“Very average - shabby rooms and poor restaurant service”
Stayed here for 3 nights in order to explore Tahiti island a bit more. The location is ok - black sand beach quite nice. We found the room to be very shabby (broken plugs, paint peeling off the walls) and not cleaned properly (hairs and grime in the shower, cobwebs and dirt in the corner of each room). The shower annoyingly didn't drain properly either. The additional problem was that the restaurant staff were not all to pleasant (efficient, but seemed irritated to be serving us). Having said that, the check in staff were very helpful and the food in the restaurant was tasty. If you do stay on Tahiti stay at the Intercontinental (1st) or the Sofitel (2nd) before staying at this place. It is of 3* standard whereas the other two hotels are lovely and the staff are very pleasant.
“Could be better”
Bad service. Bad value equation.
“Dirty and bland”
We chose this hotel as the location appeared to be close enough to the airport for an overnight stay - it was not. You have to drive through a pretty seedy part of town before you get there and the taxi driver totally ripped us off. The sheets in the beds were dirty and there were not enough pillow for the number of registered guests we had. The food in the restaurant was horrible and the hostess and wait staff looked as if they wanted to be doing anything but working there. We only needed it for an overnight stay but really, 18 hours was too long in this hotel.
“The hotel feels a bit abandoned”
The restaurant tables were dirty as well as the corridors to the rooms. We arrived and they did not have a bed for our six years old daughter. The room was made with a bay craddle. We also didnt like the food on the restaurant, overcooked and very salty. When we complained they sad they would tell the chf and brought us the bill altough the plate was untouched.
“The honeymoon from HELL!!!”
My husband and I searched and researched every hotel just about and thought we found the perfect hotel to spend our honeymoon. However, that was not the case. We ended up checking out early, and what a nightmare that was. After a couple of days of realizing we were entirely to far from everything and a that cab ride downtown was 2500 franks in US currency $25, we were really starting to doubt our decision. We really doubted our decision after a couple of days of $25 cab rides, $25 cheeseburgers and just over priced food. One afternoon we decided to take a nap, and while napping I felt something crawling on me, I pulled the sheet back to see a ROACH on my arm. At that point, I had had it and we packed up and checked out days early. I then found out my husband had been killing roaches since we arrived. Our honeymoon was ruined, we can never get that back. When we checked out the hotel offered to exterminate, but by that time we were done. I am so disappointed that the hotel was not at all what we had looked forward to for months. This was a nightmare!! I would not recommend this hotel to ANYONE!!!!!!
“Great but need a car”
Hotel was great, room was great, location was far away even though they had 2 shuttles each day into Papeete at 8am and 2 pm returning 12 and 5pm. Taxi's are not cheap in Tahiti so there are few options unless you want to use the local busses. This only becomes as issue if you want to go out for the day like going to Moorea as you will need to add on taxi fares to get to and from the ferry. Ordered a bar snack around dinner as was not too hungry and was surprised, first one was good size the next was supposed to be mini pizzas and 5 small crackers arrived with some olive paste on them. A little tough for $10. Overall the hotel is great, pool is nice but you have to be careful not to go in when they have the French aqua aerobics classes as they take over the pool. Would be nice if they spoke English too.
“A very enjoyable experience”
Loved the location and surroundings, however the black sand and wild surf did nothing for our appetite to spend time swimming at the beach (contra a lovely large pool overlooking the sea). Great to watch views from the balcony including amazing sun sets across Moorea Island. Staff were excellent and made every effort to pacify us. We arrived late Saturday with Sunday a non event given most places were closed on that day. probably would have been better arriving on the Monday. Food very expensive within the Hotel. Car hire is the go so that it broadens your ability to seek out cheaper eating places in Papeete and ease of getting around generally . Hotel does have a shuttle but limited as to numbers and times to and from Papeete. Staff could have been more attentive to providing detail of tours - as it was we had to ask the questions. In summary a very good Hotel with room for further improvement. Moorea Island is an absolute must during your stay - some of the best scenery we have ever encountered. Breathtaking. Take the full day Lagoon Tour and swim with the sharks and Stingrays + BBQ lunch, snorkelling etc.
“Relax”
Excellent experience, 15-20 mins from papeetee so best if you have a hire car. Easy to find, great staff, lovely relaxing vacation, worth the 20 min drive, around 30mins from airport. Would definitely go back.
“Dungeon Bathroom”
Attractive facility in general but dark bathroom made daily necessities extremely difficult. Architect put all engergy into design appearance rather than useful function in bathroom. Artsy light fixtures emitted dramatically insufficient light so that you could not see to apply or remove makeup or fix your hair. Additionally, there was a great looking wooden sliding door meant to close off the all-glass partitioned bathroom from the rest of the room...which you could not slide shut. Appealing swimming pool, but blacksand beach fenced off and had large, forceful waves crashing which stirred up black murky water. Didn't make you want to swim in the ocean.
“Loved it”
We really enjoyed our stay. The black sand was surprisingly soft. The shuttles to Papeete were great and everyone was friendly and helpful. Just a tip: they do have an a la carte menu for breakfast so you don't have to pay for the expensive buffet. You could get pancakes, chocolate crossaints or a full bacon egg and sausage breakfast for a good price. Coffee was cheap, but cream for it wasn't and juice was very expensive, but we kept some juice in our fridge that we bought in town and that was much cheaper. Hope that helps as some people staying there didn't know there was an a la carte menu until we told them.
