Delightful ambience

Posted 30-May-2014
Pros: Everything was perfect.
Cons: Swimming pool
Location: Orvieto was a charming town close by, full of wonderful things to do and great restaurants
We were delighted with our stay at La Badia. It was the perfect hotel for what we required full of charm and understated ambience. The breakfasts were exceptional!

historic abbey near orvieto

Posted 16-May-2014 on Hotels.com
Beautiful view of orvieto, beautiful grounds, nice rooms. Very peaceful and relaxing. Getting to the hotel without a car is difficult -- only possible by cab from the train station and the cabs are not easy to get especially in the evening.

Amazing hotel.

Posted 18-Apr-2014
Pros: The old buildings and grounds.
Cons: With some attention to detail this could be easily be a five star hotel. Shower did not work properly. Tub was old and stained and jets did not work.
Location: Lots to see in the old wall city of Orvieto.
Beautiful grounds and architecture. Upgrade to larger Superior room was worthwhile. So glad we stopped. Just a couple of miles from the very interesting town of Orvieto.

Great Location with lots of history

We attended a wedding reception at this hotel and stayed there for two nights. The hotel is rich with history, has a great outlook to Orvieto and very helpful staff.

Very special hotel just outside lovely Orvietto

Posted 04-Aug-2013
Pros: The architecture. The location. The staff. The pool.
Cons: Need shower curtains and hooks for towels.
Location: Orvietto is a charming town with a fantastic basilica that is a must see.
La Badia is a very special, albeit expensive, hotel. Our stay was wonderful. The views of Orvietto from the hotel are spectacular as is the view of the hotel from the town. The pool is a plus when traveling with children. Breakfast was good. The restaurant is ridiculously expensive for dinner relative to its quality. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Romantic historic

Location: 4 km from Orvieto . Cabs overpriced. 15 euros too much. Hotel should try to get guests a better rate.
Really enjoyed our stay . Staff great. Grounds beautiful but pool area could be "freshened up". Great place to get married .

Beautiful 1,100 year old Abbey offers an escape

Posted 19-Jul-2013
Pros: The building and grounds
Cons: Breakfast and the guy working the front desk
Location: 10 minutes drive from Orvieto
The 1,100 year old Abby is beautifully restored with just the right mix rebuilt and untouched to give you an appreciation of the amount of work it must have taken to bring the building back to life. Dinner was very good (not cheap) and the restaurant staff were great. Tranquil setting and places on the Abbey grounds to relax and unwind. Buffet breakfast was a disappointment and the guy working the front desk was arrogant.

Wonderful stay

Posted 07-Jul-2013 on Hotels.com
The architecture of the hotel is amazing, you really feel like you're staying in a medieval castle or monastery. The proximity to Orvieto, the freeway, and the many roads to take you around Umbria is ideal. The rooms and hotel could use a little refresh, but the bathrooms have recently been redone and are clean and nice. The beds were a little hard and the double beds are two twins pushed together. The restaurant was surprisingly inventive with the local specialties. Our trip was wonderful.

A fantastic experience that should not be missed. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and, really, when did you stay in a beautifully restored monastery. A completely wonderful experience.
