“Villa Cortes not 5-star”
After a prompt and efficient check-in we were shown to our room. iimediately on entering we were hit by a wave of tobacco smoke odour which was so bad the concierge remarked on it before we had recovered from the initial shock. Either it was not a No-.Smoking room (which we had ordered) or the hotel does not manage it's accommodation adequately (it would have been obvious to housekeeping staff that the occupiers were smoking in the room and should have been stopped or moved elsewhere). Sprays etc were used to mask the smells but the underlying stench remained - all the furniture, curtains etc reeked of tobacco smoke, absolutely awful!! Also, we had to queue for a table at breakfast, on 2 or 3 occasions and service was poor with tables not cleared, beverages slow to arrive etc. The room used to serve breakfast was claustrophobic, low ceilings, dark decor, too many tables etc. Pool area was very crowded, sunbeds packed closely together, towels left on sunbeds all day without the beds being used, Altogerher not a very good experience, there are many better hotels on Tenerife, real 5-star with service to match. We shall not visit Villa Cortes again.
