If you have booked this hotel or are thinking of booking - do not worry, it is fantastic. We have just returned from a 5-night stay and we couldn't fault it. There was plenty of choice at meal times (in fact, we didn't go out to eat at all) and we did not experience any queues at the bar. The bar in the 5th floor lobby has a machine to help yourself to soft drinks and there was always plenty of bottled water to help yourself to. The restaurant also has a soft drinks machine and a couple of beer pumps!
The pool areas are great and there are 2 large areas for adults-only (on the 5th floor by the heated pool) which was a great place to enjoy a bit of quiet in the sunshine.
Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back.
Please feel free to ask me any questions about the hotel and I'll gladly answer.
This was our first time to Tenerife, and we quickly understood the type of hotels and resorts on the island from both online searching and from having wandered into a few nearby hotels. We were very happy with Plantacion del Sur because it was classic and comfortable. The decor and experience was not Vegas cheesy like other hotels. Instead, it was tranquil and classic. We arrived after a two-hour delay on our flight, and we were frazzled, but from the moment the valet helped us with our car and suitcases to the reception staff who checked us in, we felt that stress melt away. The best was the staff person, Antonio, who we bumped into in the lift and gave us the tip to have dinner in La Caleta.
The hotel is huge with numerous bars and different themed restaurants, all of a high standard - the Spanish and Italian offerings especially. There is also a stand alone restaurant, Las Aguas that has exceptional a la carte cuisine and a staff that are simply brilliant. There is every available amenity you can imagine and an award winning Spa that is wonderful and if you can afford a treatment, well worth a visit. The staff throughout were warm, welcoming and couldn't do enough to help.
The hotel has direct access to the beach and the whole resort has a number of boutique shops and places to eat a short walk away.
A thoroughly wonderful place.
"Room overlooking the fabulous beach and palm trees"
Enjoyed our stay, would return if the oppurtunities arise.Breakfast fit for a king. Pianist excellent, morning and evening. The only slight niggle is relating to human beings being thoughtless and banging their doors at night. Otherwise a perfect stay.
Lovely hotel, staff, environment and would definitely recommend to others and may stay again if returning to Tenerife. We had a corner junior suite with a wrap-around balcony which had a lovely main view of the pool and a side view of the sea. The room was spacious and spotless but did not have any coffee making facilities, which we would have liked. Housekeeping was excellent. The added bonus of having the children sleep in a separate TV room within our room meant we could put them to bed first without having to have all the lights out at their bedtime. This was a lovely change as on previous holidays we have always shared with the children.
We loved the three pools which our children spent mostly of the holiday in and the added security of a life guard and again the cleanliness was excellent. The children also loved the mini-club and mini-disco activities. I have only given 3/5 for room comfort as the air-con was not good. It smelt of cooking as if it came through the kitchens first (a little odd, given we were on floor 9) and it was not cold. It was moving cooler air about but not enough to make us comfortable on the hotter days. As we were on floor 9 we resorted to leaving the sliding doors open in our room and we benefitted from the sea breeze then. Obviously we couldn't do this in the children's room for safety reasons. Hotel is a little dated but lovely.

We (2 couples late 50's) stayed for 10 days at the Gala Hotel in Jan 2014. It was one of the best holidays we have had in the Canaries. Don't be mislaid by our advanced years we like to go out at night and relax during the day. The hotel is ideally situated for night life and close to the beach. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff couldn't be more helpful.
When we first arrived we were given rooms at the back of the hotel which were quieter. When we said we would prefer rooms overlooking the street we were moved as soon as rooms were available which was only 2 days later. We were given the keys to the new rooms in advance to ensure we were happy then we moved. As I said the reception staff were excellent and it didn't matter who we spoke to they were all aware of what was happening.
The hotel was spotless and the amenities were great. Always beds and matresses available by the pool and when it came to settling the bill for extras it was dead accurate.
We would be happy to recommend the hotel to anyone and have done to some of our friends. The whole experience of booking with Expedia was great and we will be doing it again.
been there many times before. The rooms are spacious and while the kitchen may not have an oven, a half decent cook could use what is available to rustle up some decent grub. Local wine (very drinkable!!!!)in the supermarket next door is stupidly inexpensive so don't be hung up on having to spend oodles on a known brand. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area. Find the ones you like!!
We stayed here for 6 days, The hotel, food, facilities, location and staff were excellent. There was only 1 thing that let it down. We stayed in the block called Aida with a garden facing room. The problem was that the entertainment in the garden bar ran till 11pm at night. If you wanted to get to sleep before 11pm forget it. We did want a couple of early nights and did not manage to sleep until after the entertainment. But other than this the hotel was amazing and we will go back but will make sure that we don't have a room with the same acoustic drawbacks!
