“Wedding time”

Loved the individual character of the rooms as we had friends staying also. Enjoyed the pool ad sauna and the extras such as a shaver etc after the swim and sauna - really great. Enjoyed te bar for a drink and breakfast with the mob after the wedding.

“Sydney's best hotel”

Cannot fault this hotel in any way. Located in a quiet area of a very busy city, yet within easy walking distance of all the main attractions. The room was comfortable, spacious and very, very clean. The service and friendliness of the staff was second to none. Everyone addressed us by our names. The underground pool and spa were excellent. The bar / library was well stocked with books about the history of Australia and the food was also excellent. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough!

Area recommendations
The Rocks area is quaint, with plenty of bars, restaurants and individual shops. The Harbour Bridge and Opera House are must-sees but the area around Circular Harbour gets really busy and crowded. The best views are by taking the Manly Ferry which costs very little (arranged harbour trips are much more expensive). Don't bother walking into Manly - its like a poor English seaside town about 30 years ago. Darling Harbour is great but not first thing in the morning - it doesn't really get going until lunchtime, although there are places to visit like the Wild Life Centre. In the morning these benefit by not being crowded. We visited the Hyde Park Barracks which had an excellent exhibition (like a living museum) about convict life and history in Sydney. We stumbled on this by accident but it was one of the real highlights of Sydney.

“Best at "The Rocks"”

We picked The Observatory as a treat for running the Sydney Marathon. The service from the concierge on everything from places to eat and quickest ways around was just perfect. The room service food was superb albeit a tad slow. The room itself was heaven and I can't remember sleeping so soundly. I will be back soon and must play tennis at the coolest public tennis court across the street.

Area recommendations
"The Rocks" of course. The best neighborhood I have found so far!

“The best stay we've had in Sydney”

Going back to the Observatory after a day's activities in the city, was like going home. They absolutely made us feel like royalty. The breakfast was wonderful, the staff was fantastic. We didn't have an opportunity to have dinner in the restaurant, but judging from the breakfast, it had to be great, as well. The room was large, for Sydney standards, and furnished very nicely. The fantastic price truly was the icing on the cake.

Area recommendations
Millers Point gives you walking access to many things, plus, it's a nice atmosphere. There are several great restaurants nearby and shopping is not far away either.
Getting around
We had a bit of difficulty getting our bearings at first. Once we realized we could head up Kent street to York, the just go left via Jamison Street, onto George Street, we had easy access to everything.
Dining
We discovered a new restaurant, Sake, on Agile Street, just a 5 min. walk away. Absolutely fantastic food and atmosphere!

“"Looking forward to returning soon"”

This is our first stay at the hotel. On arrival all staff very helpful and welcoming. Our room was ready even though we were early. We enjoyed the bar area for its relaxing atmosphere, the pool was magnificent and of an evening having your bed turned down and hot chocolate sachets and tea ready for you, was a welcome surprise. Looking forward to returning.

“Happy once again.”

This was a return visit and it lived up to expectations. Situated in the Rocks and therefore situated in one of Sydney's nicest areas for tourists. The Observatory is old style and has an excellent service ethic. A standard room is reasonable in size but the bathroom is big and has a lovely deep bath. The bar and restaurant are a little stiff by Australian relaxed standards. Don't miss one of the best indoor hotel pools in the world.

Area recommendations
The Rocks is a busy area with a lot of options but two great are 'Fish at the Rocks' which serves superb simply cooked seafood (especially lobster and scampi) and a pub called Hero of Waterloo. Both are within 10 minutes walk of the hotel.
