Weekend at Menzies

Posted 10-Nov-2014
Pros: Its location and buffet breakfast really impressed the family
Cons: The bathroom facilities were poor; toilet splashed out lots of water onto the seat when flushed and no fan, so bathroom fogged alot when we showered.
Location: The hotel is an easy walk to Circular Key and the Rocks. A train station directly across the road is also useful. Supermarket very close too.
We had a great long weekend and did the hop on hop off bus tour which was great. Bus pick up was close to the hotel which was handy. Lots of markets and events happening all around the city. The hotel is in a great location and overall we enjoyed out stay very much.

Excellent location

Posted 07-Nov-2014
Pros: Location and friendly and helpful staff.
Cons: Needs a new plug for the bath in the room we had
Location: See above
Hotel within easy walking distance of the harbour, the bridge, opera house, botanic gardens and the historic heart of the city. Light railway station opposite the entrance with connections to the circular harbour, the museums and the airports.

Lovely motel, love Sydney, had a great holiday

Posted 06-Nov-2014
Loved staying at the Menzies, staff polite and helpful, children loved the pool, very relaxing to wind down after a busy day. All was great until we were booking out and was promised that a shuttle bus would be booked to take us to airport at 3.30. When we arrived back 10 minutes early was told all was arranged ( even though I felt that he had forgoten but I belived him when he said he would be here at 3:30, then at 3:40 he told me that there was a delay that he was running late and would be another 15 min still had plenty of time to catch our flight. When the shattel bus arrived at 4:05 we were quite stressed about missing our flight, but the driver told us there was no problem he told your staff member when he booked him that he could not pick up up until 4:00. We arrived at the airport in time and just got through the checkin as they closed, but it was a very stressfull hour a bad Finnish to a lovely holiday. If we were told that he forgot to book the shuttle bus we would of caught the train at 3:30 and arrived at airport in plenty of time.

Old hotel well over due for re-categorisation.

Posted 05-Nov-2014
Pros: The location of the Hotel was great - very handy to the city and the train
We arrived at the hotel early (approx. 9:00 am) as we had disembarked from a cruise earlier in the morning. We had the intention of dropping off our suitcases and doing a bit of sight seeing until check-in. On advising reception of our arrival they advised we could take our rooms early if we did not require a twin bed room. We took one of the rooms early as we had only one requirement for a twin room as this would give us the opportunity to freshen up. We moved all of suitcases into the room and found we could not use the bathroom (toilet) as the cistern leaked (gushed) when it was flushed. The room was dark with only one chair and dusty. To use the bathroom we had to go to the guest bathroom at reception. We advised the reception staff of the problem with the toilet. We left the hotel soon after to wander around the area until our second room became available. We arrived back at around 1:00 pm to find our second room was not available and the toilet had still not been fixed. We recalled reception and complained re the lack of response of the repair of the toilet. when our second room became available we found the other room was in a different wing and on a different floor. at least the toilet worked. Over all room experience was at best a 3 star. Please feel free to go and check out room 821 and make your own conclusion. The taps constantly dripped, the cloths line was missing the line and the finally the room was small especially the bathroom in relation to the toilet and t

Good hotel well placed in the city

Posted 29-Oct-2014
Pros: The staff are very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable.
Cons: Some small details: the curtains were missing some hooks, the cupboard with the fridge in was very dirty, the hot tap over the tub was loose.
Location: Being in the city it is very convenient for both Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. The public transport is very reliable.
Overall we were very happy with the hotel. The room was of a reasonable size and the beds were very comfortable.

Great location & ambience

Posted 28-Oct-2014
Pros: All the facilities and staff were first class making for a relaxing stay.
Cons: Perhaps another set of Towell's!
Location: Central location, close to Circular Quay, all the retail outlets, cafe's & restaurants.
A very old style hotel (a good thing) with great history and relaxing welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and attentive and enjoyed the One Four Dinner and the Piano Bar after attending a function at Australia Square. The connection to the Carpark was a bonus & reasonably priced. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed and the bed a joy to sleep in after a hectic day and evening. An enjoyable stay...we shall return!

Holiday with daughter

Posted 21-Oct-2014
Pros: The beds were comfortable
Cons: It needs to be renovated or demolished
Location: Location is good. its a short stroll to Pitt St or down to the harbour
My daughter and I stayed at the menzies hotel sydney because of its location and because it's a accor hotel, which I haven't stayed in a bad one yet until now. Our room was on the top floor looking into the centre of the building and it was old. We felt like we were put up here at the end of the hotel because we booked on Expedia. We did not see anyone else over the 5 days we stayed on the same flooor as us. The bathroom just needed to be demolished. It had bad stains/rust around the drain hole of the show and the shower head was missing nodules, there was no where to put your make up case. Everytime you flush the toilet water would spray all over the seat. We ate at the restaurant and the choice of food was not very inviting. This hotel is in need of a big renovation, though I was told it was going to be demolished, so maybe it's for the best it is. Very disappointing

Hi Susan, Thank you for your feedback in relation to your recent stay at the hotel. The hotel is one of the most historic in Sydney and as such there are some aspects that reflect this heritage. However, we ensure the rooms and facilities are neat, tidy and very well maintained. A room refurbishment is in our capital expenditure plans which will result in a substantial improvement to our products. Any feedback we receive from our valued guests is greatly appreciated and taken on board. I will discuss your feedback with our management team to ensure each issue you have highlighted is investigated and the necessary improvements are made to improve our service at The Menzies Sydney. We hope that you do consider the hotel for your next visit to Sydney. Many Thanks Michael Smith
