Not because of the location or the rooms. It's equal to a quality inn for American standards but the staff. The front desk staff was so outstanding and professional like I wish the Hilton's and the Wyndham hotels I am used to would take a look at this service level.
we were staying for four days during our honeymoon, the staff made it very special by decorating very pleasant and helped us with our very request, 5 star hotel with 5 star service in my mind...not sure why it is listed as a 4 star. One comment about the men who may be working as security in the lobby, not sure of their responsibilities, however, they stand their without one smile and long stares to entering guests, makes it a little cold and not very friendly...other than this, EXCELLENT staff and hotel! A special thanks to Tina from reservations, extremely helpful and very pleasant who helped make our stay a very memorable one!!
"Old fashioned luxury with all modern conveniences"
This is one of the oldest luxury hotels in Tbilisi, recently modernized to provide for all the needs and demands of a discerning guest. The hotel is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside, but it is the staff that make this hotel so special. They all speak English perfectly, so language is not a problem, and they truly take pride in the hotel, doing whatever it takes to make you comfortable. Guest rooms are larger than I'm used to, perhaps a throwback to the 1900's when the hotel was built. The buffet breakfast is outstanding for its quality and variety, and there's a very pleasant courtyard for coffee or cocktails anytime.

Hotel Diplomat is a pleasant, nicely renovated hotel. The front desk staff speak some English, which is very helpful. Unfortunately for us, it is about 1 mile from Freedom Square and uphill all the way. We like to walk but this was quite tiring. The closest restaurant is perhaps a quarter of a mile away - Mary. Astor Cafe - which we liked a lot.
The Armazi Palace is a nice, no-frills hotel with hot water, clean bedding, and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was nicely tiled and had a shower that worked well. The hotel, in Avlabari, is a 10-minute walk above the Old Town and located a few minutes away from produce sellers and small markets that offer a good range of foodstuffs. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rusiko personally walked me to the nearby market to help me buy some fruit and to show me where the small grocery stores were located. When I asked for a teapot, the staff provided their electric tea kettle and tea bags. They were always quick to offer coffee or tea, gratis, if I was waiting in the lobby. And they were happy to store my luggage when I checked out, as I was not leaving until the evening. The walls of the rooms are thin, however, and the night a large group showed up in the wee hours, it was impossible to get to sleep. But the staff took my complaint seriously and made sure all guests afterwards were aware that they should keep noise to a minimum in the evenings. It was perfectly quiet in the nighttime afterwards. The TV channel offers only one English language news channel. The free WiFi, however, will let you use your computer to stream news and other programming with no interruption. A VPN will allow you to stream programs from the United States. Breakfast is minimal but features khachpuri--the wonderful Georgian cheese pie. Large mini-bar selection. I had a lovely stay.
