“Nice hotel...”
great stop the hotel is in ,right near the rocks ,
“Not impressed”
Sadly not really the level of service we have come to expect from the Shang. With the exception of the first floor restaurant staff who were excellent the general attitude of the other staff members was poor / bordering on uninterested. There was obvious damage in the room and both my wife and I found the front desk staff rude. This is not a cheap option for a stay in Sydney and as a result one would expect better service.
“Maintenance a shocker!”
Overall the hotel was clean, comfortable and within walking distance of most of the main attractions. Only issue we had was the air conditioning unit was leaking all over the carpet just outside the bathroom door for most of our stay and when we reported the problem, we got the impression that the staff didn't really care.
“Disappointing...”
Whilst the staff were pleasant they weren’t particularly helpful. After standing in a line for 10 minutes waiting to check in, when we did we were not told of any of the hotel facilities or where to find them and were handed one key... we had to ask for the second. When we got to our room, which had 'harbour and blue mountain views' it actually overlooked the toll booths, the fridge didn’t work, the carpets weren’t vacuumed properly and there were plastic wrappers on the bathroom floor. When we arrived I said to the porter that the wedding gift was breakable and to be careful when carrying it... it arrived being held by the ribbon only & the paper torn! For dinner we decided on room service... big mistake! The bolognaise was watered down, the fish and chips had three cocktail size pieces of fish only; we also ordered a chocolate pudding, sparkling water and a lemonade. All for only $110!!! Harts Pub next door would have been a MUCH better choice. We requested an upgrade at 1030am on Sat morning & were told it shouldn’t be a problem and we would get a call on the mobile to confirm in 5-10mins... 3 days later we are still waiting! On check-out we handed the keys and comments card over only for the comments card to be shoved to one side. I'm positive it ended up in the round file under the desk. With many other 5* hotels in such close proximity I am amazed at how lazy the Shangri-La's staff are – oh, and no full length mirror to be found in the room...
“Sydneys Premier Hotel”
The Shangri La Hotel in "The Rocks" area of Sydney was one of the best accomodation desicions i've ever made. My partner and i stayed in a harbour view room and could not have been happier. Waking up every morning to the bridge and opera house in the same window blew us away. The Hotel, service and staff are superb and i would highly recomend a stay here. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for and i'm more than happy spend a little extra on a short time away to get a full on luxury experience. Great position in walking distance of most sights and transport options.
“Shangri La?”
Negatives - Not on a par with other Shangri La's in terms of quality of room. Proximity to some major roads means its hard to avoid road noise too. Positives - Great views from top floor bar. Didn't eat in restaurant at night but breakfast very average for price and room crowded. Great location and price good considering where you are. Walking distance to most central attractions and close to train service.
“highly recommend”
You feel very welcomed from the moment you get there till the moment you leave. Everyone is very friendly and makes your stay enjoyable.
“Awesome View Pay the extra!”
If you are only in Sydney once in a a lifetime, pay extra to have the Bridge/Opera House view.... It was spectacular!
“Great”
Good experience, nice staff
“Don't waste your money”
I had the misfortune to stay at the Shangri-La for 7 nights in mid February. I should have realised that something was wrong when I secured a 20% discount. Check-in at 10pm was very slow. The single receptionist spent 30 minutes with a guest and then did not even apologise for the delay. The room on the 12th floor with the view of the Opera house was OK. It was a bit shabby and not entirely clean. Certainly not to luxury hotel standards. The bathroom floor was not cleaned during the whole of our 7 days stay, thank goodness they provided slippers. The sheets were appalling they were too small for the bed so they rumpled & creased easily which did not make for comfortable sleeping. Complaints were met with a smile but nothing changed. Room service was a joke I tried twice unable to get through I left a message as requested. The first time it took 1 hour & 10 min before I got a call back by which time I had given up. The second time we left the room after 50 mins to eat out. The Shangri-La has a fancy restaurant called Altitude on the 36 floor. The view is good if you are at the window but the food is expensive and pretentious. They also ignore their own dress code. I don’t enjoy dining with parties wearing dirty denims a graffiti t-shirt and a hoody safe to say his companion was dressed to kill. Maybe he was a very minor celebrity. I was pleased to arrived in Singapore and be treated as a welcome guest
