Modern resort in historic Cotswolds

Posted 10-Sep-2014
Pros: Staff, service, accommodations
Cons: Reservations in dining room not taken during day of interest, but in evening room half empty; staff not hired?! Food average, overpriced.
Location: Tetbury -- classic Cotswold., touristy, good shops and local hotel dining (The Close) Wotton -Under-Edge -- interesting old, non-touristy town.
Good formal dining room (must reserve early), bar OK (limited menu), comfortable room, located close to towns and beautiful countryside, modern interior decor and traditional Cotswold stone building.

Peaceful countryside location

Posted 27-Jul-2014
Pros: Having separate building with bedrooms, away from the bustle of the hotel. Wonderful breakfasts. Bar food was also good. Lovely grounds.
Cons: With the hot temperatures a fridge in the room would have been lovely. We asked for a fan and this was supplied.
Location: We came to walk in the Cotswolds and we were able to access three planned walks which took us along canals, beautiful villages and farms.
Lovely hotel set in countryside location. We were housed in buildings behind the main hotel. Large room and bathroom. Had own front door. Very quiet at night. Wonderful breakfast served by friendly staff.

Great Cotswolds hotel

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Pros: Great location. Without exception, extremely helpful and pleasant staff. Good restaurant but also a choice of more informal bar meals within the hotel
Cons: Nothing, really.
Location: Only a mile from the National Arboretum and close to Tetbury but plenty of other interesting places to visit within close proximity.
Only booked this hotel at the last minute for a one night stop-over but liked it so much we stayed an extra night and would definitely return. Given a complimentary room upgrade on arrival which was carried over for the extra night without quibble. All of the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel is set in very pleasant, landscaped grounds with ample secure car parking. What's not to enjoy about this hotel?

Attractive country house hotel

Posted 11-Jun-2014 on Hotels.com
Our stay was very pleasant. The service, food (we ate dinner in the bar area) and comfort were all above average and we were very satisfied with our choice of hotel. The only negative is that the hotel is on a busy road and the rooms are not soundproofed against internal or external noise. My husband had a disturbed night's sleep because he could hear a neighbouring rooms TV and the road traffic. The breakfast was excellent and the location is perfect for visiting High Grove house. Expensive.

Lovely place!

Posted 20-May-2014
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Not too keen on the four poster canopied bed in a fairly small room but that's a very minor (and personal) niggle.
Location: The Westonbirt Arboretum was stunning - could have spent the day there. Nearby Tetbury is a lovely Cotswold town.
Just one night but wish it had been more. Perfect weather so people enjoying the beautiful gardens - so much space and plenty of places to sit. The breakfast was outstanding too.

Such a lovely time

Posted 28-Apr-2014 on Hotels.com
The Hare And Hounds is just splendid. The welcome was warm, the hotel gorgeous, the rooms in various annexes around. Our room was large, but still cosy, very nicely decorated and with a superb bathroom. We had dinner in the restaurant, and it was exceptional. The service was stunning, and the food was absolutely incredible. We were so thrilled by how delicious everything was, and the perfect execution of the whole meal. It felt like a Michelin star restaurant, with service to match. I was very pleased to see two huge improvements over the norm - free wifi, and something other than sachets of instant coffee in the room - but sadly both did fall short of the rest of the experience. The wifi was very weak, and very, very frequently forced us to sign back in for no apparent reason. And while there was a cafetiere in the room, there was only a peculiar "coffee bag" to go with it, that obviously didn't work in the cafetiere, and produced some remarkably revolting coffee. So close! (I'll never understand why UK hotels can't copy US hotels and just put a drip coffee machine in the room.) But when those are your only gripes, what a recommendation it remains. A lovely place, in a lovely area, with excellent staff, and one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at.

Expensive but pleasant

Posted 25-Apr-2014
Pros: The staff and the surroundings.
Cons: The bathroom, the pillows and the restaurant portions.
Location: Nice countryside and pretty town and market in Tetbury.
On the negative side was the price tag.You get such a lot more for your money abroad and during my most recent travels abroad I found the bathrooms are top notch and spotless. This bathroom was nice but it had a bath with no hose attachment so you couldn't wash you hair in the bath. They had a separate shower which was a very small enclosed cubicle with a very large 8-10 inch shower head which is not great for water pressure when you're washing your hair and you had to turn it off to soap yourself as you were unable to get out of the way of the water. Just badly thought out really. There was no pillow menu and I would have preferred the choice of a foam pillow. There were a few stains on the bedroom carpet. Portions in the restaurant were shockingly minute, luckily we weren't that hungry as we'd eaten quite a bit in the 2 preceding days, and we're not the sort of people that eat very large quantities (I only weigh 8 stone and my partner just over 11.) The rstaurant was also very cold on the Saturday night. On the plus side generally the surroundings were very nice, the gardens lovely and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.

Staff outstandingly helpful !

Posted 08-Apr-2014
Pros: Excellent staff. Food very good. Everyone very helpful.
Cons: Hard to think - install a lift ? !!!
Location: Dryham Park - magnificent house and gardens. Tetbury Town - nice market town
It is rare to find a hotel where the staff give a real impression of enjoying their work and wanting visitors to have an excellent experience during their stay. The dining room staff without exception were all outstanding, and worked very well as a caring and interested team. Well done to everyone at The Hare and Hounds. Thank you for a memorable weekend.
