Close and Convenient but fail on cleaning standard

Posted 26-Dec-2014
The hotel is in very convenient location, all key tourist destination e.g. Oprah House, Harbour Bridge and Darling Harbour etc. are within walking distance. One thing I didn't like about the hotel was the rooms were not clean. You could see thick layer of dust on the carpet. Also, bathroom tiles had mould.

Excellent Hotel

Posted 24-Dec-2014
Pros: Rooms came with 2 twin beds and good for a family of 4
Cons:
Good hotel; excellent location as its just outside Wynyard station, walking distance to Darling Harbour, Martin Place and Circular Quay. Generally all good

Well located in the CBD and a Good Sleep.

Posted 22-Dec-2014
Pros: I was given a room on the top floor and that was good. The room service was quick.
Cons: The concierge should be a Sydney native or at least Australian, so they can understand English better and provide appropriate shopping advice.
Location: The train station is directly across the road from the hotel.
Rooms are nice enough. I was happy that it was quiet.

The Menzies

Posted 21-Dec-2014
Pros: Location to transport.
Cons: Staff and service in restaurants. Slow, more interested in chatting amongst themselves and with guests they obviously knew. No milk provided in room
Clean and comfortable but service in restaurant was very poor as mentioned in "what could be improved". It would have also been nice to have had milk supplied in room for tea and coffee.

2 night stay

Posted 19-Dec-2014
Pros: Proximity to all major attractions, train station and CBD
Cons: Facilities in the Sporters Bar, Lifts and several hall ways
Location: Location was great. Darling Habour, The Rocks, Circular Quay, Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Museum, CBD, Library etc
Very pleasant stay although some of the facilities are in desperate need of upgrading and / or repairs. The locality is ideal - very close proximity to all major attractions. A very ease commute from the Airport to Wynard Station. Staff were considerate although not personal.

Hi Lilly, Thank you for your review of The Menzies Sydney. The hotel is one of the most historic in Sydney and as such there are some aspects that reflect this heritage. However, we ensure the rooms and facilities are neat, tidy and very well maintained. A room refurbishment is in our capital expenditure plans which will result in a substantial improvement to our products. On another note, it's great to hear that the hotel was in a great location for your visit and we hope that you will return as our guest once again soon. Warm Regards, Michael Smith

Centrally located. Sadly, that's about it.

Posted 15-Dec-2014
Pros: The foyer was nice and the staff were very pleasant.
Cons: Staffing levels need increasing especially during the peak times of breakfasts at weekends.
Location: Centrally located to Wynard Station and George St. Short walk to Martin Place, Pitt St Mall, Circular Quay and the Opera House.
The hotel foyer was lovely, very Christmassy. The restaurant downstairs looked great and busy for a Friday night. Our twin room was on the 11th floor and the window faced into the atrium. The room was very tired. Threadbare carpet, wallpaper peeling off in places and very saggy double beds (when two people were in the bed). The room and bathroom however were very clean and there was a good range of toiletries on offer. Breakfast the next morning was a shambles. $32 per person for a full breakfast. Hot food was in short supply and at times ran out completely until more was cooked while guests stood in line and waited. They ran out of cups for the coffee machine and they only provided one toaster oven for a restaurant of over 100 people, needless to say line ups were long. The staff on that morning were working their backsides off. They did their very best considering how understaffed they were. Apparently they were being abused all morning from other patrons who were disappointed. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Very convenient location in central Sydney

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: Location is unbeatable
Cons: Bathrooms need some updating
Location: Please try the Asahi Super Dry Extra Cold Bar, short walk away at the corner of Bligh and Hunter. Pop-up open til Jan 23.
Have stayed at The Menzies a few times over the past few months. Location is great; very convenient to get to and from the airport and also move around within Sydney being right in front of train station and bus terminal. Flight from Tokyo arrives early in the morning, but hotel kindly allowed me to check-in early when rooms were available. Building is rather old, so bathrooms are not the most modern. Some rooms have no view. 2nd floor (1st floor?) rooms catch the chlorine smell of the pool, but are convenient because you don't have to wait for the elevator and can just use the main stairs to the lobby. Supermarket and many inexpensive food shops just across the street within the station complex.

Location is the key

Posted 07-Dec-2014
Pros: Location and Breakfast
Cons: Bar offerings Replace the TV's with modern versions. Cover up the flashing wifi connection.
Location: Location is great - a very short walk to Circular Quay and only 40m from Wynyard Underground Station so access to the airport is fabulous.
The location is the key to this hotel, its very close to the Wynyard Station and to Circular Key and the Opera House. The rooms are very small and basic and a little dated. Probably too small if there are two of you and travelling from overseas with plenty of baggage, there wouldn't be too much spare space. If you are on business or just there for a weekend that wouldn't present too much of a problem. The bathroom is tiny. It's comfortable enough, but the facilities are a bit dated. They should make sure the lights work - mine didn't and I had the electrician in there for an hour. The connection for the Wifi was next to the bed and flashed all night keeping me awake. Wi-fi was good speed, TV very old and slow. The bars are a bit loud at night or at least they were when we were there which was the weekend of the V8 races, mind you the bar staff were very young and perhaps that is an indicator of to whom they are marketing.. The bar selection needs some work - difficult to find a good bottle of red. Breakfast is better than most including some of the 5 star establishments. To summarize, I'd stay there on business, but wouldn't take my wife for a weekends getaway. Overall a good business hotel.
