“Good Hotel-would return”
A good experience. Reception fellow was quite personable, and very helpful about explaining the amenities in the neighbourhood. The area was quite nice, very busy, with people in restaurants, bars, etc. Bsically a nice urban residential/commercial area.
“Good Value”
Good location, only 5 min walk to Kings Cross station. Interior a little shabby and room very small - but at the price you can't really expect more.
“Not Sydney's Finest”
This "Fawlty Towers" experience drew very few smiles. The elevator took me to my floor, paused, took me to the highest floor, paused, then delivered me back to the ground floor before releasing me... My room was an internal space with an airless shaft for light and ventilation. Amazingly, I also shared the room with the adjoining lift shaft so I was able to enjoyed it's meandering journeys up and down taking fellow guests to places they probably didn't want to go. Thankfully I was only staying one night.
“Highly dissatisfied”
I was absolutely appoaled at the service and conditions at this hotel. I was never warned upon checkin that they were doing construction work inside the hotel - restaurant and each and every morning I was woken up at 7am by the sounds of drills and grinders which carried on all day each day! Upon calling reception asn querying the situation I was told thgat they were within regulations to start at 7am and showed no simpathy or inclination to help whatsoever! I was told by someone that apparently since the Devere hotel was taken ove rmy Chinese its regressed into what it currently is!
“SKnight”
I was shocked and dissapointed to find on my arrival that there was a huge amount of building work going on in the ground floor of the hotel building. The Indian restaurant connected ot the hotel is being re-fitted and I was woken up at 7am both mornings with drilling, banging and shouting. The staff were unhelpful and unconcerned by the disturbance. I find it amazing that they wouldn't have insisted the contractors don't start until 9am to ensure guests can rest after 24hr flights. It was awful and I checked out immediately. Do not stay here for the time being at least.
“comfortable, clean and convenient”
For an inexpensive hotel close to all amenities we thought it was good value. This was our third stay and we were still satisfied. It is close to the bus stop and has many resturants around it. It is a little old and jaded, but nonetheless worth a stay if you are content with 3 star accom.
“Comfortable and very convenient.”
Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only problem was that there was a lot of traffic noise late evening and early morning. Perhaps a room on the eastern side of the building would have been quieter.
“Too many stairs!”
Ok 3 star Hotel....Flight of stairs down to lobby....big pain for wheeled bags, then two elevators separated by one or two half flights of stairs (dpending on which one you head for.....big pain in the butt! Room was clean, but dated and I had a view of a utilities shaft...I guess you get what u pay for....lots of noise from a resturant reno...they started at like 7 am drilling ino concrete.
“Good price and good location”
This hotel was in a good location. I could walk to the Botanical Gardens, Opera House, and Circular Bay. There was also a bus stop across the street and the train nearby as well. I took two tours which picked me up right from the hotel. The hotel is a bit old but for the price and location it was great.
“"Okay, but..."”
Our small/quite compact 3rd floor VIEWLESS room (the one window did 'look out' upon an unattractive building wall) unfortunately also backed the single hotel lift so we heard the passage of all lift journeys. However, because we were usually out during our two day stay, we adapted to this undesired disturbance. Both the front desk and maid service were quite satisfactory. Kings Cross Station is within walking distance, but clser bus #311 required pre-paid tickets which inconvienced us until we permanently changed to train service, making any necessary line changes. Our next Sydney visit we'll opt for a more expensive (but more central) hotel in the Rocks/Circular Quay area which was so much more central to our wanted activities. The hotel helped us with our airport shuttle, calling several times to guarantee our prepaid departure pickup. The hotel lobby was cozy and attractive. Only while waiting for the shuttle did we discover the common hotel restrooms and dining room on the 5th floor. Unfortunately, the adjacent Indian restaurant had already closed down so we had to venture further out our first night but then also returned quite tired. The small kitchenette provided evening & morning coffee and room service brought requested ice. Given expensive hotel prices in Sydney, we were NOT that dissatisfied with the DeVere and would conditionally recommend it to others. We sensed that some clientel were very satisfied repeat customers looking for good value @ DeVere.
