“The seedy side of Sydney”

Generally the Mercure is a reliable hotel in terms of service and cleanliness, and this one is no exception. However, there was little in the way of amenities or service. The restaurant was usually empty and although there was a "happy hour," the barman appeared infrequently. As with the Holiday Inn across the road, prices for internet in the rooms are extortionate. One can find cheaper Internet outlets all around, as well as explore the seedy side of Sydney, with sex shops in abundance, along with massage parlors, and fairly bleak looking bars. To be sure one does not have to walk far to find more pleasant places, but this is not a place I would return to next time. The weekend was a mass of noise with drunks and drug addicts everywhere until the early hours of the morning.

Area recommendations

I would recommend Darling Harbour. It's a little touristy but clean and pleasant, with spectacular harbour views and numerous amenities. There is also ferry access to all areas of Sydney, including major beaches like Manley.

“Dingy”

Reportedly 4* hotel in potts point. The hotel is average and probably not worth the money when there are so many other great hotels around. It's in a great location and is clean but it is pretty basic. The minibar is empty and the room looks old with a slap of fresh paint.

“Just opened but rooms are shabby”

I heard they just opened up so i thought all be be new. The poured all the money into the lobby and lounge renovations. The actual guest room was hihgly disappointing - something i would expect in a remote Eurporean town with a 2 star hotel. The furnishings looked old - early 80s college look - and the bathroom was shabby. for what it was it shoudl have been a lot lower rate.glad i only booked it for a few days of my trip in Sydney. The check in staff were all very nice but the hotel rooms are an unpleasant surprise - including warm hallways. It is a great locaiton of potts point and kings cross but not i would not recommend. i also spend a few days across the street in the holiday inn which i highly recommend. there are also other nice hotels in that area - check those out and avoid this one.

Area recommendations

A wonderful surprise was the Paddington neighborhood. I ventured there after much of the site-seeing was done and toward the end of my 2 week trip. It has great little cafes, restaurants and shopping of all kinds. Dont miss spending at least a few hours there on your trip to Sydney.

Must see

You have to do the tour of the Opera House - one of the most iconic structures in the world. And enjoy drinks at sunset at the Opera Bar outside righ ton the warf - wonderful, relaxing setting and a beautiful view.

“Not Impressed”

Good location, but very small rooms and basic front desk services. Rooms don't have a wifi or wired internet connection.
