“Well positioned”

Some staff were friendly and helpfull. I had to complain about the bad state of the towels. I was given two very old towels (ragged). Took them back to the reception and showed to them, the towels were replaced for slightly better condition ones but still a long way to go. Breakfast was good, so was the restaurant. Will definitely stay there again (just hope they will provide new towels next time).

Area recommendations
Stay within the ''ring road'' that separates the old and new town. Although modern in some parts, there isn't much to see (unless you like shopping centres).
Nightlife
Some clubs (G-Punkt) they look at you first and then decide whether you are in or not, not friendly at all (to say the least). Increasing number of ''pole dancing clubs'' with bouncers inviting you for a drink. Very busy restaurants over the weekend (very hard to find a table for 2 - most restaurants prefer big groups).

“Will definitely return”

Have just returned from weekend at this hotel with friend. Each year we go to a different city in Europe and this was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The location is superb, it is moments from the old town square. The rooms are very comfortable and, although we were concerned about being kept awake by bar across the road this was not a problem at all. Breakfast was a great buffet, the sausages in particular were very tasty. Finally the staff were incredible. They were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. I almost did not want to write this as I want to return but don't want this place to be sold out!

“Perfect location - would recommend unreserveably”

We arrived at Tallin airport at approx 5pm and as it was beginning to get dark decided to take a taxi as we had been told it would only be about 10euros. The taxi we took was fully licensed but had a charging structure that was 3 times the normal - we didn't at this stage know what normal was !!! so it cost us 31euros. Not a good start. However we couldn't fault the reception at the hotel as they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and were perfect in every respect. The room was large and the bed was extra large. Only downside was the bathroom had no bath but the shower was very modern and easy to use. No tea of coffee making facilities where left in the room but a quick call to reception soon brought these. Breakfast was a very good cold buffet plus a choice of hot food. Once again served by very attentive staff. All in all a very nice 4days/3 nights. Just watch out for the taxis. We took the bus back to the airport for 2euros !!!

Area recommendations
We visited a few museums but one in particular stood out and that is the Bastion Tower which at certain times of the day takes groups into the underground tunnels. Both the tunnels and the tower and a must see. The other recommendation is to join a walking tour that starts from the Tourist Information office just off the main square each day at 12 noon. These tours are free but it is expected that the guide gets a tip at the end - the guide we had was superb and the walk takes about 2hrs.
Dining
Spoilt for choice - we tried Hell Hunt - Good but a bit trendy so better for those who haven't yet reached their 60's. You must try the Medeival food and drink in the corner of the Town Hall - 1euro for food and 2 for drink. Both surprisingly good but it is the atmosphere that you also go for.

“Great stay”

This Hotel was faultless, it was very clean, the room was amazing when you travel by yourself normally you end up in a small room yet i had a king size bed. The staff made the difference here, they were so helpfull with every question ask and always did everything with a smile. There is no lift however if you struggle with walking, you shouldnt visit Old town anyway because you will not be able to get around so the is no point in th ehotel having one.

Area recommendations
The whole of the 'old town' is worth visiting and try to visit the countryside.

“Central Location but So So Room”

Very central location just off the main square is a plus although Tallinn's old town is quite small so this is not as big an advantage as it would be in larger cities. The hotel building is quite small and contains a small central courtyard over which many rooms overlook. This is popular with smokers and might annoy some. We picked the hotel for the fact that the rooms appeared to have character with stone feature walls and new blended with old. Our room in fact was just a standard plastered box painted a very dark chocolate brown and carpeted with a dark burgundy carpet creating a dark featureless room that could have been in any bland hotel of any age in any country. Some rooms may have period features but if this is an essential for you then perhaps try elsewhere. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable, but the room badly needed a coat of paint and some more furniture to make it more homely. We had paid for a larger room with sitting area and this translated into the inclusion of one very uncomfortable couch. All in all, nice common areas in the hotel but a pretty poor room.

“Highly recommended”

This was a good find - each room is distinctly individual (2 other guys I was meeting were staying at the hotel) and some way from the plastic chain hotels often found at this price-range.

“Central location within the old town and charming”

Lovely old character hotel in a great location within the old town. We had a lovely spacious bedroom with a large 'underground' bathroom. Staff were friendly and helpful on reception. Breakfast was similar each morning but the choice was plentiful. We had a late flight home and unfortunately we couldn't keep our room due to it being booked however, staff stored our luggage and we had private use of the sauna and shower area prior to leaving.

Area recommendations
There is so much to see and do in Tallinn and you can book in advance on line. The square in the old town is a wonderful place to sit and people watch. It is more expensive there however, if you venture a few streets out the cost of food and drink is half what you pay in the square.

“Tallinn for the weekend”

Perfect location, in the heart of the old city, easilky accesible and very quiet given the location in a busy city.

Area recommendations
The old city, a stunning ancient city with varied architectural styles of buildings dating from the 14th Century. Much to see on a long weekend break, lots of bustle and plenty of restaurants to cater for all tastes. City bus tours for an overview especially the tour out to Parita. In the old town the must see views are from Toompea,. Take the time to visit you would not be disaapointed.
When to go
August for good weather
Getting there
Tow and three quarter hour by plane 15 minute taxi at 7-10 euros
What to pack
gagoole just in case + good walking shoes
Must see
The old City and Toompea

“Central Location, Great Hotel”

This was my second visit to the Merchants House Hotel & it was as good as I remembered, the staff are very helpful, the rooms are comfortable, but best thing is the location, right on the doorstep of the main square. While we were there they had several concerts in the main square, although the hotel is very close to the action the rooms are still quiet & all of Tallins attractions are in easy walking distance. The only downside to this hotel is that the hot breakfast food isn't really that hot.

Area recommendations
For a pleasant stroll visit Kadriorg Park & Palace which is easily reached by Tram or Bus, we also stopped off at Pirita Beach, which has good facilities & if you are interested in history there is a ruined covent you can visit in the resort too.
