Le Meridien Tahiti has 150 guestrooms and overwater bungalows. A renovation of the rooms was completed in March 2011. The guestrooms are in a U-shaped, low-rise building overlooking landscaped gardens. Bungalows have views of the lagoon and are accessed via exterior walkways. Wood furnishings reflect local Polynesian style.

All guestrooms have armchairs or sofas with coffee tables, and minibars with refrigerators and coffee/tea kettles. Cable/satellite TVs show local and French channels as well as CNN. High-speed Internet access is available for surcharges in 30-minute, 60-minute, four-hour, 24-hour, or 72-hour increments. Bathrooms have separate bathtubs and showers, as well as separately enclosed toilets.

Upon arrival, all guests are offered a complimentary fruit juice at the poolside bar.

“Good for short stay - too shallow for snorkeling”

We originally planned a week at Le Meridien, but, after reading more about visiting Tahiti and neighboring islands, we realized that we would miss a lot by not going to another island. Everything I read from other reviewers (on this site and others) seemed to be right on. The rooms are fine with a couple quirky exceptions (like the faucets and the hot pot). The breakfast options are way too expensive for us. We got food at the neighorhood supermarket for breakfast and most lunches. We tried the pizza spot which was good -- and there's more than pizza available. We ate one night at the hotel, and the food was good, but there were not many things on the menu that we will eat. There were lots of tropical fish, but the water was too shallow for snorkeling because you had to weave through the coral which was barely under the water. We used the kayaks every day and saw lots of fish, a small shark, a ray and a huge eel. This isn't the island for snorkeling. During our visit, there was lots of noisy yard maintenance with chain saws and leaf blowers. Don't know how often they do this. We went to Le Meridien and then to the island of Moorea. It would have been better logistically to visit another island or two first and then stop at Le Meridien for a night or two before going home so that we could have explored Papeete and been closer to our flight.

“Luxury to us”

My husband and I spent a week here for our honeymoon. We arrived in Tahiti at an early hour and I knew check in wasn't until 3pm. I had emailed the hotel in advance to advise them that we may be arriving early and they mentioned that if they could accomodate they would. Once we arrived they had our room ready which was great because we needed the rest after the long flight. This hotel has beautiful views and they offer free access to their snorkeling equip. & kayaks, plus tennis courts-which we of course took advantage of. This hotel has its own beach (lagoon) access plus a really nice sandy pool. Food can be a bit pricey if you're planning on dining here everyday but it was nice & affordable to us since we chose to explore the island & eat elsewhere. There is a burger place next door that serves food at a better price plus there's a grocery store too so we chose to buy beer & snacks to get us through the week. They offer a shuttle to downtown Papeete daily but keep in mind its not free. In order to get to the city center you have to take a cab or shuttle, walking is not an option. They offer live music in the lounge nightly. All in all, my husband and I relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful scenery but we did walk away with a lot less money. The islands are a pricey place to be so make sure you bring extra money to spend. Oh, and if you're like my husband-there is only 1 English tv channel, the rest are in French-so get to know the language if you haven't already.

Area recommendations

Head to downtown Papeete to explore the shops but keep in mind that everyone will tell you that items are cheaper in Papeete. Take the time to find the right souvenirs. We took a day trip to Moorea and we found it to be a pleasant island with beautiful and views and cheaper items.

“Tahiti aint all that”

When booking the holiday of a lifetime one would automatically think Tahiti is the place to be? Well how wrong can one be? Lets not get too far away from the truth, Fench Polynesia is the place to be but just not Tahiti. Le Meridien Tahiti looks very nice but thats about it apart from the Hotel Manager the staff were awful, very rude and not friendly, This place got too touristy and forgot its values. So rather than tell you not to go to this hotel let me tell where to go in French Polynesia, go to Bra Bora, more precisely Le Merdien Bora Bora, This place really is paradise. Take your wallet and a few dollars more and you will have the holiday of a lifetime. Crystal waters, beautiful water bungalows and breath taking views make this my favourite place on earth. Check out the Eco Snorkelling with Lauren, he really educates you on the coral reef and makes it entertaining also, great guide and great excursion.

When to go

To do's: Eco Snorkelling, Jet Ski island tour, Scuba diving To don'ts: Helicoptor ride (expensive and too short, dont see too much), Lagoonarium (miss treated sting rays, sharks and eels, its a tourist thing, just like an over crowed and cramped zoo).

What to pack

No one gets dressed up much, its very casual, I took trousers and jackets and never had to waer them once, manily jeans and shorts, ladies can get away with nice dresses but you will out dress your partner!

