Classic Sydney Inner-City Hotel looking tired

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Pros: Location - right above Wynyard Station, and very close to CBD shops
Cons: Lifts, rooms
Friendly, Very well located, lobby upgraded and modern enough, but lifts and rooms definitely showing their age. When we arrived they didn't have our Expedia reservation details, but they went out of the way to help whilst we waited a few minutes to get the confirmation. We recommend this hotel mainly because of price - other mainstream inner-city hotels would have been much more expensive on the days we were there.

Very convenient place to stay!!

Posted 14-Aug-2014
Conveniently located, the Menzies is old but a nice place to stay. A few blocks one way and you have circular quay, a few blocks the other way and you have the QVB and the city centre, a few more blocks another way and you have Darling Harbour. Then right across the road you have Wynyard Station, so it is very convenient! The concierge were extremely helpful also.

Saturday night at the Menzies Hotel

Posted 12-Aug-2014
Pros: Nice quiet hotel, friendly, helpful staff, location, nice pool area with spa, gym and sauna
Cons: Windows need cleaning, it appears that some rooms need renovating, better pillows!
Location: Nice quiet good location, shopping, sight-seeing, night-life
The room we booked was a 'Mystery Hotel' deal and upon entering our room, to be honest, we were a bit disappointed. The room looked small and 'old' and the fittings looked like they dated back to the 70's. It was in dire need of a renovation. The windows needed washing and we had a view of the office block a few metres away from our window. There was only one chair in the room and the TV screen was tiny, not much bigger than my laptop screen! Anyhow, we did go back down to reception, and they were very obliging and gave us a better room, this room was in better condition and had two chairs and a nicer outlook. The rooms were clean and the staff are very helpful, friendly and obliging. The hotel is in a great location. The windows of the rooms need cleaning and the pillows weren't very comfortable, but the bed was good.

Hi Darbster, Thank you for your feedback. With regards to the rooms, the hotel is one of the most historic in Sydney and as such there are some aspects that reflect this heritage. However, we ensure the rooms are neat, tidy and very well maintained. I apologise that you were disappointed on arrival with your room, however I'm glad to hear that we were able to move you to a nicer room. We hope to welcome to back again soon. Many Thanks Michael Smith

Convenient location

Posted 07-Aug-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Internet
It is time The Menzies caught up with the 21st Century and upgrade and provide better and cheaper internet. My charge for 24 hours was equal to my annual charge at home. We were in 515 and about 11pm there was a very loud water rushing sound that went on for about 20 minutes.

Fabulous Location

Posted 06-Aug-2014
Pros: Close proximity to transport and Sydney CBD, as well as a lovely hotel
Cons: More variety of food on offer for room service
Location: We went to the Sydney Habour bridge, Opera House, the Rocks, Bondi Beach, NSW Art Gallery, Chinese Gardens, and there are plenty of shops to see
The Menzies Hotel had all the facilities we needed and was so close to the train station it made for a perfect Sydney CBD holiday. Also within a short walking distance to shops, restaurants and everything we needed. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Will definitely stay here again if we are in Sydney.

sydney city break

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: The staff were very friendly and polite, the breafast area was large and well stocked, the reception area was very comfortable.
Cons: The carpets in the corridors hoovered right up th the skirting boards, bathroom walls and door washed better near the loo.
Location: Fantastic location just off George St, 10 min walk to both Darling Harbour and the Rocks. In the centre of the shopping area. Bus stop opposite hotel.
The hotel was well placed, right across the road from Wynyard train station (no noise from the trains) the decor in the rooms and corridors was a bit dated and well used. our taps had seen better days but that is to be expected, however I was a bit concerned about the stained grout inbetween the tiles, there was no extractor fan in the bathroom and the door had to be kept shut otherwise the fire alarms may have gone off due to the steam coming out of the bathroom. the room was comfortable and very spacious, no draws though only hanging space.

close to the opera house

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: Closeness to the city and a comfortable room
Cons: Advice on how to get from car park to lobby without climbing lots of stairs.
Getting to the car park involves a cluttered back alley; getting from the car to lobby meant climbing stairs with cases, the reception staff were very welcoming and I was not aware the breakfast was included in the tariff. Room slightly old-fashioned but comfortable. A short walk to the Opera House and back.

I DON'T RECCOMEND THIS HOTEL. YUK

Posted 05-Aug-2014
Pros: Pool was good.
Cons: The whole place is run down.
Location: Close to train station that's is it.
Would never stay again. Waited hours to just get a bath towel to our room even after going to reception twice my young chrildren had to wait until very late to have a bath. Lifts going down to ground floor from our room on floor 11 took 15 minutes at one stage of the stay. Would NOT recommend dissapointed to say the least.

Convenient city hotel

Posted 26-Jul-2014
Cons: Room service menu
My experience this time at the Menzies was more pleasant than previous stays. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Location excellent for my needs and convenient to a variety of city needs and tourist hot spots. I have used this hotel a few times for overnighters when heading to Sydney for Uni studies. Overall would come back again although not the best I have experienced. Room service menu could be improved with more variety.
