“Great Location and Good front desk service”

I originally booked a room with a King-sized bed because I was traveling with my wife and two sons (both are less than 2 years old). When I got to the hotel and went up to the room, I realized that the person at the front desk had put me into a room with two Queen-sized beds are virtually no space for the kids. I was not happy about that room, so I went and spoke to the Front-desk manager. He was very generous, apologized profusely and then upgraded me to a suite on the top floor witha king-sized bed and more than enough room for me and my family. I am happy to know that this location has good service and that they were willing to fix their mistake and go above and beyond my expectation. Also, I participated in a wedding that was held across the street at the Straz Center for Performing Arts. This hotel was and ideal location for any events taking place at the Center or in the the downtown area.

“Good location, friendly staff”

Hotel staff was friendly and courteous, no problems with check-in, excellent shuttle service, had everything I needed. Room was a little smaller than I expected from looking at the pictures, but no problems with anything.

“Tampa HOJO”

The hotel was nice. The service was good. The pool was also nice. It appears that this was once a top hotel, however it is showing signs of age. Otherwise, it was a nice experience and stay.

Area recommendations

Downtown Tampa is beautiful and caters to tourists. The walking route along the river is excellent.

“Close to downtown”

Nice and helpful staff. The bedroom was big, but a few bugs in the bathroom. Free internet computer in the lobby. Between 7 and 8 am we was the only guests at the hotel restaurant for breakfast. The cutlery was not clean. The buffet was limited to the cold buffet (bread, yogurt, fruit, cereals) or the cold and hot buffet (saussage, bacon, scramble eggs). Coffee shop and fast fodd restaurant inside 1 mile radius. Hotel's parking use in a public way during event night at concert hall. Close to downtown and Ybor city. We didn't use the pool or the shuttle service but it was available.

Area recommendations

Ybor city (restaurants) Longboat key's beach and on the east coast (broadway street) close to the marina 5 or 6 dolphins swimming around the boats. The Raymond James Stadium close by.

“Served the purpose”

I stayed at the Howard Johnson for two weeks was in town for business and the hotel served my purpose just right The staff was extremely helpful and they had set up a work station with a printer which made getting anythin printed out just easy! I would say that if they maintained the hotel and renovated the elevator this would make the hotel just perfect The only thing that didn't seem reasonable to me was the overnight parking fee but we disregarded that for the convenient location of the hotel

“Had a good stay”

I really enjoyed the hotel. It had everything we would look for in a hotel. If you're looking for a place to stay for a few days in downtown Tampa, the Howard Johnson is the best place to stay.

“MEMO”

Positive review overall, but was not happy about the $8 a night parking fee, when an independent parking lot was adjacent to H. J.'s for only $5 a night.

“Not Impressed”

Although the main lobby and lounge area look newly updated, the rest of the hotel certainly wasn't. The restaurant that is attached to the hotel looked nice but didn't have the most convenient hours so we never got a chance to try it out. The hotel is nicely located in the downtown area and is right off the main highway. P.S. They charge $8/night for parking
