“Old school simplicity”
Economy with convenience and old world charm. Just need to sacrifice some modern finishes and a little luxury for a great location at a reasonable price. we'll be back.
“Great Location for the Rocks and Harbour”
Quaint hotel with good ambiance. Rooms clean and every room is different. Perfect position for the Rocks and the Harbour foreshore area. Quick access by bus, train or ferry to other areas of Sydney. Also you can walk everywhere you want in the Rocks and around the harbour foreshore. Continental breakfast included with some rooms excellant variety and very fresh. Plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from, spend hours on the weekend going through the Rocks Markets and wandering through the lanes and walks. A nice place to stay for a weekend getaway in the city.
“Great Location, Great Character”
Location, locaton location. The Russel hotel has it. If you like character, good service and location this is it. The only negatives are lots of stairs and the bed was a bit hard. Other than that, the room was spacious, the bathroom was updated with new fixtures and white tile, the room had it's own coffee station and the breakfast that was included was very good; eggs, toasts, cereals, fresh fruit with cream (yum) coffee and juice. You could enjoy this as you read the morning newspaper provided.
“ADAM'S FAMILY HOME”
Location, Location, Location one of the best arround - BUT - No lift, No air con, Small rooms, hardly room for a suitcase !! & shared bathrooms - never again
“Before the cruise”
It was very nice for one night before the cruise!!! Fantastic location and convenience for the amount of money in a very expensive Sydney!
“Great character hotel”
We really enjoyed staying at the Russell. The room was very comfortable and roomy. The only drawback to this hotel is the plumbing. You have to share a bathroom with others - although we never had to wait. We found the shower a little frustrating as the temperature was fluctuating as we showered - in fact my friend , who showered right after myself ended up with only cold water. They are doing some renovations and installing some new bathrooms. The location is fantastic - in the "Rocks" area - near the harbour and ferries and train stations. We would stay here again with the knowledge that the bathrooms are less than perfect.
“Old Good Australian style with friendly attitude”
This hotel is not very modern style however it has a personal flair and very pretty.
“Good, modest hotel.”
The Russell Hotel is in a period building within the historic Rocks area in Sydney. Because of the myriad of stairs and layout, The Russell appears to be made up of three buildings that have been joined together and it's a bit of a maze to get around the narrow passageways. The roof garden was a very nice touch and, with its table and seat settings, was a good place to relax The staff were very friendly, efficient and accommodating. The rooms, while a bit smaller than normal, were clean and tidy, and were well presented. But it was a bit of a tight fit to accommodate two suitcases. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all of attractions at The Rocks and is also conveniently located close to Circular Quay and the Opera House. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
“A Fine Place to Stay”
This is an older property that has been well maintained. Shared bathrooms are clean and modern, but sometimes quite small. My room was clean and comfortable. A ceiling fan was all there was for air conditioning, but it was adequate, particularly at night. The location is terrific, a stone's throw from Circular Quay and upscale shopping.
“Unbelievable classic hotel”
Location, location, location! Great older hotel in the heart of Sydney's actioon.
