Good location currently sat amongst building site

Posted 07-Nov-2014
Pros: Staff / service; food; location; a few English TV channels (BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV & Channel 4)
Location: Currently nestled between 2 building sites - one at the rear noisy & dusty (didn't bother us as went to beach). Beach very close as are upmarket shops
Stayed at the Gran Tacande end Oct 2015. Rated at 5 stars but I would rate at a pleasant 4. Arrived mid-evening & were presented with a glass of cava each at reception - nice touch. Decor comprises a lot of marble but not many 'softer' touches. Somewhat spartan / minimalist style. PRO's: (1) The staff; very professional, friendly & efficient. Nothing too much trouble (2) The location; just a walk through the outside restaurant, past the pools & through a key card security door &you are just 30 seconds from the Duque beach. Here you can hire a pair of beds under a parasol of just under €20 / day. Give the beach wardens your towels and they will put them out for you next morning. The chinese masseurs on the beach were also very popular. (3) Food at the restaurant was very good. A self serve buffet style but the choice is very good with some food prepared & kept hot whilst others, such as fish or meat cuts were cooked on the spot. Plenty of good salads, cheeses, desserts. As much as you could eat. Breakfast also good. (4) The weather; perfect all week. The sun was powerful but the nice breeze on the beach and the sea were the ideal antidote. The official temperatures didn't seem that hot e.g. 21oC - 25oC but having been round the Caribbean earlier this year the beach felt just as hot. CONS: Not many but you need to be aware that opposite the front of the Hotel is a large building site. Whilst we were there they were also building a shopping centre at the rear so a bit noisy.

Not a 5 star

Posted 04-Nov-2014
Please don't go there expecting 5 star luxury, it is not, lucky if it a 4 star. Catering staff are lovely but that is it. Needs a refurb . Paint pool area during day and do electrical work in bedroom above our room at 2 am when we complain reception say it will continue a little longer. Next night starts sgain until my husband got angry with reception staff then it stopped. Is that 5 star service? Our room looked out onto to a staircase that people would use so you couldn't sit on the balcony, Is that what you expect for 5 star?

Excellent hotel and facilities. Above expectations

Only one issue was the bed and the pillows were not very comfortable. The bus journey to Loro park booked through the hotel had no air conditioning so we all felt a bit sick. Apart from that it was superb.

Friendly Hotel Dream Gran Tacande

Posted 18-May-2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed for 1 week 9th-16th May 2014, large waste ground/building site outside entrance of hotel and building work ongoing at rear. The hotel itself is very nice,I paid to upgrade to seaview room on arrival it was well worth the extra £s,the hotel is spotless and I would recommend half board basis as the food is good. However the best thing on offer is the quality of service, all the staff are very friendly and attentive, would stay again. One last moan only tv channels in English are news channels.

Wonderful hotel

Posted 23-Aug-2013 on Hotels.com
Having seen good reviews for the hotel, we knew that it was going to be good, but it really exceeded our expectations. The food and service from all members of staff was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is just minutes walk from the 'El Duque' beach and in the centre of this 5* resort. If you like your shopping, there is a very smart shopping centre just across the road. There is a lovely promenade to walk along the front - if you turn left you will find the more touristy area with bars, restaurants and souvenir shops whereas if you turn right it is more upmarket (and expensive!). The hotel does have some activities including yoga, water aerobics, darts, Spanish lessons etc although these are low key and not well attended. There is also professional entertainment every night as well as pianists in the bar. We went half board and you can have your meals in the main restaurant or outside on the terrace. We never had to wait for a table even outside which was much busier. There are plenty of sunbeds and the sun terrace is very spacious. Some people do reserve beds but if you're not fussy about where you sit you will always find a spare bed. There were 2 larger pools, both a lovely temperature but salt water. This is the only negative I can find about the hotel, it really made your eyes sting! We travelled with our 16 year old daughter, there weren't many other British families there and not many teenagers, mainly families with small children.
