“Home away from home!”

My parents and I stayed at Bern for a few days during our visit to Tallinn and we have never been in a more welcoming and professional hotel before. The staff was very welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. All of the staff speak English but with us some even spoke Russian, which is our native language. The lady at the front desk who signed us in gave us some suggestions regarding places to see and dining spots and offered any further assistance we might require. The room was clean and neat, the bathroom spotless. Also, the breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choice. One of our visiting days fell on my birthday and it was a huge surprise to receive a card and complimentary Champagne from the staff which was brought to our room! This kind gesture made the day all the more special. Overall, the staff is professional, welcoming and kind. The hotel is clean and sufficiently big. And the location is excellent, with the central Town square only 5 minutes' walk from the hotel. GREAT hotel! Definitely worth visiting Tallinn again.

Getting around
The best way of getting around the city is by foot! The streets are narrow and walking them is an adventure by itself; you see more of the city that way.
What to pack
An umbrella! The Baltic is very well known for random and brief rain throughout the day. It could be sunny one minute and raining the next, so take an umbrella with you when you go out. Fortunately, there are many cozy coffee and tea houses along the streets where you can wait out the rain and in the mean time drink a cup of tea with a delicious pastry.
Dining
Olde Hansa is a great restaurant right by the central Town hall square. It's Medieval Age theme is so wonderful and precise, the costumes of the servers are excellent, the furniture is brilliant, and the food is delicious. Also, you get a dinner and a show, there's a group of people who come out to the balcony overlooking the dining area and play flutes, fiddles and drums. It was like time-travel. Also, you must visit the tea houses located all along the streets of the city. The ones outside of the central Town square are the best because they are quiet, small and offer delicious dessert and tea or coffee. DO NOT order dessert at a restaurant! Go out, take a little walk through the city and stop by any tea house.

“budget hotel in the Old Tallinn”

It's a basic hotel but it has everything for a budget traveler. The room is a bit sparse but clean. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was nice. I was leaving very early on the last day and got a little bag to go (a couple of sandwiches, an apple and a hot drink). Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is located at the edge of the Old Town.

“Excellent hotel in every way”

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Personal touch - red roses and champagne in the room on my birthday which was a complete surprise. Excellent buffet breakfast. Immaculately clean, comfortable room with modern en-suite shower room. Convenient location right on the edge of the old town - quiet but only a couple of minutes walk to the centre and also handy for public transport to the airport, port and out of town places of interest. Useful small supermarket opposite. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, in this price range. Amazing value for money.

Area recommendations
Hanseatic Town and Toompea Hill - very little traffic and all the interesting sites are here. Most of the large modern hotels are outside this area.
Getting there
You can catch a public bus between the airport and the edge of the old town for just 1 Euro, a fraction of the cost of a taxi!
Dining
Strongly recommend The Kloostri Ait on Vene, excellent food at reasonable prices, just a stone's throw from the Town Hall Square. If the weather's fine also worth paying slightly over the odds for a meal outside one of the many restaurants around the Town Hall Sqaure just to soak up the atmosphere of this characterful Medieval city.

“Excellent hotel for the money, great location”

The exterior is attractive and modern for a nice small European hotel. The lobby is very nice. THE STAFF ARE GREAT. A particular THANK YOU to Sven Liiv who helped us multiple times and is very friendly and knowledgeable. All the staff were terrific. The elevator is the best I have ever seen in a small hotel. The breakfast is fine, better then most small hotels. The room is standard size for a EU hotel, fairly basic but very functional. The shower room design works remarkably well and the bathroom air venting is fantastic. This is the only bathroom of that design I have ever seen that work well and is not a issue at all. THE AIR CONDITIONING saved our trip, we were there in July and it actually works (rare for EU hotels) The only complaint would be the coffee is not to our taste, however the McDonald's that is five minutes away solved that. The location could not be better - we would NOT want to be inside the city wall - to busy and crowded during the day. The grocery store across the street is fantastic, everything you need at reasonable prices. The one improvement I would suggest for the hotel would be get rid of the mini bar (does anyone really ever use those??) and leave the fridge for the guest use. Maybe giving a option of mini bar or fridge would suit all. Next Tallinn trip we will definitely stay there again. Tallinn is so much more interesting then Helsinki hands down. Try EstAdventures tours for a very inexpensive and fun day.

Area recommendations
The old town, modern Tallinn is OK but not inspiring
Dining
Try restaurant Ulvi Kook on Puhavaimu, great food reasonable price, they do not pay to advertise in the Tallinn tourist trap rags so they are not well known except for locals..

“Great location and helpful staff”

We chose this hotel on the basis of the very positive feedback of the majority of reviewers of the Bern Hotel. The hotel lived up to expectations. Its location on the edge of the Old Town was very useful, and it was only 10 mins walk to the airport bus stop, and to the bus station for trips to the surrounding areas. Probably the hotel's greatest asset is its staff. Any question was answered promptly and competently by the excellent, friendly staff at reception, whose ability to move between a range of languages was impressive. The room was always clean and comfortable, and a reasonable size for a city hotel. We would certainly stay at the hotel again next time we visit Tallinn.

Area recommendations
The Old Town is a delight, with a maze of interesting streets and sights. Despite hours of wandering around the town, we constantly found new places of interest. However, it is also worth either walking to (30 mins) or catching a tram or bus to Kadriorg Park for its musuems, art gallery (KUMA) and pleasant parkland.

“Bern Hotel In Tallin June 2011”

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2011. The front desk staff were very friendly & helpful and spoke very good English. Breakfast was very good, lots of food and quite a bit of variety. Our room was large and quite clean. The pillows were awful, we had to order an extra pillow each for any comfort. The hotel was very accommodating and responded with 2 extra pillows immediately. Our room faced the front of the hotel and we were worried about road noise but it was very quiet. The bathroom was clean and functional; getting used to regulating the water temperature took some time; one tap controls the flow and the other tap controls the temperature. There was lots of hot water once you figured that out. Location is pretty good, 5 to 7 minute walk to the main square and a 10 - 15 easy walk from the boat dock. The hall was looked dirty but it may have been the carpet design; it is pretty awful. I would stay here again in a minute. I would call this a 3 star hotel. I have no trouble recommending it.

“A very pleasant experience”

Hotel Bern is ideally placed for exploring the old town of Tallinn. Everything is in easy walking distance, and the staff are very helpful when it comes to queries. The breakfast buffet was very good, with plenty of choices. I enjoyed my stay very much and would have no reservations in recommending the hotel.

Area recommendations
The old town with its charming and historic buildings is definitely worth exploring at leisure, and one can have frequent coffee breaks in one of the many cafes and restaurants. The food is very good, even though not exactly cheap. For some slightly cheaper prices try a restaurant outside the historic centre. Howver, if you fancy dining in spectacular surroundings you may well feel a little extra money is well spent. If you feel like something different, a day trip to Helsinki might interest you. There are different ferry operators, and the quickest crossing (only in good weather) only takes about 90 mins. You also get a good look at Tallinn from the sea, not to mention the impressive view of Helsinki Cathedral from the harbour.
