and complimentary tea and coffe and hot chocolate in the room. Overall, I would reccomend this hotel.

“Brilliant Hotel - would stay here again”

One of the most comfortable hotels we've stayed in in Europe. Had a very enjoyable stay over the Orange Day weekend. Leiden is v. convenient for the bulbfields and easy access to Amsterdam and Schipol airport by train. Only downside is that the town centre needs taxi trips from this hotel. Quiet location of the hotel makes up for this however.

“Dirty bathroom”

Standard room beds are twin-size for two people not comfortable at all. Bathroom is dirty especially around the sink you can see black circle. Actually this hotel was a MOTEL before and was turned to Holiday inn with few changes, reception and the lobby. Room is good for one person and overnight stay only.. in spite there is a one area for the kids to play.

“Family hotel on the edge of town”

The hotel is located quite far from the central station, but close to the motorway, so I would recommend it for those who use a car or who are punctual enough to be at the station on time for the bus (infrequent in the evening) or the hotel shuttle. It is nicely decorated, so I am sure the children will love it. Our room was spaciuos, but the hotel is designed so that all the windows face either the internal corridor or the external walkway. If you cannot sleep without an open window - this hotel is not for you. The breakfast price is exorbitant and the only other choice is McDonalds nearby, but one can have a cup of tea or coffee (complimentary) in the room and breakfast elsewhere. All in all a nice place to stay really worth the price.

Getting there
If you do not take a car or taxi, try to catch a free hotel shuttle of check the bus timetable in advance - #43, which stops right at the hotel, runs once in an hour in the evening.

“Comfy hotel but a bit far from Leiden”

The hotel gives you everything you might expect from an American chain: clean modern rooms, large tv, convenient bathroom, big desk for work, room service etc. The hotel is located a bit far from the old city and from the center of town - about 20 minutes walk. They do offer a shuttle service during rush hour, but the bus they recommend is extremely inconvenient. Taxi is 10 euros to the center. Internet service is very good, but can be expensive - 15 euros per day or 60 euros per week. You cannot get wireless in your room and you cannot connect a mobile device such as an iphone or an ipad. If you have an HDMI output and a cable you can connect your computer to the large TV. The breakfast is very expensive - 20 euros. The hotel bar has decent food, but the service is pretty bad. I had to wait 10 minutes just to get the menu. You have a kettle and small fridge in the room, in case you want to improvise with breakfast. On the whole, you get a pretty good deal with this hotel, if you are willing to forgo the location. The Tulip and the Golden Tulip are both much more conveniently located, but they are significantly more expensive and have no gym (the word gym should be used rather liberally - it is a size of a bedroom with an old stationary bike, elliptical, and treadmill).
