Did not pay much, got even less
The size of the room was about 8 sq meters, not much bigger than the bathroom. They charged things from minibar from my credit card which I didn't take but after reclaim corrected that.

You booked our budget single room and the sizing is apparent in the title 'Matchbox room' and with the photo's and measurements provided online. This is also reflected in the pricing which at $65 I am sure you have to agree is a steal in Sydney's hotel market! Next time, please see our friendly staff at reception if the room is not to your liking as we have many different double and deluxe double room types we could have shown you. We do apologize for the mix up with the minibar charge and the refund was promptly made to your credit card. I want you to know that I have followed this up with my staff to ensure this error does not occur again. We want all of our guests to have a comfortable stay with us and I do apologize this was not the case for you on this occasion. Next time please feel free to approach our friendly staff during your stay as they will always go above and beyond to ensure you have the best possible guest experience with us.

Small room, great price with a very comfortable bed with clean linen. Shower with fabulous large head that was adjustable and high enough for tall person. The floors are my gripe, bathroom floor looked dirty and as though it hadnt been cleaned in months also carpet in bedroom was worn, stained and dirt of white small spots at bottom of bed, noticed it as soon as i walked in.

Brilliant location and friendly staff Got a free upgrade which was lovely. Bed *was* a little bit strange/kind of lumpy, but other than that, loved it. Is literally opposite a light rail stop, very convenient.

Hi Ken, Thank you sharing your experience with us. Please note that none of our rooms are smoking rooms, and our air con systems are driven from outside units on the roof of the hotel. I reviewed your feedback card left this morning and instantly went to your upgraded room to investigate whether or not there was a smell of cigarette smoke. I did not personally detect anything myself, however I appreciate some people have much more sensitive noses to others and i did notice you had the windows open, so it is entirely possible smoke from outside can enter if left open. Please accept my apologies that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion, and know we tried our very best to ensure your stay with us was an enjoyable as possible. If you do decide to give us another chance, please get in touch with me directly and i will personally see to it that you have an enjoyable stay at a great price. It was OK and served its purpose for me and I would return under similar circumstances. The carpets were threadbare in places and may cause a tripping hazzard.

The overall experience was underwhelming. The supposedly accessible bathroom was very poorly designed. There was no fan, nowhere to keep toiletries and the shower was configured in a manner whereby using it resulted in everything in the room being saturated. The picture on the tv was so dark it was barely possible to watch programs on certain stations and it could not be adjusted. On a positive note, the room was clean and centrally situated.

Can't beat an old fave....
I love this hotel and I stay here often but I didn't get my preferred room on this occasion and I wasn't happy with the room we got, it was stuffy, didn't have a great odour and the ridiculous size of the shower head for such a small shower meant that water went everywhere! Staff however have addressed my complaints in an email and thanked me for my feedback. They are refurbishing at the moment but that was also happening last June so seems to be taking a while. The location is tops and price is usually pretty agreeable and staff almost always friendly and quite accommodating.

The location was great. The stop for the tram was right out front. The staff was super friendly and helpful. But the room was really musty smelling and the carpet was stained. Beds were ok. Furniture was pretty rickety and the drive in the room was filled with mini bar items so tough to get your own water bottle in there.

The location and value was great. Haymarket is a great area and the light rail is on your doorstep so accessing any of the main city destinations is easy

Coffee maker was crap. It kept spewing coffee everywhere. I didn’t like the shower set up either, i like doors that close off the whole shower so water doesn’t leak out.

We loved the heritage exterior and internal staircase is just gorgeous. Room 111 is small but the beds were comfortable and the cleanliness was lovely. Arrived late but staff were very accommodating.

Situated in a lovely old historic building, this hotel offers great value for money. The room we stayed in was as clean as a 5 star hotel and had a lovely new bathroom with decent toiletries. No worn old towels here! Would stay at this hotel again without a doubt.

Room was small but functional. Bed would be better moved under window to face TV. Noisy guests next room and a bit too close to reception area. I would stay again but would ask to be away from reception. Location in city was good.

Great value for money. Hotel is quite dated but clean. Location is excellent - hotel is right in front of the new tram and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Also just a few minutes away from tourist spots. Staff are fantastic as well, always pleasant and very accommodating. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a convenient place to crash after a day of being out and about around Sydney.

The renovations are make an older building surprisingly appealing. It was actually more spacious, comfortable and clean than expected. Would definitely recommend.

If boutique hotel equals hostel then this is it. Our bed was squeaky, there’s no way to take a shower so th our water getting everywhere and you have to keep the bathroom door closed or the steam will set off the sample alarm. We had 1 dim overhead light and the hallway that led into our room was always dark.

The history of the hotel and area was interesting. Started as a hotel then post office then hotel again. Bakeries nearby for breakfast and snacks. Near subway and activities. Would stay there again.

HIDDEN SECRET
Quirky, quaint and charming. Centrally located on transport links to all of Sydney. Staff extremely helpful and friendly.Very clean and tidy . Tastefully and simply decorated.Only problem is if you are looking for large rooms this is not for you but if you are seeking the above in an historic building it is perfect. Large communal lounge, kitchen laundry area so room size is not an issue plenty of over flow space.Highly recommended. Would definitely use again

It was a nice heritage property with old world charm. The rooms are more modern though the whole place needs a significant renovation, carpets are threadbare, paint was chipped on the walls, a/c controls falling to bits etc.
