Beautiful building, great staff GLUTEN FREE!!

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: Building itself, food, staff, location.
This is a beautiful old building, with a lovely dining room where you eat breakfast. The staff are extremely friendly and the rooms are comfortable, with good facilities (tea making, iron/ironing board, chairs, desk, air con, good shower). Of interest to those who have to eat gluten free, or like me, just wheat free, there is a small selection of gluten free items on the buffet - a selection of breads, crackers, cookies and cereal. I found Finland in general to be good on the gluten free front - you can buy products in the supermarkets and in a lot of restaurants. The market in Tampere has a stall selling gluten free baked goods too. The funfair cafe has the best gluten free pizza ever!! The hotel has a comfotable space where you can have a drink and/or read a book. The location is good, close to the river. Tampere is easy to negoitate on foot anyway and we walked everywhere.

good location, good and well trained staff

Posted 22-May-2014 on Hotels.com
It would score five in all categories if the hotel would be better maintained ie clean windows, polished front door and no peeling paintwork. Very good breakfast but I would have prefered English Breakfast tea or plain black tea brewed with HOT water, not luke warm, the same applies for coffee. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we would stay again.

Historic hotel in central Tampere

Posted 03-Feb-2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel entrance was hard to find for the taxi driver so we drove around for 10 minutes trying to find it. Nice historic feel to the entrance, halls and room. Clean and tidy. I ordered 'bread and coffee' for breakfast as I was leaving prior to 6.30am but it turned out to be rolls filled with meat or fish. Not very appetising to a UK palate! So I just had the coffee. I found the restaurant a bit expensive. Location handy for city centre and the airport.

Classy hotel in Tampere

Posted 07-Oct-2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel had a lovely sense of style - it felt like early 20th century largesse. Stylish dining room, cozy bar, and friendly helpful staff. It is five minutes walk from the main square and the Findlayson complex of restaurants and bars, and close to the Tampere Cathedral - a real treat for the murals and vaulted ceilings. Our room overlooked the park and the city center, with the hills behind. Breakfast was a full and extensive buffet, and we had a choice of coffee strength. It was a really enjoyable stay.

Great Hotel Staff

Posted 07-Oct-2013 on Hotels.com
I spent the week in Tampere, the hotel's location was ideal for sightseening, access to the outer parts of the town on public transport and general atmosphere of the area. An art-deco period hotel (1929) with some significant history given the civil and the 1939-45 wars. The hotel staff were first class and alway very willing to help. Only one minor point was the slight smell (sewage) from the sink/shower in the toilet?? Overall a great place to stay, and very friendly staff.

Character Hotel

Posted 18-Aug-2013
Pros: Staff, location, restaurant, an hotel with real character.
Cons: Near fire engine station so the odd noise.
Location: A few cminutes from the railway station but away from the main drag of Tampere.
An oasis in a busy city. Great staff and an excellant breakfast room and basement/terrace trattoria. Comfortable bed and pillow selection.

Great Hotel

Posted 14-Aug-2013
Pros: Excellent staff and we felt very comfortable and welcome during our stay. Very interesting architecture, particularly in the public areas.
Cons: The in room safes were out of action.
Location: Very central location and the Tammer waterfall and waterways were nice.
Highly recommended hotel in Tampere. Tampere is a nice city and lots to explore by car around the area.

Good location

Posted 19-Jul-2013 on Hotels.com
We stayed here for two nights. Unfortunately the weather was very hot, and our small room had no air conditioning, so it was very uncomfortable. Our window faced towards town so we also had a lot of noise from the hundreds of people who had gathered in the riverbank in the evening. On the plus side, the staff were really helpful & friendly, and there was lots to choose from at breakfast. The downstairs areas of the hotel are lovely, there are even board games and children's dress-up clothes to play with in the library! However I don't think we'd stay here again as I don't think it was value for money.
