As San Francisco natives, we wanted a romantic, elegant and fun night away. The Hotel Monaco is fantastic. The location is of course great. The hotel manages to be both elegant and whimsical and fun. The rooms are pretty small, but their excellent design compensates. Highly recommend.
This hotel was such a wonderful surprise. It is centrally located and a quick, two block walk to Union Square. The lobby and beautiful and the staff is incredibly friendly. Our room was small but welcoming. I highly recommend this hotel.
Nice hotel, room was big for 4 people and clean! Location was great because we could walk to Fino's Italian Restaurant and the Curran Theater to see I Love Lucy. Shopping was close too. Had so much fun celebrating 2 milestone birthdays!!
Very nice hotel in a great location , walking distance to union square shopping area and Westfield mall. The staff was very nice and respectful. Concierge and employees were very helpful to me and my boyfriend when we asked for directions. Easy to find cabs around the area. Walking distance to restaurants and trolley station . Housekeeping was fast to replace towels or anything needed.
I pulled up to the hotel for a two night first anniversary celebration with my wife. The staff is super helpful, the lobby is full of art pieces, including Dali works, we felt very safe and secure. Our room was great, the shower was like a gushing waterfall. One of the nicest hotel experiences I have ever had. The bar is a great place to kick back and relax, the room service runs until 3 am on the weekends...good for when the munchies hit. A unique San Francisco experience. We are definitely coming back.
Stood there for one night when I checked in there was an older lady very kind and very sweet the night security was very nice. the neighborhood is kind of bad at night , walking around at night time is not a good idea but it's fine. We are two girls in our 20s and the guys of course would say remarks but none of them actually approached us
The Mark Twain Hotel never pretends to be other than it is. It is a hotel built long before Big Macs and Starbucks. The windows open (no air conditioning) and you get a nice breeze. Newly updated (paint, carpet, etc.) the rooms are scrupulously clean! If you want a little more space, choose one of the larger rooms. Yes, there is street noise in some of the rooms, but you are in a city, after all.
The staff was helpful and breakfast items were plentiful (I grabbed a coffee, banana, and yogurt). Food in the immediate neighborhood was good. There is a cafe next door that had a line down the street during the breakfast rush (got breakfast later, around 11:30, and it was quick, and excellent.
There is a taxi stand across the street, and transit is close. I didn't rent a car as it is expensive to house them, and you don't really need one in the city (parking in S.F. can be a challenge.)
The hotel itself is situated 1 minutes walk to Market Street where most of the shopping is located the convenience itself is a plus. The staff is really fantastic they give guest the feel of home especially for a first time guest of the city their service in my opinion surpass the 5 stars hotel.
As to safety the area in general there are a lot of homeless people asking for money and cigarette you just have to be polite and reject them no need to be mean or aggressive towards them mind you there is also 5 star hotel in the same area but the hotel staff really do their part by not letting non guest to enter the hotel which includes the use of their toilets. I would strongly advice family visitors do not let their children roam about in the nights.
If you need a cab let the front desk know so that they get their regular/trusted cab drivers to service you but as most of the things are nearby the only time you may need the cab is to the airport.
