Lovely Stay - with cockrel wakeup call

Posted 22-Sep-2013
They say you get what you pay for. We knew when booking that the hotel was a european 3 star - so we were not expecting all the luxuries of a 5* (some people that write on here expect significantly more that they are willing to pay for). We were under no illusions. The stay was very nice. Accommodation acceptable. We even had a cockrel out back (over in local residential estate not on the hotel complex) that can be heard from D bloque (at least) from about 4.30 each morning (or so my hubby tells me). I would describe it as "rough around the edges". Some cracked tiles on the complex and in the apartments etc but nothing that would cause any injuries etc. Copius sunbed availability for the time of year we went, and most of the bar, entertainment and waiting staff were jolly and amenable. We used local transport (buses) a lot. And for those commenting that the nearest beach is a distance away with lots of hills - you can easily use the inexpensive Titsa buses to get up and down the hills and also to the nearby towns (los gigantes etc). €2.25 from Varadero to Los Cristianos by bus. very reasonable.

Ideal for a family break or a chillax

Posted 26-Jun-2013
Pros: Location is good, pool ok and there is always something going on it you want to take part
Cons: Queue to check out ... struggling to find anything really bad
Location: 10 mins from beach, bars and restaurants local and excellent bus service
Good venue and although there was work going on in one of the pools the other was open. Entertainment seemed to be enjoyed by all those on family hols. Food is good, not not great but is plentiful and the menu varies. Certainly you will not go hungry. Few bars and restaurants, supermarkets etc close by - beach is 10 minute walk. Bus goes by the door. Staff excellent and there is plenty to do if you want to do more than catch the sun

OK budget hotel

Posted 04-Apr-2013
Exterior - not bad at all, good pools, plenty for kids to do. Local town and beach are within walking distance. Interior - shabby, with beds that resemble medieval instruments of torture, and very odd pillows (very long for some reason, but only a couple centimetres thick.) Canteen-style catering for all-inclusive deals, but food wasn't too bad for the price.

Not like other Barcelo hotels I have stayed in

Although this is a high quality hotel chain, the standard here did not match previous experience. The accommodation was spacious but tired and the bed was uncomfortable. A good range of food but very cramped tables.

Great for a family break.

Posted 30-Dec-2012
I went for Christmas 2012 with my husband and 2 children (aged 1 and 4) and we had a lovely time. The staff were really friendly, the room was really clean and the resort, Playa de la Arena, is lovely. The rooms are dated but very clean. We were in block E so away from the noise of the bar and the entertainment which was great for us. The weather was about 24 degrees each day. The beach is about a 10 minute walk away as is the main resort with plenty of retsuarants and shops. There is also a supermarket right outside the hotel aswell as a couple of restaurants. Our only niggle with the room was we were on the ground floor and the patio doors didn't seem that secure. They locked from the inside but it wouldn't take a genius thief to break in. Having said this, the hotel itself seemed pretty safe. If we go back I would prefer to be on a higher floor.

perfect hotel for family holiday

Posted 12-Jan-2012 on Hotels.com
I hadn't done much research on this (it was a recommendation) so the hotel and the family friendly atmosphere came as a lovely surpise. The only flaw (and it is very minor) is the wheels on the trolleys woke me up most morning (but it was 8.30)

Happy staff!!

Posted 08-Jan-2012
Pros: wonderful staff from cleaning staff to entertainment team.
Cons: 'heated pool' v cold
Location: Best on the island, not too much around, not built up, which I like. only a few minutes walk or bus ride to busier area or to nearest beach.
A 3 star hotel where the staff give a 5 star effort and performance!

Great hotel, FREEZING POOLS

Posted 04-Jan-2012
Everything about the hotel was great. The ONLY downside was the pool was ABSOLUTLY FREEZING. Beyond any other pool id been in before. Was a shame coz hardly anyone used them while i was there.
