“Excellent example of value.”
Provided me with everything and more than I expected or the cost. I dont know where some of the other people who wrote (negative) reviews on this hotel stayed. It certainly wasn't the same place that I did. I will be regularly flying into Gatwick over the next year and Im sure will stay at this hotel again.
“Menzies Chequers. Handy for Gatwick Airport.”
Hotel was ok and functional. Food was not very brilliant. All felt like reheat from freezer. But hey, I wasn't there for a gourmet experience! Overall it was a handy stop over before a very early plane from Gatwick. Px
“Great room pub grub not great”
Room and staff great the only put off was the pub food at the front of the hotel was really poor
“I can't believe it has 4 stars!”
Stayed for 2 nights. Lokked nice initially, then had to battle through reception after the receptionist denied that our booking existed. My roomwas adequately sized but was a furnace. It was November and the heating was off, but I felt like Martin Sheen in the opening scene of Apocalypse Now at 4am. Couldn't open the window as it was right by the car park. Pillows were solid foam blocks. The attached "pub" reeked of something very sweet and sickly, we couldn't cope with the smell and ran out with breath held. Nearby Horley had a good pub and curry house. Breakfast (£10) was appalling. 2 nights no sleep.....
“Close to the airport”
The hotel is only ten minutes from the airport, £6 for a taxi to the airport. I had dinner in the hotel pub reasonably priced and a varied selection.

Very close to Gatwick, clean and modern, with helpful staff.
“Thoroughly recommend”
We stayed at Chequers overnight before our flight from Gatwick. About 3 miles from the airport, taxi was booked both ways and was very efficient cost £6.50. Overall we were extremely satisfied. The only problem I had was with the noise from residents leaving in the early hours, none were roudy and it didn't help that we were in the first room after the reception so I suppose this was to be expected, apart from that 10/10
“Great small hotel”
Great choice of small hotel at a great price. The only inconvenience is the taxi from Gatwick who charged 10 pounds while the taxi from teh hotel was 6 pounds. Notwithstanding it was a nice comfortable stay
“Far from Gatwick Airport”
This hotel is perfectly fine if you have a car, but if you need to rely on public transportation or a taxi cab, as I did, it's more of a pain than it is worth. If you are flying out of Gatwick and just want a room for the night, choose a hotel nearer the airport. This one is a 15-minute drive away, and trying to coordinate the taxi ride was exhausting for me, because my U.S. cell phone didn't work in England. Thank you to those Brits who lent me their cell phones along the way so I could order a cab!
“Basic Hotel, think Faulty Towers”
We arrived at the hotel and checked into our room, which went ok. The room that we were given, there was no hot water,so we were moved to another room. Whilst downstairs at reception I overheard the problem of another guest, that had locked themselves in the bathroom (Basil to the resue). Don't eat at he hotel as the food choice is very limited and very basic. Most of the menu is either fried or heated / cooked in a microwave. Unfortunatley if you don't have a car, you don't have a choice as there is nothing else close by. The beer that I wanted in the bar was not availabele on tap as they had run out. We stayed at this hotel, as it was close to Gatwick but I am sure there are better places than this to stay. Would we stay her again, NO.
