great location

Posted 22-Apr-2014
Great location in the middle of everything, right across the street from the train that takes you directly from airport. Amazing breakfast, very clean rooms, great lobby, helpful staff. The only negative is that the pool was very cold, but overall had very good experience.

Excellent location but very tired hotel

Posted 21-Apr-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Cleanliness and lighten up the decor
Location: Wynyard train station with connection to airport and bus depot to all areas of Sydney at front door. Central. 10 mins walk to Sydney ferries & Bridge
Standard room - 1st room we were allocated had a bed with a big dip in the middle - we were moved immediately. The room looked into a square internal courtyard - very little light. Room was dark with wood and dark blue carpets and curtains. Not inviting. 2nd room - better location - more light as overlooking back alleyway. Same dark blue decor. Mould in bathroom on shower curtain and on tiles surrounding bath and on the floor. Dirt on the back of the bathroom door and door into the room. Cleanliness not up to standard for this star hotel Pool a good size - no decor - indoor on 1st floor and you need to walk past a shop to get to it - spa and heating system repaired while we were there - 2 days the pool was cold, then it heated up. Breakfast - ok...same option for all 3 mornings - no easter buns at Easter! not enough dining space for all guests. We ended up taking our food to the piano bar . Others were in the lounge area trying to eat off tables designed for drinks. Best scrambled eggs I have ever had in a hotel!!!

Pleasant hotel in central Sydney CBD

Posted 18-Apr-2014
Pros: Central location. Clean. Quiet
Cons: A little more variety to the dinner menu.
Location: Great for Circular Quay, the harbour, the Opera House and shopping
I have had occasion to stay in many hotels in Sydney. The Menzies is comfortable, and very close to all attractions. The restaurant is OK and serves good food quickly, but since Sydney has many great restaurants, I'd recommend eating out. Great for shopping in Castlreagh, Pitt and George St.

Menzies hotel

Excellent location within walking distance of major attractions. Easy access to airport ( train station right across the street). Package that includes breakfast a good deal.

Consistently good

Posted 17-Apr-2014
Pros: The staff are very friendly, helpful and fun. Last time we visited they were dressed for Halloween, this time cowgirls for the Royal Easter Show.
We came back to the Menzies because it is a comfortable hotel, very conveniently located, and because the staff are great. We also ate in the bistro in the lobby and were pleasantly surprised with good meals, better than the average "hotel food". We'd definitely stay here again when visiting Sydney.

Outdated facilities

Posted 17-Apr-2014
Pros: Staff were friendly and the gym and pool area are impressive.
Cons: In-room facilities, particularly the tv and mini bar stock.
Location wise, it's a great spot and staff were lovely but for a standard King room at $334 a night, we were very disappointed to find the tv was the smallest thing we'd ever seen, the hot water ran out very quickly and two loud fans outside our door were operating to dry out wet carpet. Upon request, we were moved to another room with a slightly better tv but overall, for the price we expected much more from an established Sydney hotel.

Good hotel, in the heart of Sydney.

Posted 14-Apr-2014
Pros: Everything !
Cons: I found everything up to standard.
Location: As Above.
We really enjoyed our stay. The Menzies is right beside Wynyard Station and within walking distance of Circular Quay, The Opera House and The Harbour Bridge. The rooms are clean and have good facilities, as does the hotel itself which includes a gym, swimming pool with spa and a convenience shop within the hotel. The staff are all friendly and helpful and the food, atmosphere and entertainment in the dinning room is excellent. I will make it my preferred destination on my future trips to Sydney.
