Good location, but noisy.

Posted 28-Jul-2015
Pros: Restaurant is good, happy hour downstairs well priced (sports bar). Close to train station, CBD and attractions.
Cons: Staff could be honest about noise - it will go until 12 on Sat. If someone is given a room above the band, ask whether they might prefer another floor
Walking distance to everything, convenient location, but bring earplugs if your trip requires sleep. Park inhabitants across the street yell profanities at the moon at 3am and live music until midnight Sat night was like trying to sleep over a nightclub (3rd floor room). Otherwise the hotel was fine, but noise was such an issue over several nights that it would prevent me from staying here again.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear of the noise interruptions during your stay. It is difficult to control external noise when located in Sydney's CBD, however I will speak with our management team with regards to the live music playing that late. On another note, I’m glad to hear that you took advantage of The Menzies Sydney’s fantastic location and hope to see you at the hotel at your next visit to Sydney. Warm Regards, Michael Smith

Great location central and easy access to train

Posted 26-Jul-2015
Pros: Good character, good buffet breakfast.
Cons: The toilet in our room -flush mechanism sticking every time. Lack of a blanket in the wardrobe was disappointing it was a cold night.
Have stayed there before and would recommend it for character, budget and location.

Posted 23-Jul-2015
Pros: Location, very clean room, very good service
Cons: More attention to the number of towels in the pool area - without having to be reminded by guests to provide more
Location: Opera House, botanic Gardens, Victoria markets, train station & grocery store literally across the street - but no noise
Staff provided very prompt to our request for minor maintenance, brekky amazing, staff very friendly

Disappointing

Posted 15-Jul-2015
Pros: The only good thing about the hotel was the buffet breakfast, beautiful selection and staff were great.
Cons: Communication is respect to the evacuation and also a follow up as to why we were woken at 12.30pm by another guest banging on his door.
Location: Location good, train station directly across the road, close to circular quay.
The first night we were evacuated due to the fire alarm going off. We were not given any explanation nor told if it was safe to re-enter the building. People went back up into their rooms not knowing if it was safe or not - very poor communication. The second night there was a person banging his door constantly, very unsettling for our 2 children. During that night at 12.30pm he again started bagging his door so I called Reception and they were going to send someone up from Security. We still do not know what had happened and why this happened. Our children were a little scared as to what was going on.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the The Menzies Sydney Managed by Accor. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. It was unfortunate to have a fire alarm sound during the first night of your stay. The evacuation was ordered by the fire brigade, in which our management team had to comply with. I apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of the evacuation. The feedback we have received regarding the incident has been very positive from our guests, with regards to communication from management. It's disappointing to hear that you found this was not the case from your visit. With regards to your concerns regarding a noisy guest nearby, please note that should an incident that puts our guests and staff at risk occur, the security team will take control of the situation, ensuring both our guests and staff are safe. We appreciate you sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Many Thanks, Michael Smith

Hi Paula, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately the hotel does not own or manage the car park, however we are able to validate guest’s parking for $50.00 per 24 hour period, instead of the standard price of $71.00. This is considered to be a competitive rate for parking in Sydney's CBD. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Many Thanks, Michael Smith

Posted 12-Jul-2015
Pros: Food, transportation, clean room .
Location: Train station , Circular Quay, Sydney opera house , St james ....We can walk to all the attractions。
Kids and I came to love this hotel, which is located in the city center, where are very convenient, opposite a subway station and bus stops, to visit friends went to another street as long as you can until it reaches the bus stop with friends , you can walk directly to the Circular Quay and the Opera house, the hotel also has a very convenient breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, the hotel staff is very courteous and give us help.It is a very nice hotel.

Not what I expected

Posted 06-Jul-2015
I was hoping to find a 4 star hotel but I felt like I was staying at an old motel. The room was not very appealing, the bathroom was old looking and feeling. The bath was so shallow I couldn't even take a bath if I wanted to. Without a doubt the biggest disappointment was the bed. Oh that was a very painful, shockingly uncomfortable bed. I would feel the springs in the mattress. Thin bedding, not plush or luxurious feeling. Woke up with aches and pains. The heater was adjustable to 25 degrees only, the night we stayed was a very cold one. I would not recommend this hotel, so disappointed.

Hi TT, Thank you for your feedback in relation to your recent stay at the hotel. The Menzies Sydney opened as Sydney’s premier hotel in 1963; therefore it is one of the most historic buildings in the CBD. Some aspects of this building’s heritage can still be seen in the hotel today, however we try to update areas where necessary. Despite the hotel’s heritage, we ensure our guests are provided with rooms and facilities that are neat, tidy and well maintained. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Kind Regards, Michael Smith
