“If ever returned to Tel Aviv, I would look at other Hotels first.”
The Hotel was near the beach (only 5 minute walk) and the room was clean and comfortable (even though it resembled an office reception area). The breakfast was limited for a hotel of this price - a bit disappointing. You had to be a contortionist to use the toilet - legs jammed against the bath, toilet roll digging in your ribs - not a pretty picture! and the bath was ok if you are 4 feet tall. Couldn't switch the tap from bath to shower as the button was siezed solid - had some water coming out of the bath tap and some from the shower head. Overall, it was Ok.
“Reality Check!”
This is my 1st experience w/ Expedia and I would have hoped they would check the description of the hotel.. Hotel star ratings in most cases are reliable. The hotel provides certain amenities for each star but there is fluff factor & the City Hotel uses a lot of literary licence. 4 Stars Germany is a lot different in Tel Aviv This hotel is a drawback to Miami Beach 's pre- Rebuild this hotel is trying to be modern in a 50 year old body. Close to the beach yes. Med views yes. Walls Paper thin YES Breakfast Yes...... very small selection Specify NON SMOKING AT TIME OF RESERVATION! TV confusing. No HOT water.....Luke warm at best on 6th floor. Lobby and rooms need major rehab. Well worn floors & curtains NOTE: Check room charges. An 18 minute call from room to Israeli cell phone s/b at .40 US per minute. Tried to charge the Shekel cost at par to US $ rate & I had to question him for a refund The Parking is a deal. The staff is very noisy. Pillows hard and towels worn. If I had 1-2 mill to rehab this place, it would be a great Boutique hotel but in fact it's well worn out.. Staff is nice... watch out! Since this is the first time inTel Aviv and didn't have much time to plan, this is what I got but I am sure if you're use to a courtyard hotel in the states go to a 5 star hotel and spend the extra 50-75 bucks. Near railroad to Ben Gurion and Jerusalem. Do not rent a car if you stay in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv. Just rent is to go touring. Get GPS Good Luck
“Great place, great location, great people!”
The hotel is conveniently located within 1 minute from the very popular Gordon Beach and the famous Rothschild Boulevard. It has friendly staff and comfortable bedrooms. They have a good buffet breakfast with lots of variety. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tel Aviv.
“High quality hotel and a reasonable price”
We are pleasantly surprised - The rooms look much better than the lobby and reception... Great food selection and very helpful staff. Having a free wireless Internet connection is a GREAT bonus, considering that in every other hotel we stayed in Israel, the Internet was for pay and not cheap. Having lots of outlets in the room was also great, which is a must in the electronic age. And all that, for a very reasonable price, definitely not more expensive than other hotels. This hotel is great for business travelers, as well as for families (special family rooms available). I was so pleased that I took the brochure of Atlas Hotels (the owners) so will be able to stay only in their hotels in my future visits.
“Would be happy to go back!”
City Hotel is near major streets, shopping, small and large restaurants, and the Mediterranean. The breakfast was terrific, and despite a clearly crowded hotel, we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast, well tended to by pleasant staff. Although at first the room seemed small (especially since we had upgraded to a size larger than studio), we were quite comfortable in it. There was no problem with nighttime noise. We stayed at the hotel twice, once at the beginning of our trip and once towards the end, and we were highly satisfied both times. Staff helped us avert a potential crisis when we forgot some items at a previous hotel in Israel and again when my husband had a medical emergency and had to go to the hospital. All in all, a hotel we recommend highly--at reasonable rates!
“Practical, convenient and to the point: I would definitely go back”
I spent 5 days in October 2010 at the City Hotel, which is superbly situated at 4 minutes walk from the beach and at walking distance from a range of appealing cafes and restaurants at Ben Yehuda and Dizengoff Streets. Mapu Street is itself a quiet passageway between Ben Yehuda and HaYarkon Streets, conveniently away from the noise of the main roads. The building is unassuming but pleasantly functional and to the point. All areas are clean, everything works, the decoration and furniture are practical and the atmosphere is positively jovial. The underground garage is an invaluable asset: it is great being able to park with no hassle and take the lift direct to your floor when you arrive late at night after driving around the whole day. The room was comfortable, clean, pragmatically decorated (to good effect) and fully equipped: fridge, air conditioning, plasma TV, safe, etc – all working. The bed was good and the free Wi-Fi connection proved infallible. The toilet was impeccable, with a good shower, and my room had a balcony with a view to the neighbourhood, all contributing to a homely feeling. The hotel offers a generous Israeli breakfast, although it could improve the choice of fruits. All staff was helpful, polite and highly professional. The City Hotel is not particularly cheap, but Tel Aviv is an expensive place. I did have a great time and would definitely go back. My special thanks to the front desk staff: Pini, Evgeny, Benny, Norbert, Dudi and Noa. LD, London, UK.
“Decent no frills hotel, close to the beach.”
The hotel was fine. A bit overpriced, but everything is at this time of year in Tel Aviv (July). The room was super-basic. the weird bit was that we asked for 2 separate beds, but the beds were actually locked up between the side tables, so in effect it was one large bed. The staff was friendly, and even though the breakfast stops at 10, they served us at 10 30 (on both days of our stay), which was nice of them. Overall, quite satisfying stay. Enjoy TA!! PS The hotels also happens to be a stone throw away from an excellent frozen yogurt place (on the corner of Ben Yehuda and Gordon), which I think is the best in town.
“Good value for money”
The City Hotel is good value for money. It is well situated, comfortable, and has a good breakfast. The beach is two blocks away and the hotel gives you discount cards to some of the beach restaurants. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although the air conditioning get shutting itself off once the room reached the desired temperature and it had to be restarted manually. This is a problem as one must get up in the middle of the night to restart the AC. Also, the cable channel selection was somewhat odd with neither BBC World or CNN International avaialable. The lobby area is not particularly impressive and could use an upgrade. The elevators are small and not particularly clean. When I entered the hotel I thought that I might have made a mistake booking it, but the rooms and the breakfast area were nice so it made up for the lack of charm in the lobby.
“Very Nice”
Not much of a view, but nice location 2 blocks from Beach. Hotel staff helpful, impressive breakfast for the price.
“Hotel and the city”
Excellent location! Highly professional staff! After eighteen hours of flight I was a "little bit" cranky. They managed to handle the situation and accommodate all our requests despite some mismatching details in booking process. They were great help in many other issues that we experienced being in foreign country. Very friendly and professional people! The breakfast was great. The variety, freshness, presentation and taste were excellent. We stayed for five nights and came back after touring the country. Next time in Tel Aviv- absolutely "City Hotel"!