Dining

In house dining can be quite boring so make sure you go out and about, Personal water taxis can be expensive $80 each way (1/2 mile), The restaurants on Bora Bora are all reachable with a free water taxi at 18:30 and then there is a free pick up by road taxi to each restaurant, sounds nice but its very restrictive on time, you can only come back to the boat at 21:30 so you end up being stuck sometimes in a restaurant waiting to leave until the cab comes to pick you up.

“Excellent”

“evident design flaws”

Just returned from my third stay at le Meridien Punauuia. It's been remodeled--unfortunately. While the space age decor is confusing, the remake of the rooms is the real disaster. The bathroom faucets were back too far, so the water--unless it was on full force--fell onto the counter. The modern verandah chairs are seriously unstable, an accident waiting to happen. The small metal electric teapot is a step down from their previous European model, and the only place to plug it in is on the floor near the verandah, while it is stored across the room near the front door in an unlit cabinet, which also contains the safe. The contents of the cabinet cannot be safely accessed at night without a flashlight. Our verandah door could be locked OR it could be safety latched (night lock?) but not both because the latch wasn't mounted accurately. Too many unfortunate design choices, I think.

“Highly recommended”

Great hotel! The staff was very helpful and nice. The water is amazing and would definitely recommend upgrading to the water bungalow. There isn't much around other than a small shopping center that does have a market and resturant. The hotel is very expensive so I would suggest going to the market to get a few groceries.

Area recommendations

The all day safari excusrsion is a must. They take you up into the mountains and show you beautiful waterfalls. Make sure you take bug spray if you go.

“Tropical Paradise”

Le Meridien Tahiti has been recently renovated, and it shows. The rooms are well-furnished and comfortable; the view of the lagoon and the palm trees from the room is wonderful; Moorea on the horizon at the beach is amazing. Kayaking on the lagoon is free, and a very relaxing couple of hours. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is quite good at the restaurants (although - like everywhere else on Tahiti - very expensive). On the other hand, there is a coffee maker in the room and a small refrigerator, so it is not difficult to bring in your own food from the supermarket down the street and eat on the balcony with that wonderful view. The hotel also has access to the rental car company with the best rates on the island. So if you want to drive around the island, the rental company will pick you up at the hotel and you can leave the car there at the end as well. I highly recommend Le Meridien for your stay on this wonderful tropical island.

Anywhere along the beach is fine outside of Papeete itself.

“Nice for a short visit”

This resort was perfect for our short stay before continuing to Le Meridien Bora Bora. The modern French Polynesian theme throughout the complex was nice including the staff. If you arrive at night, you must leave your card key in the slot next to the light switches to turn on the lights inside your room. Our spacious Garden Level room was pleasantly decorated in modern decor and hardwood floor. The two sink bathroom was also roomy with an enclosed shower, separate toilet and deep bath tub. The wall between the bathroom and main room is a large glass window that you can leave open or close with shutters. All patio/balconies face the inner complex where you can see the large sandy pool and and overwater bungalows on the reef. We only ate at the main restaurant for two breakfast buffets which had the typical variety of selections (scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals, cold meats, smoked salmon, fresh fruits, etc.). The Le Meridien Tahiti also provides its guests a shuttle service to Papeete for a nominal charge.

Area recommendations

Since this was our first visit to Tahiti, we wanted to see as much as we could on our only full day. So we opted with a four hour circle island tour recommended by the hotel. This allowed us to see and hear most of the major spots on the island. We also arranged to be dropped off in Papeete to let us spend the rest of the day in the city.

“Exceptional Service”

Hotel is beautiful and service was exceptional. During our trip we decided to go to Bora Bora for at least one day , we had already booked our entire stay in Le Meridien Tahiti. The hotel was able to exchange part of our hotel night in Tahiti to Le Meriden Bora Bora saving us some money. On our last day, I I wanted to purchase a bracelet made by a well known designer Rereata, however, the bracelet was too short in length. To my surprise the hotel manager knew the designer and had her customize a bracelet specially for me and had it delivered to the hotel at no additional fee well in time before our departure! I would recommended this hotel if you are looking for nothing but the best customer service. Something to keep in mind when traveling to TAHITI and BORA BORA is that be ready to spend money!

“Best hotel in Tahiti”

The setting of the hotel is very pretty. The pool area was lovely with the natural sea sand. The cocktails were awesome. The King bed was very luxurious and comfortable. Dinner at the beachside restaurant was delicious (especially the fillet steak). We visited 3 other hotels on the island, and none compared to Le Meridien.
