Based on reviews we were expecting a place that did the trick, but only as comfortably as the low price tag called for. Our expectations were exceeded. The host accommodated our late check-in time. The room was cute and quirky, was a good size with a large double bed, and though the bathroom format was odd, it totally worked well for the space. The streets around were nosy, but we simply turned on the room fan to make an even noise and then we slept like babies!
This is an excellent deal for the price. We had a room with balcony overlooking the river, with breakfast included. The hotel is extremely clean, the person at the desk speaks perfect English and French. There are wonderful tiled floors except for the wooden staircase. There is a roof top terrace for a private spot to get some sun. It's old style, but that's what gives it charm. The laws of the land require this hotel maintain its heritage character - even painting a window frame requires a permit! Location is great to walk anywhere. There is pay parking directly across the street, but you can park for free in a lot a few hundred yards down the street. The attached restaurant has an extensive menu of seafood and meat. It gives hotel guests a 10% discount.

Our stay was short, as it was just overnight, but the hotel was located close to the tourist area so we were able to walk to everything we wanted to do; stroll through the market, shopping, restaurants, and ferry to the island beach.
"An authentic, cozy stay in a family property in Tavira"
We chose the city of Tavira as the base for the Algarve part of our Portugal vacation mostly on the recommendation of the Rick Steves' guidebook. It was definitely less touristy with quaint streets, local people, cozy restaurants, and no giant hotels. The Quinta do Carocol was a great choice as the property is large with authentic looking rooms filled with local furniture and decor. As the property is older, it could use some improvements and unfortunately there was some mold and mustiness in the closet areas which could be a problem if you have allergies. The property had nice landscaping, ponds, and many places to sit. Unfortunately we came during a somewhat cold and rainy time. The heater in the bedroom was necessary and led to a pleasant sleep. Also the bathroom has a heater which helped a lot. Free wireless in the indoor lounge area iss a must for us and it worked just fine to check our email on our Android phones. The place is a good 10-15 minute walk to the river and main parts of town which was just fine for us and the area seemed safe. Two supermarkets (chains) are nearby and a couple of take-away food places. Overall it was perfect for our stay. Afterwards we drove to Faro and then took the train to Lisbon.

We needed a place for one night in Tavira before heading back to Spain and Porto Novo proved to be absolutely ideal! Central to the town, with absolutely fantastic facilities including a massive pool and lush rooftop bar, this was exactly what we needed to sort out our onward travel, as well as enjoying some of Tavira's charm in easy walking distance.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - they even let us use the pool & hotel facilities after we had checked out as our bus wasn't for a couple of hours.
All in all a wonderful way to finish our trip to Portugal and a great reminder of the country as a whole - clean, civilised and very friendly!
We can't wait to get back there, and will be recommending it to everyone!
Nice and quite location but only five min walk from shops and restaurants, if you want a relaxing chilled holiday this is the place, no nightclubs here it's chill city, Cabanas is lovely, or hire a car and travel further lots to see. Staff all good and leave you alone unless you need them. I had a room with a kitchenette so I stocked up on supplies for an easy life. Food is cheap in town. I didn't try the restaurant but was told by other guests it's great food, nice pool area and small gym all help make the stay a good one. I would return for sure, I spent five days there and it's great value for money. I would give this place a recommendation to all my friends.
