LOVED this hotel!!!!

Posted 06-Sep-2014
Pros: Best location we can imagine in Orvieto. Fantastic view and great location!
Cons: I just wish the rooms were a little more updated and not so basic.
Location: You can walk to everything in Orvieto from this location!
Don't expect much from the room itself. It is very, very basic. But it was clean as can be and very comfortable. The hotel was very charming. Great, helpful, friendly staff. Adorable hotel! Fantastic cafe that looks RIGHT AT the gorgeous Duomo. I mean, you will NEVER get a better location in Orvieto. In fact, there is a TV commercial right now for a pharmaceutical product about a woman going to Italy. We are QUITE certain parts of it were filmed right from the windows of this hotel. So.. you can sit at this Hotel Virgilio cafe and have a glass of wine after a long day. And a cafe just down the way has live music... Just loud enough to enjoy, but not too loud. Continental breakfast in the lower level was lovely. Bottom line, I can't get this place put of my system. Not because of the room, but because it is a charming, Italian, lovely little place in an amazing location of one of my favorite towns in the entire world. I will be back to Orvieto, and I will not stay anywhere except this hotel.

Perfect Location

Pros: Location
Location: We saw the Duomo and also took a tour of the underground Etruscan remains below San Andrea. Our meal at L'Antica Rupe near the hotel superb.
The hotel is lovely and our window looked out at the Duomo. The staff gave us wonderful restaurant recommendations. I loved our stay at Orvieto and hope to return.

Excellent location

Location: Orvieto is a relatively small hilltop town. The Duomo is the main attraction. There are caves which we toured and very nice shops.
Driving into smaller Italian towns is also an adventure. Even with a GPS we had difficulty finding the hotel. Finally we called and the receptionist, who spoke very good English, guided us the last few blocks. There are no long term parking places on the street, but there is a pay lot about 200 yards from the hotel. The hotel is directly across from the Duomo, a truly incredible piece of architecture. The rooms are of average size for an Italian hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast in a lower level room and is typical of the free breakfasts served in similar hotels. My only complaint was with the night receptionist who was less than pleasant. However, we also ran into him the following morning at breakfast and he couldn't be nicer. Maybe he just was having a bad night. I do recommend this hotel.

Outstanding - Family owned and operated

Pros: Located very centraly to sights. The staff, while family owned, did not stop trying to hep you.
Cons: very little given what we paid for.
Location: not much to say as we were in the major plaza.
The staff were able to handle all of our needs on a timely basis including a local dinner reservation that was fabulous.

A very nice hotel just across the piazza from the Duomo. Obviously the exterior has been kept in original condition in keeping with the look and probably city requirements. But the interior is very modern looking and nice feeling hotel with updated baths and rooms. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Fabulous

Fantastic location with the wow factor. Entering the main town piazza with the Duomo as the key eye catcher, there, just on the square was this old, quaint hotel. The outside might be old but the inside is modern, light and attractive. Ask for a room with a view, but check your AIRCONDITIONER works. The double glazed windows are effective for a quiet night, despite the locals enjoying themselves on a Saturday night until the early hours, but only if you have the aircon working. Staff were very pleasant. Orvieto was the ideal place for us to spend a couple of nights at the end of our holiday. Ratio of locals to tourists was pleasant, lots of flowers, trees and birds, great eating places and fabulous ceramics to purchase. Watch out for the local market on Saturday morning.

What a nice hotel to stay in run by nice people.

Posted 06-Oct-2012
Pros: It was cozy. Cleanliness tops. Friendly. Asked if everything was ok, could they help.
Cons: The inability to call outside using the room phone.
Location: On the piazza...couldn't have been better. Orvieto is small.
I stayed a lovely, small, comfortable, modern, immaculate room facing the piazza. The hotel was renovated 5 years ago. Perfect lodging for one person. The owner and staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. They actually seemed to be glad to have guests and went out of the way to make their stay pleasant. The two restaurants they recommended were really good places to eat good Italian regional cuisine. The staff speak English.well. We were able to converse in English and Italian. I don't carry a cell phone in europe. When I needed to call a friend in Italy, they called for me from the reception desk. One cannot call outside using the room phone. The breakfast was more than adequate with a assortment of cold cuts, cheese, cereal, juices, tortas, and a coffee-making machine. I think they will make caffe latte and cappucino on request. No eggs, but in Italy one usually gets hard-boiled at breakfast. If I go back, I shall stay there again for sure.
