“Fire drill anyone?”

Not the hotels fault that the fire bell went off at 2am, and we all trouped out to the middle courtyard to wait in the cold air, but not being told at all by the hotel staff what was going on, or when the bell went off, that we could go back into our rooms, and what had caused the alarm in the first place. Then an hour later it went off again briefly. The next morning they slipped a note under the door saying sorry for the inconvienience, but by then it didn't really matter. Really hot rooms with no AC, totally geared to business travel and not at all a vacation spot. It was clean and tidy but there was no vibe at all that made me want to go back. I'll stay at Days Inn again down the road next time, much cheaper and they work to want you come back.

Area recommendations

Closer to Oxford, especially if you don't have a car.

I am sorry that you were disturbed by the fire alarm and have discussed your comments with the team that there was a lack of information given so that we can ensure that our guests are better informed should this happen again. We are set in the Oxfordshire countryside, only minutes from the M40 and near to historic Thame, Oxford and Blenheim Palace with some great local walks and wildlife, so if you do come back again we would be pleased to give you more information regarding the local attractions and places to visit.

“Not sure worth 4 stars”

Front desk helpful, room OK with nice courtyard view, but a bit small for a four star. Isolated in the country side with no nearby restaurants. Convenient to the M4. Had this been listed as a 3 star, I'd have no complaints. Price was reasonable (even if it had been 3 stars).

“Good location, average hotel”

A business type hotel, conveniently located near the M40 and A40. Looking a bit tired inside. Avoid if you are on a leisure trip.

“Not near tourist sights, but staff was wonderful”

Through no fault of this hotel, my husband and I were not happy with our accomodations. This hotel is not near tourist attractions of Oxford. When we realized our mistake, the hotel management was very understanding and allowed us to check out early without penalty. This hotel is a nice place for anyone seeking a getaway from the hectic city life. It is more of a spa/resort than just a hotel.

Area recommendations

If you want to see historic Oxford and the colleges, stay in the center of the city. The hotels there are basic, but we found it well worth it to be close to the sights.

“Weekend Break”

Pleasant and helpful staff at Reception helped with information of the local area, especially Thame. Used the Spa for a massage one wet afternoon, which was very good and relaxing. Enjoyed our time in Oxford. Only comment on a raw note was the breakfast my wife had a raw sausage at breakfast one morning cooked on the outside and raw on the inner, not a nice taste.

You will need a car to get to Oxford or places nearby, primarily a Conference and Wedding centre

“What a spa treat!”

Swimming pool is smaller than I expected and there was no jacuzzi however do try the massages at the spa - high recommended. The service was good although it took awhile to clear room-service,

“Good and Bad”

First the good,the room was excellent, as were all of the staff. the breakfast provided was superb........dinner was good but maybe a little expensive for what it was. Now the bad, the hotel caters for large functions and as such the one bar area can be totaly taken over with large numbers of noisy party goers, making it difficult to get served or seated at times. The hotel might benifit from a smaller lounge/bar where non revellers could relax in peace. In addition be prepaired for rather noisy geusts retuning to their rooms at all hours of the night, the doors do not close quietly!......................So if you want a great hotel and a party this is the place to go............... If you want a great hotel where you can relax after a long trip, and a good nights sleep, ask if there are any functions on at the time of your stay before you book.

Liverpool One is a superb place to shop, and Liverpool City has the best mix of night life anywhere I have been and I must say some of the best people of all ages I have ever met.

“A bit out of the way, but good value for a decent hotel”

Hotel is not near the city of Oxford - if you want to be near the university, this is not your best choice. However, if you don't mind the short journey, the hotel has friendly staff and offers good value. The restaurant had a very nice dinner and good breakfast.

“Great hotel we will go back again”

A clean well looked after hotel with a well equiped spa,our room was spacious with good views of the surounding country side.Considering its close proximity to the M40 the place was very quiet and allowed us to have a peaceful break. The breakfast was well worth the money.

Traveller's tip

If you are visiting Oxford, use the park and ride at Thornhill as the buses are every 15 minutes and its two pounds return for a adult with secure parking for the car.
